Our transport volunteers provide vital assistance to our teams and volunteer groups in the local area by transporting equipment, litter, food – and even cats! Our fundraising team leaders support their team of volunteers in all aspects of their roles, making sure our volunteers are happy, confident and supported.

We have branches across the UK, all of which help our cats in different ways. Branches take in stray and abandoned cats and ensure they receive the veterinary care and attention they deserve; help raise funds, promote neutering and help spread cat welfare messages. Our branch team leader volunteers lead their local team by supporting and managing volunteers within their group, maintaining communications with both volunteers and employees, and helping promote a positive and professional image of Cats Protection.

What we need from you

You’ll be:

• Supporting your team of volunteers in all aspects of their roles, making sure volunteers are happy and confident
• Making sure the team observes charity best practice and compliance
• Collaborating with your Branch Development Manager (BDM) to plan volunteer activity
• Leading the team to follow Cats Protection policies, procedures and guidelines
• Monitoring expenditure and helping ensure long term financial stability of the volunteer group
• Organising and chairing team meetings
• Acting as an ambassador for Cats Protection

Time expectation

Our branch team leader volunteers usually spend 10 to 15 hours per week in this role, which is flexible and can be shared by more than one volunteer if needed. There will be times of year when more hours are required, such as towards the end of the financial year, but support and guidance are available.

• Providing potential adopters with basic cat care information
• Completing homing questionnaires with potential adopters ‘virtually’, as well as face to face, which may involve visiting the homes of potential adopters
• Carrying out follow up communications if required
• Using online map searches to match cats and kittens to new homes

Time expectation

Our cat match volunteers usually spend 2 to 3 hours a week in this role which is flexible and can be shared by more than one volunteer if needed.

Make a difference to the lives of rescue cats! We have a number of roles within our cat rescue based in York. 

Home visitors

Join our fantastic volunteer team to help us improve the welfare & quality of life for the cats & kittens in our care.

Our home visit volunteers help us to assess each home environment and a families circumstances to ensure our cats are suitably matched to their new family. This is a vital step in our rehoming process to ensure our cats get the happy ending they deserve.

You can dedicate as much or as little of your free time to this role- picking up outstanding home visits as and when you can.

This role can also be done remotely (from home) if necessary or preferred.

We rely on our fantastic team of dedicated volunteers to continue our work and would love for you to join us.

Fundraising

We are looking for cat loving people with a little free time and lots of ideas to join our fundraising team!
 

This role includes all aspects of fundraising including organising and taking charge of ideas/ events with the support of the wider team and helping out at events. 

We need your help to raise much needed funds to support the work that we do and help give cats and kittens in need a better future. 

Fostering

Join our fantastic volunteer team to help us improve the welfare and quality of life of cats & kittens in our care.

• Do you love cats but unable to commit to one of your own?

• Do you live approx 40 min radius of York?

• If you have pets, do you have a spare room to foster cats/ kittens in need?

• Do you have access to a vehicle?
   

We are looking for people to join our wonderful supportive team of foster carers! 

Caring for cats/ kittens in your home while they undergo rehabilitation and wait to be adopted doesn't cost you a penny. We provide full training & support along the way.

Transport Volunteers

We are always looking for transport volunteers to join our team. This role involves transporting animals, equipment and donations too and from various locations in and around the York area. We may also occasionally need help transporting cats and equipment from further afield. 

As a Visitor Centre Welcome Volunteer, you will help create a positive and memorable experience for visitors coming to WWT Caerlaverock. By providing excellent customer service and encouraging visitor engagement, you'll support WWT's conservation work and inspire people to connect with wetlands and the wildlife they protect. 

This is a great opportunity to meet a wide variety of people, build confidence and customer service skills, and become part of a friendly and supportive team. You'll learn about wildlife and conservation, gain experience using a till system, and help visitors enjoy a fantastic day out in a beautiful wetland environment.

Volunteers are an essential part of the WWT team, and we wouldn’t be able to maintain our internationally important wetland sites without their help. You will receive a very warm welcome, full induction & training, and be provided with the necessary equipment, uniform, and anything else needed to thrive in your role.

We are particularly looking for volunteers who are available to help out one day a week on Thursdays, Fridays, or Saturdays. This role is not suitable for people under 18 years.

Overview 

Are you a vegan wildlife enthusiast who wants to make a difference and protect UK Wildlife? Why not volunteer on our small, friendly team and create educational online content?

This remote, flexible, part-time (5 hrs/wk) role is ideal for someone passionate about UK wildlife, animal wellbeing, and ethical conservation.
 

Summary of the Role

• Create 1 social media post a week using Canva Pro.

• Your posts will focus solely on UK wildlife issues. Eg: hunting, shooting, human-animal conflict, roadkill.

• Research resources with appropriate copyright licenses (copyright training given).

• Critically analyse information to create challenging responses to the status quo and campaign for UK wildlife rights.

• Write persuasive captions to accompany your post.

• Submit your post to a feedback and edit process before publication.

• File your published post in our folder system.

We need more fosterers like you to provide a safe, temporary haven for cats and kittens and provide them with everything they need before they get their chance to land on their four paws and make a house a home.

Managing a large wetland reserve requires a lot of practical, hands-on, physical tasks. We are looking for new volunteers to join our weekly Thursday Habitat Management group, supporting reserve habitat management across our beautiful 103-acre site at WWT Washington. You will be working outdoors alongside a team of 3 wardens and in a group of up to 10 fellow volunteers.

Our Reserve Volunteers assist the reserve team in completing big jobs across the reserve, including annual meadow cuts, tree planting plans, and installation of new features such as ponds and hides. You will also be helping to maintain and restore various habitats – supporting one of the largest inland Curlew roosts in the UK and providing foraging and breeding habitat for our population of red-listed Willow Tits.

This is a fantastic opportunity to get out in the fresh air and become involved in practical nature conservation, meet new like-minded people, and make a difference by helping to maintain our important wetlands.

Volunteers are an essential part of the WWT team, and we wouldn’t be able to maintain our internationally important wetland sites without their help. You will receive a very warm welcome, full induction & training, and be provided with any necessary equipment, uniforms, and anything else needed to thrive in your role.
