Who might be interested in this opportunity 

To be our new Honorary Treasurer, experience in strategic level finance is needed, but you might not have a finance qualification. This would be an exciting role for someone looking for an opportunity to support an organisation diversify their income streams and build on the strong financial foundations already in place. You don’t need to have previous experience as a Trustee as we’ll provide a full induction and training, and we have experienced Trustees on our Board. 

BSR is a high-performing award-winning organisation about to create our next strategy (2028-2033). We strive for continuous improvement and as a trustee you will be instrumental in helping us define what our impact should be and ensure we achieve our goals. We work alongside the complex and changing environment of the NHS and want to ensure that the rheumatology voice is heard and that the specialty designs and dictates its own future – an approach the Board will own. Our trustees support our drive to be financially sustainable, motivating our work on income generation and overseeing our investments. You will be part of a Board committed to constructive discussion, effective decision-making and respectful of everybody’s contribution.

Purpose of the Treasurer role

The Honorary Treasurer is a trustee of BSR and the Chair of the Finance and Risk Committee (FRC) and the Audit Committee. They are part of the Remuneration, People and Culture Committee. The Treasurer is also a Director on BSR’s trading subsidiary, BSR Enterprises Ltd. 

Members of the Board of Trustees make up the governing body of the society.Trustees are responsible for ensuring BSR remains true to its charitable purpose and objects set out in its governing documents and for meeting BSR’s legal and financial duties as a registered charity. BSR is also a registered company limited by guarantee and therefore all Trustees automatically become company directors registered at Companies House.All trustees share responsibility for monitoring BSR’s finances. 

Main responsibilities of the Treasurer

• To chair the Finance and Risk Committee, ensuring that BSR operates within the financial guidelines set by the Board, the Society’s governing documents, the Charity Commission and current legislation.

• To be part of the Remuneration, People and Culture Committee.

• To chair and document the annual Audit Committee following BSR’s annual financial audit 

• To support the Board of Trustees and SMT in meeting its strategic responsibility for BSR’s financial resources.

• To be actively involved in the financial security and on-going support of the development of the BSR’s financial aims and objectives.

• To present the financial accounts to the membership at the Annual General Meeting

• Support the FRC to carry out their duties to: 
  • ensure the charity keeps proper accounts 
  • review the charity’s financial performance 
  • review policies for finance and investment 
  • ensure that the charity has robust and effective financial controls in place 
  • liaise with the BSR staff team and with the charity’s auditor 
  • identify financial and other risks facing the organisation and recommending appropriate action 

Time commitment

At present, the post requires approximately 2 days per quarter, split over a range of duties, including:

• Preparing for all Board and FRC meetings- reading meeting packs and sending any queries in advance (variable, but approximately 2-3 hours per quarter) 

• Meeting with the COO in advance of each committee meeting to ensure the meetings run smoothly and efficiently (60 minutes each quarter) 

• Attending the Board of Trustees meetings (four times a year- each meeting is 3 hours, either online or in person)

• Chairing the Finance and Risk Committee meetings (four times a year- each meeting is 2 hours, held online)

• Attending the Remuneration, People and Culture Committee meetings (twice a year- each meeting is 1 hour, held online)

• Chairing the Audit Committee (once a year- one hour, held online) 

• Attending BSR Enterprises Ltd meetings (two a year – each meeting is 30 minutes, held online) 

• Attending the Annual General Meeting (once a year, held online)

• Attend an annual Trustees and SMT away day (once a year, in person) 

Trustees may also be asked, from time to time, to:

• Attend events and other meetings on behalf of BSR

• Attend training relevant to their role

• Be available between board meetings for advice and to make decisions via email

• Be available for other ad hoc requirements

Induction, training and support  

• BSR has a finance team who carry all out all day-to-day finance functions and provide quarterly management accounts to the Finance and Risk Committee. The new Treasurer will have support from this team, and from the COO both during their induction period and throughout their term in office. Support is also provided by the CEO and the Chair of Trustees. 

• A comprehensive induction is provided for all new Trustees, including access to external financial training for members of FRC 

• We use a values behaviour framework to support all our volunteers to thrive in their role 

• Specialist financial advice and support is provided by external auditors, investment house fund managers and an investment specialist firm.

• The FRC completes an annual review of their performance as a committee, and undertakes further training as required 

• The opportunity to shadow Board meetings before taking up post 

Term of office

The Treasurer role term is for three years, with the possibility of extension for a further 3 years with approval from the Board.

A growing women’s empowerment social enterprise in Uganda is seeking a volunteer accountant to strengthen budgeting, cashflow forecasting and financial systems.

The organisation supports over 300 women artisans, including single mothers, widows and teenage mothers, through vocational training and income generating opportunities linked to handmade crafts.

