As a volunteer trustee, you will play a key role in shaping the future of our community-focused charity, ensuring that we continue to deliver vital services and support for the people of East Bowling and beyond.
About BD4 Community Trust
Supporting and Restoring Community across the Generations. BD4 Community Trust is a local charity committed to improving the lives of individuals and families in the BD4 area. We provide a range of services, including support for vulnerable groups, community events, educational programmes, and initiatives to tackle social isolation and disadvantage. Our mission is to create a thriving, inclusive, and resilient community for all.
Our BD4 Family project works to help families to come together to learn, share and grow, where they can feel safe to enjoy quality time together and access encouragement and support when needed. The groups we run support the needs of our ever-expanding community by really listening to families and encouraging them to be part of our decision making and offering opportunities to volunteer and get involved.
Gems has been running since 1983 and works with the older members of our community delivering a variety of activities each week with additional activities at times throughout the year. The project provides opportunities for older people to make friends, participate in healthy activities, enjoy a nutritional meal, and enjoy the occasional day trip out.
Role of a Trustee
As a trustee, you will:
- Contribute to the strategic direction of the charity.
- Ensure that BD4 Community Trust remains financially sustainable.
- Provide support and oversight to the charity’s staff and volunteers.
- Help build partnerships with other community organisations, local authorities, and stakeholders.
- Ensure that the charity complies with all legal and regulatory requirements.
- Bring your skills, experience, and enthusiasm to help us grow and achieve our mission.
Who We're Looking For
We are seeking individuals with a variety of skills and experiences, including (but not limited to):
- Leadership and governance experience.
- Knowledge of community development or charitable work.
- Financial or legal expertise.
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Passion for improving the lives of those in the BD4 community.

Time Commitment
- Trustees are expected to attend quarterly Board meetings (approximately 2 hours per meeting on an evening).
- Additional time may be required for training and community events.
- The role is voluntary, and reasonable out-of-pocket expenses will be reimbursed.

Trustee
Role purpose
As a trustee of Community Resource, you’ll play a key role in guiding the charity’s direction and ensuring we stay true to our mission.
You’ll provide strategic leadership and oversight, working closely with the CEO and leadership team to help us achieve our goals and deliver lasting impact.
Trustees take part in board meetings and may also contribute to subcommittees or working groups focused on areas such as finance, risk, events, and safeguarding.
You may also represent Community Resource externally, helping to build relationships with partners, supporters, and stakeholders and attend inspiring events that celebrate and support rural communities across Shropshire.
Requirements
We’re particularly keen to hear from individuals with current or recent senior-level experience in areas such as law, business accounting, IT, cybersecurity, health, or entrepreneurship. These skills are especially valuable as we navigate growth and innovation.
However, we also warmly welcome interest from those with other relevant expertise or lived experience that could benefit our organisation and enrich the board’s perspective.
Location
Shrewsbury, Shropshire
Salary
Unremunerated, but reasonable expenses may be reimbursed.
Commitment
The board meets eight times a year, combining in person and online sessions (usually Tuesdays, 4– 7pm), including our AGM. Additionally, there is an annual trustee and leadership team away day.
Length of term
All trustees are appointed for an initial term of three years and are eligible to re-stand for election for up to a maximum of two subsequent terms.
Step 1

Have an initial conversation with the CEO and/or Chair of the Board of Trustees.
Step 3
If both sides agree there’s a good fit, you’ll be invited to meet members of the wider board for an interview.

The interviewing trustees will make a recommendation to the board regarding your appointment. You will receive a written response as to whether the board is proceeding with your application for joining the board and if successful, arrangements for your induction.

We’re looking for two Community Connectors, over the age of 18 years old, based at Leicester Royal Infirmary, Infirmary Square, Leicester.
You’ll be volunteering at a set day and time to suit you, once a month.
This is a new project within the hospital and offers a great opportunity to someone to have the support and opportunities from both the Stroke Association and Leicester Royal Infirmary staff.
The volunteers will represent the Stroke Association within the hospital to:
- Build relationships within the hospital and local community with people, staff and other organisations to raise awareness of stroke, our charity and support available.
- Engage within the hospital and potentially local communities by supporting the delivery of presentations or talks (either face to face or digitally), share your experience of stroke (if applicable) and attend fundraising events and cheque collections.
- Engage with stroke survivors and their loved ones, sharing your story (if applicable), discussing stroke impact and the support available.
A Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check is required for this role.
You will need to be registered as an NHS volunteer for this role- we can support this process.

Why we want you
As a community engagement volunteer you and your fellow branch members will create a range of activities to help spread the word about SSAFA within your community to ensure that that our Armed Forces community know that SSAFA are here to help and that we need the public’s support to continue offering our services.
This role is diverse and allows for you to focus on the areas that you have skills or interests in. The role has flexibility and can work around your other commitments.
Below are some examples of possible activities you can take on or be a part of as a SSAFA Community Engagement Volunteer.
What you will be doing
- Activity Organisers - Love planning? Help coordinate amazing events like charity dinners, carol concerts, and local fairs.
- Event Champions - Be the friendly face of SSAFA! Help at events, chat with visitors, sell merchandise, and spread the word about our work.

- Promoting SSAFA Services - Help provide a warm, welcoming presence at Veterans Breakfast clubs, cafes or hubs - offering information about SSAFA services and signposting as appropriate.
- SSAFA Storytellers -Deliver engaging talks to organisations and groups, sharing SSAFA’s incredible history and mission.
- Community Connectors - Collaborating with the Community Engagement Manager to establish a local network, promote SSAFA's services, and respond to community opportunities such as gardening projects.
- Fundraising Heroes - Whether it’s rallying local businesses, organising events, or getting creative with unique fundraising ideas, you’ll play a crucial role in keeping SSAFA’s support going strong.
- Administrators - Are you detail-oriented and love keeping things organised? Assist with branch and event administration, manage schedules and branch calendars, and ensure everything runs smoothly currently being undertaken.
The skills you need
- Be friendly and approachable.
- Confident to engage with the public, potential clients, volunteers and SSAFA colleagues face-to-face.
- Reliable attitude, staying connected with your Branch and/or Community Engagement Manager about your availability.
- Access to public transport or a car to get to events if necessary.
- Basic IT skills would be an advantage.
