Role Overview

We are seeking a skilled and motivated HR professional to join us as a Volunteer HR Consultant. This role will support the development and implementation of effective people practices, ensuring our charity operates in line with UK employment law and HR best practice.

This is an excellent opportunity to contribute your expertise to a meaningful cause while gaining experience in the charity sector.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide expert advice on HR policies, procedures, and best practices.  
• Help develop policies on issues such as performance management, equal opportunities, disciplinary procedures and absence management.
• Review and update HR policies to ensure compliance with UK employment legislation
• Support recruitment and onboarding processes, including drafting job descriptions/adverts
• Advise on employee relations matters (e.g. performance, absence, disciplinary issues)
• Assist with drafting HR correspondence if and when required.
• Attend HR meetings if and when required. 
• Advise line managers in how to implement policies and procedures
• Assist with the development of staff handbooks and organisational policies
• Support trustees and leadership with HR strategy and workforce planning

Person Specification

Essential:

• Proven experience in HR (e.g. HR Advisor, HR Manager, HR Consultant)
• Knowledge of UK employment law and HR best practice
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Desirable:

• CIPD qualification (Level 5 or above) or equivalent experience

IAPWA is seeking an experienced HR Volunteer to provide strategic guidance and independent oversight of our people practices. This role is focused on supporting good governance rather than delivering day-to-day HR operations.

Working alongside the CEO and relevant staff, the volunteer will help ensure the charity's HR policies, procedures and practices remain compliant with UK employment legislation, reflect best practice, and support a positive and inclusive working environment.

The volunteer will help welcome people, provide Romani language support and help residents use digital services. They will work alongside Europia staff to make sessions welcoming and accessible.

What we're looking for: A friendly face to welcome visitors and animals to our rescue centre in Whitminster, answering their questions, and directing them to the appropriate member of staff. You will also help make sure the Teckels shop is well stocked, clean and tidy, and looks its best.

This role is ideal for someone with excellent customer service and communication skills, able to deal with a wide range of people visiting in person or over the phone. An eye for detail is helpful for processing admin and making bookings.

Our rescue centre can get very busy, so it is important you are comfortable working in a fast paced environment and have the ability to multi task. You may be the first person someone meets at Teckels, so you will need to be polite, helpful, understanding and discreet, able to handle sensitive situations.

Two small community based organisations in Malawi are seeking practical finance support to strengthen day to day financial management, reporting and controls.

Both organisations work across vocational training, youth development and livelihoods support, with small local teams and simple finance systems.

The volunteer will work closely with staff to improve budgeting, cashflow management, financial reporting, record keeping, controls and procedures.

This is a very practical grassroots placement, focused on helping local teams build confidence, consistency and simple sustainable systems.

We are busy team delivering the Supported Internships programme in Stafford (ST18). The programme is based around employment and leisure for young adults with learning disabilities between age 16 and 25. We help people to develop skills for work in a employment setting and build their confidence.
