What You’ll Do

Help promote Age UK Enfield services and events by distributing flyers and posters in local community spaces. You’ll raise awareness and act as a friendly face for the organisation in your local area.

You will:

· Distribute flyers and materials to homes, libraries, shops, cafes, community centres and GP surgeries

· Engage with the public in a polite, friendly way

· Answer basic questions about Age UK Enfield

· Keep a simple log of where you’ve delivered materials and how many

· Report back to your supervisor with any feedback or updates

Skills You’ll Use or Develop

· Willingness to walk and stand for periods of time

Our shops help raise lots of money for us. It’s always lovely chatting to our customers about the fabulous items we sell and telling them about the fantastic work that we do. As a volunteer you will get the chance to meet new people and make friends, plus be part of an amazing team of volunteers.

There’s so much for you to get stuck into when volunteering in our shops. We have several different positions available.

Stock Sorting Assistant: We get lots of donations so you will be rolling up your sleeves in the back room where you will be receiving, sorting, and pricing donations, predominantly Bric-a-Brac, Books and Clothes, it's always exciting when one of our volunteers spots a real gem.

Furniture Store Assistant: The role will also include assisting with moving furniture around the store, assembling & dismantling beds, and other flat packed furniture, and getting to express your creative side, by making attractive room displays.

It would be ideal if you could volunteer at least one shift a week, which is about four hours but we're also happy to have more flexible times.

No special skills are needed as we will show you what to do and will provide all the training you need. But if you have any experience or particular interest tell us, it may come in useful. Voluntary Interim Charity Manager

Women on the Frontline Ministries (WOFM) is a Christian charity supporting women affected by sexual exploitation, trauma, isolation, abuse and vulnerability through outreach, advocacy, practical support and relationship-based care.

For many years, WOFM has built trusted relationships within local communities across East London, working alongside churches, frontline organisations and partner agencies to provide compassionate, non-judgemental support to women facing complex challenges.

We are now seeking a values-driven and collaborative Volunteer Charity Manager to help lead the organisation into its next season of growth, sustainability and impact.

About the Role

The Volunteer Charity Manager will provide overall leadership, coordination and operational oversight for the charity, working closely with the Board of Trustees, staff team and volunteers to strengthen the delivery of WOFM’s mission and future development.

This is a varied leadership role combining strategic coordination, relationship management, community engagement and operational oversight within a grassroots charity environment.

The successful candidate will not be working alone. The organisation currently includes:

• a part-time Women’s Support Worker

• a part-time Social Media Lead

• a dedicated team of volunteer Outreach Assistants

• an active and supportive Board of Trustees committed to working closely alongside the Manager

The Board is seeking a self-starting individual who works well independently and is committed to supporting the successful candidate with a sustainable organisational structure as the charity continues to grow and develop.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Operational Coordination

• Provide overall coordination and day-to-day leadership across the charity’s outreach programmes and activities

• Oversee the effective delivery of operational priorities, outreach services and community engagement initiatives

• Maintain and strengthen effective systems, administration and organisational processes

• Work collaboratively with staff, volunteers and trustees to ensure services are delivered safely, compassionately and effectively

Team Leadership & Volunteer Coordination

• Encourage, coordinate and develop staff and volunteers across the organisation

• Oversee volunteer communication, engagement and rota coordination

• Contribute to recruitment, onboarding and ongoing team development

• Foster a collaborative, values-led and supportive organisational culture

Safeguarding & Community Engagement

• Promote good safeguarding practice and help ensure safeguarding responsibilities are managed appropriately

• Build strong working relationships with local organisations, churches and support agencies

• Contribute to advocacy, signposting and practical support activities where appropriate

Partnerships & Representation

• Build and maintain positive relationships with community partners, churches, local organisations and stakeholders

• Represent WOFM at meetings, networking opportunities and community events

• Champion awareness of the charity’s mission, impact and future vision

Governance, Sustainability & Development

• Work closely with the Chair and Board of Trustees to support the strategic direction of the organisation

• Prepare updates and reports for trustee meetings where required

• Contribute to fundraising activities, funding applications and sustainability planning

• Help strengthen the long-term development and operational capacity of the charity

About You

We are looking for someone who is compassionate, organised and able to lead with empathy, wisdom and good judgement.