As international sales opportunities grow, the organisation wants to ensure its finance processes remain practical, sustainable and fit for purpose.

The volunteer will work with the Founder and Managing Director to review internal processes and controls, support effective use of Zoho Books, review the chart of accounts, improve budgeting and cashflow forecasting, develop simple management reporting tools and support audit preparation.

This would suit a hands on volunteer comfortable working closely with a small local team.

Vision Action is a unique organisation that works in low- and middle-income countries, supporting national governments to deliver and strengthen their eye health strategies. We work in partnership with local governments, civil society organisations, international and national NGOs, and the private sector. Our ambition is to increase equitable access to eye care services and glasses and accelerate achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goal 5.

The role of the board is to oversee the overall direction and activities of the charity, including its policies and procedures, to ensure that they are consistently in accordance with the charitable purposes defined in the objects clause in its constitution. The board sets and monitors the strategic direction of the charity, although the implementation of strategy is achieved through the executive team. The board must always act in the best interests of Vision Action, taking decisions as a group and not as individuals.

Terms of service

For Vision Action the trustees are members who have been elected to serve on the board. Vision Action’s constitution allows for up to 12 trustees, who can serve a maximum of three consecutive terms of three years.  Vision Action is a company limited by guarantee and the trustees are its legal directors. The trustee role is voluntary, although relevant expenses incurred in the course of fulfilling trustee responsibilities are reimbursable in line with organisational policy.

Trustees are appointed by the Vision Action board of trustees annually at the board meeting following the Annual General Meeting (AGM). The time commitment involved in being a trustee includes attendance at four board meetings per year, one of which is an all-day strategy session. Board meetings are typically held for half a day on a weekday afternoon, with at least half the meetings taking place online.  Board papers are circulated in advance for review and preparation.

In addition, trustees are expected to attend the AGM, which is usually held on a weekend, as well as occasional members’ forums or other Vision Action events, which are often arranged alongside board meetings in the evening. Trustees may also be asked to participate in ad hoc meetings or online discussions relating to specific topics. Sub-committee meetings are also held in advance of board meetings, and trustees are also expected to participate in one or more of these groups depending on their expertise and responsibilities. Trustees will also be expected to commit time to undertake a full induction process.

Main tasks

Charity trustees have ultimate responsibility for directing the affairs of the charity and ensuring it is solvent, well-run and delivering the charitable outcomes for the benefit of the public for which it has been set up. Each trustee will be expected to join one of the two sub-committees (Programmes and Research; Fundraising and Finance).  The committees meet (in person or remotely) at least four times per year, usually timed with or in advance of the board meetings. 

General responsibilities

• Ensure th[JT1] at Vision Action complies with its governing document (i.e. its constitution[JT2]  and byelaws), charity law, and any other relevant legislation or regulations.
• Ensure that Vision Action pursues its objects as defined in its governing document.
• Ensure Vision Action applies its resources exclusively in pursuance of its objects, i.e. it must not spend money on activities which are not included in the objects, however worthwhile they may be.
• Contribute actively to the board’s role in the formulation and review of strategy, setting overall policy, defining goals, setting targets and evaluating performance against agreed targets.
• Safeguard the good name and values of Vision Action and maintain good relations with its members.
• Ensure that all policies are implemented, monitored and reports are acted upon, (including the policies on harassment and misconduct, safeguarding, recruitment of ex-offenders, and anti- bribery).
• Strive for Vision Action to reflect the full diversity of society in all its activities.
• Ensure the financial stability of Vision Action.
• Protect and manage the property of Vision Action and ensure the proper investment of its funds.
• Appoint and support key leadership and monitor their performance.

In addition to the above statutory responsibilities, each trustee should attend board meetings and use any specific skills, knowledge or experience they have to help the board reach sound decisions.  This may involve leading discussions, focusing on key issues, providing advice and guidance on new initiatives, evaluation or other issues in which the trustee has special expertise; and then always upholding the decisions taken by Board. Trustees are also expected to support Vision Action’s fundraising initiatives.

Treasurer specific responsibilities

Hold specific responsibilities relevant to the role:

• Chair the fundraising and finance sub-committee, overseeing and advising on the financial risks, challenges, health and resilience of the charity, reporting back to the full board.
• Monitor and advise on the financial viability of the charity, including the financial risks. This should include regular monitoring of cost recovery.
• Advise the board on the financial implications of its plans and policies.
• Monitor the preparation of budgets, accounts and financial statements and their presentation to the board.

Ensure policies and practices are in keeping with aims:

• Oversee the development and implementation of financial reserves, cost‐recovery and investment policies.
• Annually review the financial control framework to identify any changes, gaps and potential areas of exposure.
• Oversee the development and review of other policies and procedures as delegated to the fundraising and finance sub-committee by the board.

