As a Community Support Volunteer - Stream for Samaritans, you’ll be helping to research and engage with new creators utilising a range of skills from social media to community management to help Samaritans towards their vision that fewer people should die by suicide.

What is the role?

The Community Support Volunteer - Stream for Samaritans will work closely with the Events Fundraising Manager Gaming and Streaming to help increase the reach of the team in the online creator space so Samaritans can raise more funds to help those with suicidal thoughts get help when they need it the most.

You will be a vital part of the team, using your skills and network to find new creators to engage with, carrying out research and safeguarding checks and becoming a key point of contact for those wanting to learn more about this exciting area of fundraising. You’ll also help to set the tone for our Discord community by posting regularly, moderating and being part of conversations to inspire our supporters to get more involved with fundraising for Samaritans.

This role will give you the opportunity to:

• Use your passion and enthusiasm for all things content creation to help Samaritans towards their vision that fewer people should die by suicide
• Use your engagement and communication skills to support Samaritans in the expansion and development of our content creator fundraising events
• Learn new skills and meet new people both virtually and in person
• Gain experience of community management and work in the charity sector as part of a busy events team at a large UK charity
• Learn more about content creator led fundraising, event planning and project management
• Attend a variety of industry events throughout the year
• You’ll be helping to support Samaritans and their work to help those who are struggling to cope for any reason

Qualities and experience

• Enthusiasm and passion for streaming and content creation
• Good understanding and knowledge of Discord, Twitch, YouTube and other platforms
• Personable, approachable and able to develop relationships with a wide range of individuals

Key responsibilities

• Outreach and engage with creators to build relationships and promote fundraising events
• Support with event planning and researching trends and opportunities in the sector
• Create social media posts for our Discord Server

Time commitment

The role is incredibly flexible and any support you can provide would be appreciated - equivalent of one day per fortnight would be ideal. This time can be spread across multiple days however suits you best.

As a Volunteer Community Connector, you will play an important role in the Compassionate Communities programme by helping to normalise conversations around death and dying, grief and loss. We believe that breaking down these taboos and getting people talking is key in helping communities support each other.

Your role will involve:

• Supporting and facilitating ‘compassionate conversations’ about death and dying, grief and loss in the community - promoting social connectedness. This may include signposting to relevant community support or care provision.

• Offering an informal, empathetic listening ear around topics such as life limiting illness, caregiving, dying and bereavement.

• Offering your support for informal sessions or larger events that may be held in community groups, charities, cafes or other organisations.

Main duties of this role:

• Attend and support public-facing events focused on compassionate conversations and awareness-raising (how to have difficult conversations).

• Offer a welcoming, supportive presence and engage people in meaningful conversations in a non-judgmental manner.

• Sensitively listen to people’s experiences, stories or questions related to serious illness, loss and caregiving - answering questions where able; or signposting or referring to your line manager where unable to respond.

• Help to promote Compassionate Communities principles and the work of St Helena in a positive, accessible way.

• Connect with St Helena staff and partners before and after events to give feedback and receive support.

• Assist with basic event logistics such as setting up spaces, offering refreshments, distributing materials, and collecting informal feedback.

• Work flexibly across community venues.

• Establish contacts within the community and build relationships

• Understand and adhere to confidentiality and data protection regulations at all times. 

Training and Supervision:

• Online mandatory training relevant to the role

• Compassionate Conversations training – online/in person

• Dedicated line manager for training and support with regular meetings 

Experience and Qualifications required:

• Experience in a role involving interaction with the public, especially in a supportive or listening capacity

• Understanding of the importance of compassion and empathy when discussing sensitive topics

• Ability to maintain personal and professional boundaries

• Comfortable speaking with people from a wide range of backgrounds

What are we looking for?

We need a dependable person with commercial or charity finance experience to help direct our charity's financial strategy as a member of our Board of Trustees. Senior finance background is useful, and Board or Executive Committee experience is preferred, but not essential.

We value drive, passion aligned with our charitable aims, and commitment to our strategy and commercial success. Open, collaborative teamwork is how we work, and any complementary talents that can be brought to the table will be very useful and valued for supporting and coaching our existing team. 

Time commitment includes preparation for and attendance at quarterly Board meetings, ad hoc informal catch-up conversations, budget and month/year-end support in collaboration with our accountant. This may take around 10-15 hours per month, plus additional time for any voluntary projects as necessary

What will you be doing?

You'll collaborate with our small, friendly team of Trustees, the General Manager and our dedicated, passionate and hard-working operations teams, to design and implement strategies supporting long-term charity sustainability. Your experience will help drive efficiency, best practice, and will provide support for staff through coaching and mentoring. You'll play a key role in achieving the charity's objectives. Your local knowledge, networks, and community connections will be valuable. We welcome diversity, especially from youth, disabled, and ethnic minority applicants.

Samaritans is looking for an enthusiastic and proactive Fundraising Events Admin Volunteer to support our busy Community and Events Team. Your support will help us raise the vital funds needed to ensure people can access emotional support whenever they need it most.

What is the role?

As a Fundraising Events Admin Volunteer, you will play a key role in helping our team focus on delivering successful fundraising events and supporting our incredible fundraisers. From managing enquiries to sending out fundraising materials, you’ll help keep everything running smoothly behind the scenes.

This is a fantastic opportunity to gain hands-on experience in events, fundraising, marketing, and supporter stewardship while making a meaningful difference.

This role will give you the opportunity to:

• Experience volunteering within a busy events team within a large UK charity.
• Develop strong communication skills working within a diverse network.
• Gain an insight into event marketing
• Support our Third-Party Events (TPE) fundraisers, taking part in events like London Marathon, Great North Run and Paris Marathon as well as fundraisers who take part in primarily virtual events, such as Dawn Walk and our Dog Walking Challenge.

• Support the Community and Events team to help us deliver our successful fundraising events and stewardship.
• Support our do your own thing (DYOT) and events fundraisers.

To help make that happen, we’re looking for a passionate team of fundraisers to work alongside one another, supporting the Creative Director, each contributing in different ways to support the organisation’s sustainability and impact.

The Internal Community Fundraiser supports internal and community-based fundraising activities, organising and coordinating opportunities at local events such as school fetes, markets, fairs, and larger public events. Through these local events you will cultivate relationships with individuals, groups, schools, and businesses to drive income and raise awareness.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys planning events, organising, and bringing people together, and wants to help grow our income in a practical, hands-on way.

Key Responsibilities:

• Help identify and organise community fundraising opportunities, including events, challenges, and campaigns

• Build and maintain strong relationships with local businesses, schools, faith groups and community organisations to encourage financial and in-kind support.

• Support planning and logistics for attending events (stall set-up, materials, rota support)

• Liaise internally to ensure events are well-prepared and staffed

• Help coordinate fundraising resources

• Support with new ideas for local fundraising opportunities

What We’re Looking For:

• Experience in fundraising, or community engagement.

• Experience planning events or organising community-based campaigns.

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal.

• Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with diverse stakeholders.

• Good organisational skills and the ability to manage your time effectively while balancing the voluntary role with other commitments.

• Understanding of homelessness-related issues, or a genuine interest in learning about the challenges faced by vulnerable individuals in the community.
