As a Volunteer Welcomer at GARAS (Gloucestershire Action for Refugees and Asylum Seekers), you will play a key role in ensuring the smooth and welcoming environment for clients, staff, and visitors. You will be involved in various administrative, organisational, and practical tasks that directly support GARAS' services for refugees and asylum seekers. You will welcome each client, providing tea/coffee, and ascertain which staff member clients need to see. The waiting room is often busy, so Welcomers keep the waiting list in order, managing the flow of clients and liaising with advisors. At PAS we believe that everyone has the right to be treated fairly, properly and with respect. Prisoners can be ‘ out of sight, out of mind’, or considered to not be as deserving of good treatment as other people – but not for PAS; our reason for existing is ensuring that prisoners can fully exercise their rights.

It is my privilege to be Chair of Trustees for PAS, I believe that the work we do is fundamental to my belief that we judge our society by the way in which we treat the most vulnerable people. Contrary to popular culture, prisoners are some of the most vulnerable, neglected people in our society, and I am proud to be a part of an organisation that helps to protect them.

My fellow trustees are an impressive group of people, actively engaged with PAS, who energise me whenever I meet with them. However, our numbers have dwindled over the past year, as it can been difficult for people to fit in the demands of being a trustee around their busy lives. We also very sadly lost one of our most long-standing trustees to cancer – he is still sorely missed by us.

If you feel that you could offer your skills and experience, but most importantly your commitment and enthusiasm to our cause, we would be very interested in considering you joining us as a new Trustee.

As a Trustee, you will contribute to the strategic governance of the organisation and the setting and monitoring of overall policy; refine strategic priorities; agree targets and budgets; evaluate organisational performance and help the organisation fundraise.

Meetings take place quarterly in central London in the evening (with some virtual attendance), with additional attendance requested at Awaydays and PAS’s Annual Lecture and debates.

PAS does not accept Home Office or Prison Service money as this may affect its independence.

Children Change Colombia (CCC) is seeking a finance and investment trustee based in the UK and/or in Colombia to join our dynamic team that operates in the UK and Colombia.

Children Change Colombia is the UK’s largest charity with more than 30 years experience working exclusively in Colombia. We believe that, with the appropriate support, Colombian children can claim their right to live safely and in peace and demand that the adults responsible for protecting their rights do so – in this way, children can change Colombia. Over the last three decades, CCC has helped more than 65,000 children to overcome the trauma of poverty, armed conflict, displacement, and the lack of education, and has invested 15 million pounds in more than 50 multiannual projects all across the country.

We seek to complement the work of others and avoid duplication whenever possible. One of our key aims is to work on issues that are neglected by others and bring innovation where opportunities are short. Many of the projects we support are pioneering services for children in areas where such services do not already exist. For instance, we work in schools in remote villages near the Pacific coast where state institutions are weak and few NGOs operate. In cases where other organisations do operate services for children, we collaborate with our partners to help them identify these organisations and then determine how they can work to complement and improve existing services.

The finance and investment trustee will be part of the Board of Trustees and support the Fundraising efforts, contribute to the overall governance and strategic direction of the charity, with a particular focus on the effective stewardship of new strategies for funding such an endowment. This includes ensuring new sources of charitable income are managed in accordance with legal and ethical standards, aligned with the charity’s long-term mission, and capable of delivering sustainable income for future generations. 

Reports to: Chair of the Board of Trustees

Their main duties and responsibilities include:

• Fulfil all legal duties of a charity trustee as defined by the Charity Commission and the Charities Act 2011.

• Oversee the establishment and ongoing management of the funds in line with the charity’s objectives and governing documents.

• Work with fellow trustees and senior staff to develop and approve the investment policy statement and spending policy for all sources of income.

• Monitor investment performance and ensure all funds are managed by appropriately qualified fund managers.

• Ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, and ethical standards relating to investments, including responsible investment principles if adopted.

• Participate in the finance subcommittee and other investments subcommittee that may be created.

• Contribute to risk management relating to the new sources of income, including market volatility and inflationary pressures.

Board members are legally responsible for the organisation and for supporting effective management of its resources. In particular, the responsibilities of a Member of the Board of

Trustees are as follows:

• Direct the affairs of CCC, ensuring that it is solvent, well-run, and delivering the charitable objects for which it has been set up, as a joint responsibility with the other board members.