Ensure best practice:

• Support the Co-CEO (finance & operations) in preparing and presenting the budgets, management accounts and annual financial statements to the board, ensuring it receives a fully informed picture of the charity’s financial performance, position and effectiveness.
• Liaise with the Co-Chief Executive Officers and, as appropriate, with the investment advisors and auditors on matters relating to the organisation’s financial activities.
• Provide board‐level liaison with the external auditors on specific issues such as the auditors’ management letter, auditor remuneration and related board representations.
• Lead on recommending the appointment of new auditors to members of the organisation.
• Work with the Finance and Operations Manager to ensure that proper accounts and records are maintained, and that financial resources are spent and invested in line with good governance and legal and regulatory requirements.
• With the Finance & Operations Manager and the Joint Chief Executive Officers, closely monitor the reserves and investment plan, providing assurance to the board on the organisation’s future financial stability.
• Review all management accounts before they are placed before the board.

• An understanding of charity accounting and reporting standards (Charities SORP 2026), or a willingness to develop this through personal learning and development.
• A recognised accountancy qualification (CAAB) and
• Experience in international development would be an advantage.

The position is supported by the CEO who is an accountant and a part time bookkeeper.

The International Humanity Foundation (IHF) is an international non-profit organization (NGO) dedicated to empowering marginalized communities through education and grassroots leadership. Operating across five continents, IHF maintains a unique "University" structure where volunteers from around the world collaborate to manage our children's centers in Kenya, Thailand, and Indonesia. Role Overview: "The Sound Behind the Story"

Great storytelling depends on great sound. The Audio Editing Team works closely with the Podcast Team to transform raw recordings into polished, professional episodes that reflect IHF's mission and voice.

Reporting to the Podcast Team Lead, this team is responsible for cleaning, refining, and finalizing audio content so that every interview, update, and story IHF shares sounds clear, consistent, and engaging for a global audience.

Key Responsibilities

• Audio Cleanup: Edit raw recordings to remove background noise, dead air, and unwanted segments.

• Sound Balancing: Adjust levels, equalization, and clarity so recordings sound consistent across episodes.

• Assembly & Structuring: Cut and arrange recorded segments into a cohesive final episode, including intros/outros where needed.

• Quality Control: Review edited audio for errors, clarity, and overall listening experience before release.

• Collaboration: Coordinate with the Podcast Team on timelines, episode requirements, and any special formatting needs.

• File Management: Organize and upload finished audio files to the appropriate shared drives and chatrooms.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Education: Minimum of a diploma; candidates with lower qualifications may still be considered based on relevant experience.

• Technical Skill: Practical experience with audio editing software (e.g., Audacity, Adobe Audition, GarageBand, or similar).

• Attention to Detail: Strong ear for sound quality, pacing, and clarity.

• Reliability: Able to meet weekly turnaround deadlines for edited episodes.

• Team Collaboration: Comfortable working across time zones with the Podcast Team and other collaborators.

• Technical Literacy: Comfortable using Google Workspace and shared drives/chat tools for file handling and communication.

Position Overview

The Head of People will be a key member of the leadership team, reporting directly to the CEO. This volunteer, unpaid role leads the People team (including HR Business Partners and Recruiting) and oversees People Operations, talent acquisition, and culture-building initiatives to ensure an inclusive, engaging, and high-performing environment. This role is fully remote.

Key Responsibilities

• People Operations & HR Strategy

  • Develop and implement HR policies, processes, and best practices that support the organization’s growth.

  • Oversee all aspects of people operations, including onboarding, performance management, compliance, and employee relations.

  • Ensure legal and ethical HR practices, even within a volunteer-driven environment.

  • Leverage HR technology and tools to streamline people operations.

• Talent Management

  • Develop and implement best-in-class volunteer and employee onboarding programs.

  • Create career development opportunities to enhance engagement and retention.

• Culture & Employee Experience

  • Champion a strong, mission-driven culture aligned with the organization’s values.

  • Develop employer branding and internal communications programs.

  • Drive initiatives to foster employee engagement, well-being, and a sense of belonging.

  • Lead DEI efforts across the organization.

  • Support leadership in resolving conflicts and improving team dynamics.

Required Qualifications & Experience

• Minimum of 10 years of experience in human resources in a leadership role.

• Experience leading an HR team, preferably in a nonprofit or volunteer-based organization.

• Strong knowledge of HR best practices, including talent acquisition, employee relations, and organizational culture.

• Proven ability to build and implement HR policies and programs from the ground up.

• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and influence at all levels.

• Experience working in a remote and distributed team environment.

• Demonstrated passion for Solution Community’s mission and commitment to fostering a positive workplace culture.

Preferred Qualifications

• HR certification (e.g., SHRM-CP, PHR, or equivalent) is a plus.

• Experience managing volunteers and remote teams.

• Background in DEI initiatives and culture transformation.
