At RSPCA Buckinghamshire South Branch, our charity shops are looking for friendly, local volunteers to join our team and help make our shops in Chesham and Burnham a huge success. Make new friends, have fun, and help us help more animals!

As a volunteer Charity Shop Assistant, you would join a small team working with the shop manager and 1-2 other volunteers to help make it a success and raise vital funds for animal welfare.

What You’ll Be Doing:

• Helping customers in the shop find what they need.
• Accepting donations of items and money from the public.
• Processing sales through the till and card machine, including Gift Aid. (Training is provided but if you are not comfortable using the till, please get in touch because we have plenty of other tasks that do not involve the till).
• Sorting through donated items to determine what we can sell.
• Preparing donated items for sale by steaming and hanging items.
• Merchandising stock on the shop floor.
• Creating attractive shop window displays.

What We’re Looking For:

• Friendly, local volunteers who are confident talking to people.
• Retail experience would be ideal but is not necessary as full training will be given.
• We are ideally aiming for someone who is flexible and can offer an ongoing commitment, preferably 8 hours per week.
• Good communication skills and numeracy skills. 
• You will need to be aged 16 or over.

Practical Considerations:

Oxfam Till Volunteers Barnard Castle Shop, 1 Horsemarket, Barnard Castle, County Durham DL12 8LY

We’re seeking friendly, reliable individuals aged 18 or over who want to make a

difference in their community. No prior experience is needed, as we provide

full training. If you’re open to learning, enjoy working with others, and have a

passion for helping people, you’ll fit right in!

You have the time to become a volunteer in your community; you might be

looking for work experience, the opportunity to meet new people, or keep active.

When:

· Monday to Saturday and Sundays – Am/Pm – 4 hours or just even 2 hours we are very flexible.

What you will be doing:

· Chatting to Customers - giving great customer service on the till.

· Operating the Till

· Keeping the shop floor clean and tidy

· Accepting donations from members of the public

· Assisting with stocking the shop floor

· Full Training and support are given for this role – no prior experience necessary.

We’re Mind, the leading mental health charity. We won’t give up until everyone experiencing a mental health problem gets support and respect. About the volunteer role

To provide our volunteers with opportunities to gain a variety of skills and experience, we offer them a range of volunteer roles to choose from, which include:

Key tasks

There is a variety of tasks within the above mentioned roles that our volunteers get involved with, including:

• Welcoming and assisting customers with their purchases, providing them with great customer service and a delightful shopping experience
• Receiving donated items from members of the public
• Sorting, steaming, tagging and preparing donated items for sale
• Creating visually appealing window and in-store displays
• Keeping the shop floor well stocked, clean and coordinated
• Processing sales and serving at the till
• Signing up gift aid donors
• Stock rotation
• Identifying special or valuable items within donated stock

Treasurer Trustee

Join the Board of Blue Smile 

• Board meetings are held 6 times a year, online

• Finance Committee – meetings are held six times a year, online 

• Occasional in-person meetings/events - including strategy review and planning day once per year, in person 

Salary: Voluntary trustee role (reasonable expenses reimbursed)

We are seeking a Treasurer Trustee to join our Board and help ensure the charity remains financially strong, sustainable and able to continue delivering life-changing support to children and young people 

This is an exciting opportunity for a finance professional who wants to use their skills for social impact while contributing to the governance and strategic leadership of a respected local charity. 

About the Role 

As Treasurer Trustee, you will be the Board's lead on financial governance and oversight, working closely with fellow trustees and the Charity Director. The role is strategic rather than operational and focuses on ensuring good financial management, sustainability and compliance. 

You will: 

• Support the Board in understanding and fulfilling its financial responsibilities.

• Chair finance committee meetings. 

• Review management accounts and monitor financial performance.

• Oversee budgeting, reserves and financial planning.

• Help identify and manage financial risks.

• Support the approval of annual accounts and financial reports, including the independent examination. 

• Ensure the charity's resources are used effectively in pursuit of its charitable objectives.

• Contribute to the strategic direction of Blue Smile 

Who We're Looking For 

We would love to hear from you if you have: 

• A professional background in finance, accounting, banking, auditing or financial management.

• Experience of budgeting, financial reporting and financial oversight.

• The ability to communicate financial information clearly to non-financial audiences.

• Strong analytical skills and sound judgement.

• An interest in supporting children's mental health and wellbeing.

• A recognised accountancy qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA or equivalent) and/or previous charity experience would be advantageous, but we welcome applications from individuals with transferable financial expertise.

You will ensure our operational volunteers are safely vetted and that our mentoring spaces remain secure and compliant with UK law.

Key Responsibilities:

• Review, update, and sign off on the charity’s Safeguarding Policy.
• Oversee the processing of Enhanced DBS checks for all incoming volunteers.

