At Acorns we provide care and support for life limited or life threatened children and their families. We are a charity, and our fundraising is vital to enable us to continue providing care and support to the children: it costs around £13 million a year to run our care services.

Join us as a Reception Volunteer at our Black Country Hospice in Walsall!

As an Reception Volunteer you'll be:

• Greeting all visitors, ensuring they sign in securely, feel welcomed and are passed over to the appropriate staff member
• Taking phone call messages to pass on to staff
• Signing post enquiries to the correct department
• Assisting general administration duties such as filing, scanning or checking stock deliveries
• With additional training taking donations and completing appropriate paperwork 

How much time will it take? 

We are looking for volunteers who are available to cover Thursdays at 2:30 pm till 5.00pm

We are also seeking volunteers who can work weekends only, with flexible hours. Please specify your preferred weekend shift on the application form.

Trustee responsibilities are wide and varied and include:

• Ensuring the charity is compliant with relevant legislation and is adequately resourced
• Contributing actively by giving strategic direction to the organisation, setting overall policy, defining goals and evaluating performance
• Ensuring the effective and efficient management and administration of the charity
• Ensuring the financial stability of the charity and proper investment of the charity’s funds
• Using any specific knowledge or experience you have to help the Board of Trustees reach sound decisions

Trustees are required to:

• Attend up to four board meetings a year
• Attend our annual Away Day and represent the charity at external events
• Act as an ambassador for Suffolk Mind
• Attend and participate in training as and when required.

Key tasks

Trustee Responsibilities:

• Attend and actively take part in each trustee meeting.
• Update the trustee board on the progress of any specific area of responsibility.

Other responsibilities, along with the board of trustees, include:

• Develop a long-term strategy for the foodbank with clear objectives which can be monitored and adapted.
• Ensure the organisation’s financial dealings are systematically accounted for and on time, independently examined and made publicly available when necessary.
• Ensure the charity is accountable, actively complying with statutory accounting and reporting requirements and the law. 
• Ensure appropriate financial plans are in place for future budget allocations as well as looking after contractual agreements with external partners that award money for core costs and additional projects.
• Help promote the organisation to a wider audience of potential funders and beneficiaries.
• Ensure the foodbank has appropriate procedures to: comply with current legislation and good practice; including employment, health and safety, equal opportunities, safeguarding and GDPR compliance/data protection etc.
• Act with reasonable care and skill, giving your time, thought and energy to your role.
• Serve as an additional promoter of the foodbank in the community.

As a charity we receive numerous enquiries on a daily basis from members of the public related to cats and their welfare. Our enquiries volunteers are part of a passionate team of volunteers that help Cats Protection signpost and manage these enquiries. They help our cats by answering questions from members of the public, providing advice and signposting queries to other volunteers and employees if needed.

About the role

We are a charity dedicated to providing loving, compassionate care to veterans and their partners living with disability or dementia. Alongside our care Homes, we also deliver services that support people to live well in their own homes and communities.

We are looking for kind, committed individuals to join us as Telephone Friends.

This free service offers regular, friendly telephone calls to veterans and their partners who may be feeling lonely or isolated. By giving a little of your time, you can make a meaningful difference. Offering companionship, a listening ear, and a reassuring voice.

Full training and ongoing support are provided, so you’ll feel confident and supported every step of the way.

Time commitment
