Commitment: 5-7 hours a week

Watford & Three Rivers Refugee Partnership is dedicated to supporting refugees and asylum seekers by providing immigration services, advocacy, a social hub and ESOL classes. As  Communication Volunteers, you will play a key role in sharing the stories of refugees and asylum seekers, raising awareness about their challenges, and promoting the charity’s mission. As part of a team you will develop and implement communication strategies to engage supporters, attract donors, and build partnerships. This role involves managing social media, creating compelling content, and ensuring consistent messaging across all platforms.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop engaging content for social media (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Tiktok), newsletters, blogs, and website updates whilst monitoring engagement and responding to comments.
• Write press releases, articles, and promotional materials to raise awareness.
• Develop partnerships with influencers, community groups, media outlets and other charities and organisations.
• Support campaigns that promote refugee rights, integration, and policy change.
• Help develop communication guidelines that ensure respectful and ethical storytelling.
• Assist in volunteer and donor engagement through impactful messaging.
• Provide updates on the charity’s work through reports, newsletters, and event promotions.

Skills & Experience

• Passion for refugee rights, humanitarian work, or social justice.
• desirable to have experience in communications, marketing, journalism, or a related field (volunteer or professional).
• Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills, with sensitivity to refugee experiences.
• Familiarity with social media platforms and content creation tools (e.g., Canva, Hootsuite, Mailchimp).
• Basic graphic design or video editing skills (preferred but not required).
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

What you will be doing

• Undertaking shop related tasks agreed with the Manager, for example:
• Chatting to customers, giving great service on the till.
• Selecting, sorting, and pricing donated stock.
• Visual merchandising: creating eye-catching window and in-store displays.
• Accepting donations from members of the public, speaking to the donors and asking them a few questions..
• Following clear instructions to label donations in order to maximise income.
• This role may include occasionally lifting boxes. We prioritise a safe working environment and provide comprehensive health and safety training to all volunteers.

Are you passionate about children, stories and writing, Sembeza Africa is looking for a copywriter who is able to

• Write, edit, and continuously improve all website content
• Turn raw program data and field updates into engaging impact stories and impact reports

What we need from you

This is a really flexible role, you can choose what you’d like to get involved with, for example: 

• face-to-face fundraising. Organising or helping with fundraising events, running supermarket collections and fundraising stands, monitoring collection tins 

• online fundraising. Setting up online appeals and writing impactful cat case studies that maximise donations

• marketing. Spreading the word about our fundraising activities, for example on social media and with the local press  

• completing administration. Processing donations, sorting and recording donated goods, completing Gift Aid paperwork

● championing our work. Getting involved with developing new fundraising ideas and increasing community engagement

Time expectation

This is a flexible role that can fit around your other commitments to suit you. You’ll be part of a team raising vital funds while having fun in the process!

We are looking for a creative and reliable volunteer to join our Social Media Team, helping us share our work and increase awareness through engaging content.

This role focuses on creating Reels and social media content using Canva and instagram editor tools using existing charity materials. You don’t need to be an expert, however some experience and knowldege of social media communications is ideal. Guidance will be given as you develop your skills.

Working Style

You’ll be joining a small, friendly and active team. Content is planned in advance, with a relaxed monthly Zoom catch-up for planning and ongoing communication via WhatsApp for day-to-day support.

Key Responsibilities

• Create engaging Reels and posts using Canva (Charity account access provided)

• Use existing photos, videos, and content provided by the charity

• Share adoption posts accross facebook and other platforms to help our dogs find homes

• Help maintain consistency across our channels

• Use Google Drive to access and organise content

Skills & Experience

• Some experience with Canva (basic level is fine)

• Familiarity with social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook)

• Comfortable using (or quick to learn) Google Drive

• Creative eye for simple, engaging content

• Good organisation and ability to work independently is essential