• Ensure that CCC complies with charity law, and with the requirements of the Charity Commission as regulator, as a joint responsibility with the other board members

• Ensure that CCC does not breach any of the requirements or rules set out in its governing document and that it remains true to its charitable purpose, as a joint responsibility with the other board members

• Provide informed opinion and advice to board and staff on all issues relating to the functioning of the charity including programmes, fundraising, finance, and administration, where appropriate

• Attend quarterly board meetings, at CCC’s office in central London or online and to read and comment on associated documentation

• Participate in ad hoc meetings and sub-groups as requested by the Chair of the Board, according to your particular field of expertise. Reading and commenting on associated documentation as necessary.

• Being an Ambassador for the organisation at external events as required and increase the profile of the organization.

What is an Inventory volunteer?

The RAF Museum has many items in its collection which are not currently on display. Our inventory volunteers will ensure that we have an up-to-date record of all the items in our reserve collection, their purpose and condition, to help us prepare to move from our current store outside Stafford to a new storage facility in Cosford. This is a weekday only opportunity.

This role sits within the RAF Museum’s Midlands Development Programme which will transform our museum and our impact on the local community through a series of phased projects – engaging audiences who may not obviously identify with the RAF story by finding common interests and histories which link them. As part of this project, we are planning a new learning centre, outdoor spaces, collections hub and major exhibition.

What will I be doing?

The Inventory Volunteer role could encompass various tasks, which might include:

· Assessing objects’ condition

· Measuring and weighing items

· Undertaking cleaning as required

· Object photography

FoBV is seeking four new Trustees to serve on the Board of Trustees of the Friends of Bennerley Viaduct (FoBV) at a very exciting time in the life of this organisation.

About us:

Bennerley Viaduct, known locally as the ‘Iron Giant’, is one of only two wrought iron railway viaducts remaining in the UK. It was built in 1877 by the Great Northern Railway Company but was closed to rail traffic in 1968. It is now a Grade II* monument, beloved in the area.

Saved from demolition following a public enquiry in 1980 the Bennerley Viaduct stood dormant for 40 years until 2020. In 2020 FoBV was formed as a CIO to bring together the community that was interested in this structure and its surrounding environment. FoBV have since worked in partnership with the owners of the viaduct, Railway Paths Limited (RPL), and funders to restore the viaduct for public access and bring it to life with a programme of activities.

FoBV now lease the viaduct from RPL and has successfully attracted funding for the restoration of the viaduct and activity programmes from NHLF, Severn Trent Community Fund, World Monuments Fund amongst many others. FoBV has also worked in partnership with Broxtowe Borough Council to secure funding to deliver a new visitor centre, café and accessible ramp for the viaduct as part of the Kimberley Town Bid.

We now need to strengthen the existing Board of Trustees to oversee this next stage of the life of the ‘Iron Giant’ as we complete the new visitor centre and its fully accessible eastern ramp. We are looking for Trustees specifically with skills in Marketing & social media, Fundraising & Grants, Hospitality sector and Learning.

What does it Involve?

As a member of the board of trustees, you’ll be involved in:

· Setting the FoBV’s strategic direction, setting goals/targets and monitoring progress

· Ensuring the effective and efficient administration and financial stability of FoBV and its assets

· Joining a sub-committee or working group of the board based on your skills and experience and contribute to delivering identified priorities

· Ensuring FoBV complies with its constitution, charity law, and other relevant legislation or regulations

· Contributing to the appointment, support and monitoring of staff and volunteers

Nabweru Community Initiative for Youth Empowerment

We empower youth in Uganda through entrepreneurship, child advocacy, HIV/AIDS awareness, climate action, sports, culture, and capacity building.