Life Coaching & Mental Health Lead

While our Charity Manager handles the operations, we need a qualified professional to be the clinical heart of our delivery. You will oversee the safety and quality of our mentoring programmes, ensuring our volunteer coaches are delivering effective, asset-based support to our participants.

Key Responsibilities:

• Review and sign off on our 6 and 12-Week Growth Curriculum.
• Provide light technical supervision or peer-support check-ins for our volunteer mentors.
• Help assess participant intake forms to ensure our programme is the right fit for their needs.

Trust is our currency, and clear financial governance is vital for our survival. We are looking for a Treasurer to join our founding board. You will oversee our financial health, help us set up our community bank account, and ensure we remain fully compliant as we secure our first local grants.

• Manage the charity's basic bookkeeping and dual-signatory bank account.
• Present simple financial updates at our monthly committee meetings.
• Assist the Charity Manager with budget planning for grant applications (e.g., Ealing Council, National Lottery).
• Prepare the annual financial statement for the committee.

Volunteer Trustees

Volunteer Trustee opportunities

We are seeking to appoint new Trustees to become actively involved in the strategic direction, governance and decision making of the charity.  As a Trustee you will join a dynamic and supportive team committed to making a difference to people affected by cancer.  With a new, incoming Chair, this is an exciting time to join the Board as it works toward shaping the charity’s future.  The role offers the opportunity to make a lasting impact while providing a rewarding and satisfying experience that enables personal development and growth.

The charity is happy to hear from people across the country and in particular anyone with the following experience or expertise.

Healthcare
Medical Practitioners or Allied Health Professionals with recent experience of working with cancer patients/or cancer treatment, ideally within the NHS.

Commercial
The Penny Brohn UK National Centre offers external organisations a unique environment for their own business use which includes daily and residential bookings as well as tenancy agreements.  Due to a successful period of growth in recent years, the charity would welcome the expertise of a Trustee with significant experience in this area who can support the development of this income stream further.

Support for new Trustees
New Trustees are fully supported through a planned induction into the organisation, starting with an introduction to each area of the Charity.

Time commitment
The Trustee Board meet four times in-person each year at the National Centre in Bristol on Fridays, generally between 9am – 4pm.  Trustee representation is also required on one or two online sub-committees, which are held up to four times per year for each committee and Trustees will be appointed to the sub-committees once recruited into post in accordance with their relevant skills and experience.  Attendance is also required for the AGM and an annual Trustee Away Day as well as occasional events or strategic discussions

Attendance at Key Events
As ambassadors for the Charity, the Trustee Board is encouraged to ensure that there is Trustee representation at key events throughout the calendar year such as fundraising, networking and other high-profile events.

Tenure
Trustees are appointed for a three-year term with a maximum appointment of four terms (12 years).

 Expenses
All Trustees are eligible to be reimbursed for expenses incurred whilst on Board business, this includes attendance at Board Meetings.  Eligible expenses include:

• Reimbursement of petrol costs, rate currently set at 45p per mile, (15p per mile after 500 miles incurred annually) or the equivalent 2nd class rail fare, whichever is the lower.
• Any car parking fees associated with the travel.

We value volunteer development, and as part of this role your can develop your skills further by training to become a till user alongside your regular shop volunteer responsibilities, or progressing into a Key volunteer, a role which includes opening, running, and closing the shop in the absence of the manager.

Due to the nature of the role, we require all applicants to be aged 16 or over. You must have a UK address to volunteer with Sense.

Key responsibilities: Shop volunteer 

You’ll spend time doing a range of activities, including:

• Welcoming and assisting customers, providing great customer service, helping create a wonderful shopping experience.
• Receiving donated items from the public, thanking them for their support.
• Sorting, steaming and preparing donations for sale.
• Helping to display stock in eye-catching and exciting ways.
• Keeping the shop floor clean, safe and tidy.
• Talking to customers about Sense and the work we do.

Key responsibilities: Till volunteer

Being a till volunteer includes all the same responsibilities as a shop volunteer, however, when you’re ready, we’ll provide you with additional training to:

• Serve customers on the till in a warm and friendly way.
• Put sales through the till, packing them and thanking the customer for shopping with us.
• Talk to customers about Gift Aid and other fundraising initiatives.

Skills and Experience We Need

We are particularly interested in hearing from people with expertise in one or more of the following areas:

• Fundraising
• Charity or business development
• Marketing and communications
• Legal services
• Human Resources

Previous experience as a charity trustee is welcomed but not essential.

What We're Looking For

Successful candidates will:

• Understand the responsibilities and legal duties of charity trustees
• Be passionate about equality, inclusion, and empowering people with learning disabilities
• Be committed to making decisions that put the needs of our service users first
• Support our mission of delivering outstanding, person-centred services

Time Commitment

• Board meetings take place approximately every 6 weeks
• Meetings last approximately 2 hours
• Most meetings alternate between online and in person in Wimbledon
• The role is voluntary and unpaid, although reasonable expenses can be reimbursed
