Job description

The monthly, evening autism support group is open to parents, carers and family members of autistic children and adults, autistic adults and professionals who work with autistic people, to meet to exchange experiences, skills and understanding. Guest speakers are occasionally invited.

It meets from 7.30pm with an opportunity to chat to other members, take refreshments and browse the branch information stand and library. The meeting itself, whether a discussion evening or a speaker presentation, will start by 8.00pm. The evening closes at 9.30pm.

The volunteer Autism Support Group Leader will be responsible for the co-ordination and running of the NAS South Hampshire Branch’s autism support group which takes place monthly on a Monday evening.

What you will be doing

  • Planning sessions, booking guest speakers and co-ordinating the other volunteers
  • Interacting with those attending, making sure that everyone can engage in the activities in a safe manner.
  • Facilitating discussions ensuring all those who wish to speak have the opportunity and that discussions stay on track
  • Organising the setting up and clearing away before and after each meeting.
  • Keeping the Branch Chair informed of the group’s activities and attending branch committee meetings
  • Ensuring your branch complies with NAS policies including risk assessment, data protection and safeguarding.
  • Any agreed expenses incurred will be reimbursed by the branch.
  • You will be supported in your role by the Branch Chair.
  • You will have access to a dedicated NAS email address for this role
  • A criminal record check is a requirement of the role
