Through PathFinder Organisation CIC (InStudents' spinout), we support international students navigating life in the UK, from pre-arrival all the way through to post-graduation. We are a small, mission-driven team of volunteers working to make sure every international student feels prepared, supported, and set up to thrive.

We are looking for a People & HR Volunteer to help us build and maintain the processes that keep our volunteer community running smoothly. This is a great opportunity for someone with some HR experience, or who is studying or training in HR, to apply their skills in a real-world social impact setting, with the guidance of a more experienced people professional already on the team.

Accountabilities

• Volunteer Onboarding: Support the delivery of a consistent, welcoming onboarding experience for new volunteers joining PathFinder
• Exit & Offboarding: Help maintain a proper volunteer exit process, including records of achievement and handover notes
• HR Compliance: Assist with keeping our documentation up to date, including volunteer agreements and risk management forms
• Volunteer Database: Help rebuild and maintain our volunteer records so nothing falls through the cracks
• Learning & Development: Grow your HR skills in a supported environment, with mentorship from a senior HR professional on the team
• People Operations: Support leadership on day-to-day people decisions and volunteer welfare

Your Impact
Our volunteers are the backbone of PathFinder. By helping us get our people processes right, you will directly contribute to a better experience for every volunteer who joins us, and ultimately for the international students we exist to support. This role gives you hands-on HR experience in the charity sector, with real responsibility and real impact.

Use your skills and develop news ones as you support Samaritans as they grow their Stream for Samaritans community of content creators.

As a Community Support Volunteer - Stream for Samaritans, you’ll be helping to research and engage with new creators utilising a range of skills from social media to community management to help Samaritans towards their vision that fewer people should die by suicide.

What is the role?

The Community Support Volunteer - Stream for Samaritans will work closely with the Events Fundraising Manager Gaming and Streaming to help increase the reach of the team in the online creator space so Samaritans can raise more funds to help those with suicidal thoughts get help when they need it the most.

You will be a vital part of the team, using your skills and network to find new creators to engage with, carrying out research and safeguarding checks and becoming a key point of contact for those wanting to learn more about this exciting area of fundraising. You’ll also help to set the tone for our Discord community by posting regularly, moderating and being part of conversations to inspire our supporters to get more involved with fundraising for Samaritans.

This role will give you the opportunity to:

• Use your passion and enthusiasm for all things content creation to help Samaritans towards their vision that fewer people should die by suicide
• Use your engagement and communication skills to support Samaritans in the expansion and development of our content creator fundraising events
• Learn new skills and meet new people both virtually and in person
• Gain experience of community management and work in the charity sector as part of a busy events team at a large UK charity
• Learn more about content creator led fundraising, event planning and project management
• Attend a variety of industry events throughout the year
• You’ll be helping to support Samaritans and their work to help those who are struggling to cope for any reason

Qualities and experience

• Enthusiasm and passion for streaming and content creation
• Good understanding and knowledge of Discord, Twitch, YouTube and other platforms
• Personable, approachable and able to develop relationships with a wide range of individuals

Key responsibilities

• Outreach and engage with creators to build relationships and promote fundraising events
• Support with event planning and researching trends and opportunities in the sector
• Create social media posts for our Discord Server

Time commitment

The role is incredibly flexible and any support you can provide would be appreciated - equivalent of one day per fortnight would be ideal. This time can be spread across multiple days however suits you best.

We will make sure you will have access to a proper induction to volunteering with SJA and the training you need for the role you take on. We have an elderly client in Luton, LU1 who would like someone to visit her at home once a week, or perhaps fortnighly with a phone call in between visits. She moved to Luton from Scotland many years ago and spends most of her days alone at home which understandably gets her down.  She has a supportive daughter who works full time and a friend who drops by when she can. 

As her befriender, you will provide companionship: friendly conversation and a non-judgemental listen ear, to help make her day a little brighter. Your gift of time, and your companionship will help to break the monotomy of sitting alone at home and will give her something to look forward to. Meetings will be in her flat, or in the communal garden when the weather allows. 

You need to be reliable, friendly and caring,English speaking and a good listener for easy conversations.  You should also be able to commit to befriending for at least 6 months.  Its worth noting that most of our volunteers stay involved for longer, only because they enjoy what they do. 

Befriending is a very easy way to help someone who is struggling and can be very rewarding, in fact you might both look forward to your meetings and calls. It can also provide a great opportunity to gain practical experience of working with older adults in the community for anyone who is considering working in this field. 

We provide training before you start and ongoing support once you are matched, we also reimburse expenses for travel and refreshments. Two references are required and an enhanced DBS check will be processed.

Online Sales Volunteer responsibilities

• Researching and listing the items for sale in our dedicated Vinted store.
• A picture is worth 1,000 words so ensuring that attractive photographs are taken to boost sales.
• Packaging items appropriately before posting them to the buyer.

In preparation for our International Biodiversity Arts Exhibtion, we are seeking volunteer support from a reliable and trustworthy person who wishes to gain experience working for an environmental arts social enterprise. 

This is a remote role for a UK based person who is able to populate application information from spreadsheets into our online gallery inventory within a programme called Kunstmatrix.

The volunteer will also be able to prepare word documents of name and artwork labels to feature in our physical gallery.

The work required should take the volunteer between 5 - 15 hours, depending upon how quickly they can work. Prior to starting work, the volunteer will be able to meet for a video call at a time convenient to them and Insecta Collective director Elizabeth.

The work can be undertaken at any time of day, on any day of the week, providing it is completed within the specified deadline given when the volunteer meeting takes place.

In return for volunteer hours, the volunteer can enter their artwork into our open call exhibition for free. They will also recieve a certificate for their time and dedication.

In this role, you will review case content for medical accuracy, clarity, realism, and educational value. You will check whether the history, physical examination findings, investigations, diagnosis, and management steps are logical, guideline-aligned, and appropriate for the learner level. Validators will also help identify unclear wording, duplicated questions, incorrect classifications, missing key steps, and any details that could confuse students. Your feedback will directly improve the quality of our medical simulations and help ensure that each case provides a safe, realistic, and high-value learning experience. This role is ideal for medical students who enjoy clinical reasoning, medical education, and reviewing cases in detail.