While NCIYE promotes good agricultural practices and empowers youth in farming, there is a significant challenge in providing adequate resources, training, and tools for youth to fully implement sustainable and effective farming methods. Many youth lack access to modern farming technology and knowledge about advanced agricultural practices that could help them increase productivity and improve income. Health Awareness and Accessibility:

Despite efforts to combat HIV/AIDS, COVID-19, and other diseases through community sensitization, many youth still face barriers in accessing reliable healthcare services and preventive resources. The ongoing stigma surrounding diseases like HIV/AIDS and limited access to treatment continue to hinder the effectiveness of awareness campaigns. Limited Opportunities for Youth Engagement in Sports and Culture:

Although sports competitions and environmental conservation activities are part of NCIYE’s current offerings, the organization faces challenges in scaling up these programs. The lack of adequate facilities, funding, and structured opportunities for youth to engage in sports and culture means that these initiatives do not reach their full potential for personal and community development. Barriers to Youth Entrepreneurship:

NCIYE strives to provide entrepreneurial skills to youth, but the challenge remains in connecting these young entrepreneurs with the resources they need to start and grow successful businesses. Issues such as limited access to capital, markets, and mentorship programs hinder the ability of youth to translate entrepreneurial training into successful ventures.

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) affects 1 in 10 women globally, yet it remains one of the most under-diagnosed and misunderstood hormonal disorders. Our startup addresses the social and healthcare inequality faced by individuals with PCOS, who often experience delayed diagnosis, misinformation, and a lack of holistic support. Many face chronic physical and emotional challenges—ranging from irregular periods and infertility to anxiety, depression, and body image issues.

Socially, PCOS is stigmatised and frequently dismissed, especially in low-resource settings, where access to specialised care is limited and digital health education is minimal. Environmental challenges also arise from a lack of culturally sensitive, inclusive, and personalised resources for managing lifestyle and medical interventions.

We aim to close these gaps by providing accessible, evidence-based tools and community support to help individuals manage PCOS proactively—supporting not just physical health, but also mental well-being, self-advocacy, and long-term empowerment.

It’s an exciting time for the Employers' Initiative on Domestic Abuse: momentum is growing, with heightened public awareness of domestic abuse following the pandemic, increased government focus, and employers increasingly recognising their crucial role in enabling employees to recognise the signs of, and seek support on, domestic abuse.

The Employers’ Initiative on Domestic Abuse (known as EIDA) is committed to equality, diversity and inclusion in our mission to empower employers to act effectively against domestic abuse. 

Our aim is to ensure that all team members, volunteers, trustees, job applicants and the people we come into contact with are given equal opportunity and that our organisation is representative of all sections of society.

• Approve operational strategies and policies and monitor and evaluate their implementation.
• Oversee EIDA’s financial plans and budgets and monitor and evaluate progress.
• Ensure the effective and efficient administration of the organisation.
• Ensure that key risks are being identified, monitored and controlled effectively.
• Review and approve EIDA’s financial statements.
• Provide support and challenge to EIDA’s CEO.
• Keep abreast of changes in EIDA’s operating environment.
• Use independent judgment, acting legally and in good faith to promote and protect EIDA’s interests, to the exclusion of their own personal and/or any third-party interests.
• Participate in periodic appraisals of the performance of the Board of Trustees, collectively and individually.
• Represent EIDA at external functions, meetings and events.

• Experience in leading teams, managing people, or influencing organisational culture.

Terms of appointment

Position: Trustee

Location: This is a hybrid role, with occasional travel required to Board and network meetings held in central London

Terms: A maximum fixed term appointment of one three-year term followed by a further three-year term

This is a voluntary position, but reasonable expenses are reimbursed.

Time commitment: EIDA’s Board of Trustees meets 4-5 times a year within the working hours of 10-5pm.  Currently meetings are held in London and remotely (Zoom).

The University of Northampton is seeking a new member of its Audit and Risk Committee.

Committee members add valued additional expertise and perspective to support the work of a Board committee, without becoming members of the Board. This can be a great way to get experience and connect with the University with less of a time commitment. Joining a committee does not preclude applying for Board membership in future.   

The Audit and Risk Committee is responsible to the Board of Governors for supporting the Board’s role in risk management, control and governance and for the advising on the probity of the University’s financial statements and the economic, efficient and effective operation of the University.

As a member of the Audit and Risk Committee, you will be at the forefront of the development of the University, overseeing its strategy, direction and long-term future.  You will build professional networks, collaborate with governors and staff, and build your own professional experience, profile and impact. This may include building new skills which will boost your professional expertise.  You will bring skills or experience in at least one of the areas in the Committee’s remit. These are financial management, reporting and planning, accountancy, internal or external audit, risk management, health and safety and legal compliance.

You will work as part of a strong and supportive team of your fellow governors, committee members, and members of staff. In return your skills, experience and broader perspective help the University to ensure that it continues to fulfil its mission.