You may have experience within:

• charity leadership or voluntary sector management

• community outreach or social impact work

• ministry or faith-based leadership

• safeguarding or support services

• operations, programme or project coordination

• volunteer management or partnership working

We also welcome applications from individuals with transferable leadership experience and a genuine passion for supporting vulnerable women and strengthening communities.

Note: This role is open to female applicants only, as being female is deemed to be a genuine occupational requirement under Schedule 9, Paragraph 1 of the Equality Act 2010. The successful candidate is required to complete an enhanced DBS check.

Time Commitment & Availability

This is a flexible volunteer leadership role of approximately 20 hours per week, which we are happy to shape around the right person’s other commitments. We would suggest thinking of it as roughly 4 hours a day across a typical working week but how those hours are arranged is genuinely negotiable, and we are open to discussing an arrangement that works for you.

The role is hybrid, combining:

• remote and flexible working from home

• attendance at outreach activities, particularly on Wednesday afternoons for daytime drop-in sessions and Friday evenings for evening outreach

• meetings and occasional events in East London (typically evenings and occasional weekends)

• trustee and board meetings on a regular scheduled cycle

Reasonable, pre-agreed out-of-pocket expenses actually incurred in carrying out the role (for example, travel) will be reimbursed. Ideally, we are seeking someone able to commit to the role for a minimum of 6 months to support continuity and sustainable growth.

Support & Future Development

The successful candidate will work alongside a committed Board of Trustees, staff team and volunteers who are passionate about the mission of the charity.

While this is currently a voluntary role, the Board is actively working to secure funding with the aim of creating paid leadership and operational roles in the future. We cannot guarantee if or when such funding will be confirmed, and any future paid appointment would be made through a fair and open recruitment process. That said, someone who grows with WOFM and comes to know the organisation well would be well placed to be considered as those opportunities arise.

The organisation is continuing to strengthen its operational foundations and develop sustainable structures to support long-term impact within the community.

Dementia Activity Coordinator

What You’ll Do

Bring joy and stimulation to people living with dementia by planning and running creative, engaging activities at our day care centre, that encourage connection, laughter and participation. You’ll us your skills and imagination to lead sessions centred around an activity area of your choice such as music, movement, theatre, storytelling, arts, cooking or gardening.

You will:

· Plan and deliver fun and inclusive activity sessions for day centre members living with dementia

· Adapt activities to suit individual needs and abilities

· Encourage participation and build confidence among members

· Work alongside staff to ensure sessions run safely and smoothly

Skills You’ll Use or Develop

· Creativity and the ability to engage people

Are you looking for a pivotal role in a diverse, groundbreaking charity? Join Hidayah as our next treasurer on the Board of Trustees. 

Hidayah is a volunteer-led organisation supporting LGBTQ+ Muslims through community support, advocacy, education, and wellbeing initiatives.

The treasurer carries out Hidayah’s financial responsibilities, files reports, and presents regularly to the Board of Trustees. 

What do we specifically expect of this role?

• To take accountability for the bank account and to be an authorised signatory.

• To present financial updates at Trustee meetings and to devolve budgets where necessary.

• To ensure adherence to budgets.

• To present a predicted target and actual budget for the year.

• To work with the chair to give breakdowns of costings for fundraising bids and for events/activities/paid members of staff.

• To create the annual year-end financial report for the Charity Commission.

• To seek out revenue opportunities within the limits of Hidayah’s activities.

• To document how restricted and unrestricted funds are spent, including reports for grant funders.

• To approach organisations for donations and sponsorship opportunities.

• To increase revenue through public donations (online and actual) and to be proactive in doing this.

• To work with other Trustees to plan income-generating activities.

How much commitment is required?

