Marketing and Communications Volunteer

Global Health Access Trust is looking for a Governance & Charity Administration Volunteer to help strengthen the records, policies and administrative foundations of an international charitable organisation working towards registration.

This opportunity would suit someone with governance, legal, charity administration or senior administrative experience who enjoys bringing order, accuracy and follow-through to important organisational work.

Global Health Access Trust (GHAT) develops, funds and coordinates defined projects that advance health, relieve illness and preserve life for the public benefit. Good governance, safeguarding, accountability and responsible stewardship sit at the centre of how that work is developed and delivered.

OOEF is a small, fast-growing charity and we need people to help us run it well. You can do this on-site with us — in which case you will the magic in action — or remotely, or a mixture of both. About the role

Orchestra of Everything Foundation (OOEF) delivers free, immersive music education to around 250 children aged 7–11 at two Bath primary schools in Twerton and Whiteway — nationally ranked deprived communities. Our impact is off the scale: school leaders tell us that 86% of children show improved attitudes to learning across all subjects, and we have been instrumental in a 39% reduction in pupil suspensions. Our work has caught the attention of the Department for Education, and Bath Spa University now incorporates our model into teacher training.

As an Operations & Admin Volunteer you might focus on one area or help across several, depending on your skills and availability: volunteer scheduling, communications, grant applications, impact reporting, events and partnerships. This role can be shaped entirely around you. If you want to be on-site — watching sessions, being part of the team, seeing the impact first-hand — we would love that. Volunteers who come in consistently tell us it is the most motivating thing about the work. But if remote or flexible working suits you better, that works too.

Time commitment

The time commitment is flexible and entirely negotiable — from a couple of hours per month to something more regular. Some volunteers come via employer volunteering schemes on a rota (companies and organisations are very welcome); others commit as individuals on an ad hoc basis; others come as students fitting volunteering around their studies. We will shape the arrangement entirely around your availability.

What we need from you

This is a really flexible role, you can choose what you’d like to get involved with, for example: 

• face-to-face fundraising. Organising or helping with fundraising events, running supermarket collections and fundraising stands, monitoring collection tins 
• online fundraising. Setting up online appeals and writing impactful cat case studies that maximise donations
• marketing. Spreading the word about our fundraising activities, for example on social media and with the local press  
• completing administration. Processing donations, sorting and recording donated goods, completing Gift Aid paperwork
• championing our work. Getting involved with developing new fundraising ideas and increasing community engagement

Role Summary

We are seeking dedicated and compassionate Volunteers to join our new drop in group in South Oxford that take place at 10 am to noon on the 2nd and 4th Friday of the month. This role is ideal for individuals looking to make a meaningful impact in the community while gaining valuable experience.

The Say Aphasia charity provides support groups across the UK for people with aphasia; a language and communication disability caused by a brain injury like a stroke. Aphasia affects over 350,000 people in the UK but is little understood or known about by the public. It is the only aphasia charity set up by people with aphasia for people with aphasia; helping them to adapt to their new way of life and regain their independence and confidence.

Aphasia occurs due to injury to the brain such as a stroke. It affects access to language, resulting in difficulties following conversations, speaking, reading and writing.

Volunteers will support the running of the group with communicating, and will have the opportunity to utilise their communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide companionship and support to individuals, particularly those living with asphasia.
• Assist in organising activities that promote social interaction and engagement.
• Communicate effectively with participants, ensuring their needs are understood and met.
• Help maintain a safe and welcoming environment for all participants.
• Collaborate with other volunteers to enhance the group.

Qualifications

• An understanding or knowledge in aphasia is desirable.
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse groups.
• Proficiency in IT, including familiarity with common software applications.

• Accurately following and implementing our risk management procedures for activities and services provided by the group

We are supported by an incredible team of prison volunteers who are the link between the charity and the stitchers we work with in prison. Our volunteers run fortnightly stitching groups in the prisons we work with to facilitate our stitchers’ production of high-quality needlework.

Our prison volunteers work in small teams to teach our stitchers’ embroidery and needlepoint, organise their group sessions, and liaise with the prison and FCW office.

What you will do as a prison volunteer:

• Teach people in prison how to stitch and support the completion of our premade kits in our cell groups, which consist of around 10-15 stitchers.
• Communicate with staff at our hub in Battersea to receive kits and supplies for your group and send back completed work for your stitchers to be paid.
• Encourage and help stitchers to complete our Open College Network certifications in creative needlework.
• Develop stitchers’ skills and confidence by encouraging them to take responsibility as peer mentors.
• Act as an ambassador for the charity and sharing our vision and values throughout your volunteering.

Who we are looking for:

• Skills in embroidery and/or needlepoint or a willingness to learn to stitch is essential for this role.
• Ideally some teaching experience or experience working with socially-excluded groups.
• Someone with a non-judgemental attitude and commitment to rehabilitation.
• Someone who is an excellent team worker.
• Someone who is good at observing personal boundaries.

Commitment: our stitching groups run for 2 hours every fortnight, so with travel time and some admin work after groups we ask prison volunteers to set aside a morning or afternoon every 2 weeks.

Would you like to support disabled children in accessing fun activity sessions? Could you provide admin support in the office to help facilitate sessions for our Children’s Activity Club team.

What will you be doing?

• Supporting the Childrens Activity Club managed with a range of administration tasks

. • Helping with data entry tasks, such as updating our in-house database with registers, session attendance, feedback, and uploading support plans.

• Telephoning parents to go through initial risk assessments/ supports plans on how best we can support their child at a session understanding their communication, sensory and support needs.

• Helping to research required resources for sessions.

What skills would be useful?

• A good level of computer literacy

• A good eye for detail

• Confident using a telephone

• Previous experience with data entry tasks

• Previous experience supporting SEN children