This role requires a minimum commitment of 4–5 hours per week, with additional time required during busy periods or organisational activities. The following commitments are in place for all Hidayah Trustees:

• To be able to attend all Trustee meetings.

• To deliver a comprehensive report at each Board meeting with updates, completing actions in time;

• To aim to attend all other meetings as necessary, including the annual Strategy Day, annual General Meeting and (where geography permits) Hidayah events.

• To help to fundraise for and advertise any Hidayah events and fundraising drives.

• To be part of a communications group (via Discord) to keep up to date with Hidayah developments.

• To contribute to and to maintain the administration of our file-sharing system, Google Drive, so it is always up-to-date with clear records, templates, and forms.

• To check emails and to respond when needed.

• Line managing the finance assistant, including regular 121 meetings.

• Enthusiasm, dedication, responsiveness, flexibility, and eagerness in supporting the aims, vision, and mission of Hidayah.

• To contribute to the Charity Commission's annual report once a year.

• The role is subject to a 6-month probationary period.

• To read new Hidayah policies and initiatives.

• To read, understand, and agree with the constitution of Hidayah (available on the website).

What do we expect from a treasurer?

Please note that you must agree with and fit the essential criteria below to be eligible to volunteer in this role:

Knowledge & Experience:

• Educated to degree level or has experience which demonstrates equivalent analytical ability.

• Knowledge of quality assurance systems and their benefits for the voluntary sector.

• Knowledge of good governance procedures for the voluntary sector.

• Experience of budget management, preferably in the charity sector, but applicable to other sectors.

• High level of numeracy and close attention to detail.

• Basic AAT (Association of Accounting Technicians) experience is desirable but not essential.

Skills & Attributes

• Ability or willingness to learn line managing, developing, coaching, and motivating volunteers.

• Working and influencing at both a strategic and operational level, ensuring excellent working relationships with trustees and volunteers.

• A self-starter who can maintain their workload with minimal supervision.

• Friendliness, enthusiasm, dedication, responsiveness, flexibility, and eagerness in supporting the aims, vision, and mission of Hidayah.

• Ability to respond to conflict situations (if needed) with professionalism, adhering to Hidayah’s policies.

Our shops are a hive of activity and the heart of the local community. They raise funds to support our vital work and provide a place for local people to find out more about how we help older people in their area. Our volunteers always enjoy being part of our shop teams; chatting to our customers about the fabulous items we sell and telling them about the fantastic work that we do.

As a Customer Service Volunteer you will get the chance to meet new people and make friends, plus play a vital role in helping to raise funds to support local older people.

You will be working on the shop floor as the welcoming face of our charity. Serving customers with a smile, using the till (don't worry, we will show you how) and handling money and sales.

When people come in to donate items you will be thanking them for their support and helping them to complete Gift Aid signups on our Gift Aid system.

You will help to make our shops look amazing; putting out items that the sorting teams have prepared, helping with merchandising, labelling and ensuring the shop is clean and always looking its' best.

You will need to be ok using a touch screen device as our tills run on a tablet, though we will always provide full training and some time for you to get used to using this first.

Lastly, you may have people enquiring about our work, or asking for help and we will provide you with all the details of where to refer them to within the charity.

Our Stock Preparation Volunteers always enjoy being part of our shop teams; making new friends and helping the charity to maximise the income from the amazing items people donate to us.

In this role you will usually be working in our donation sorting area, which is off the shop floor. Here you will help the team process, prepare and price the items people donate.

We receive hundreds of bags of clothing, bric-a-brac, toys, games and all sorts of items every week. You will help us to turn these into vital funds to support our work.

After full training you will be part of our processing team; sorting through the donated items, identifying those which we should sell, preparing them and pricing before they are put onto the shop floor.

You may have a particular area of experience, such as clothing, books or antiques. Your skills and knowledge will help us to gain the best value for each item and some of our volunteers even coordinate entire sections, such as a book rooms within our stores.

When people come in to donate their items you will be helping to thank them for their support. Many items are Gift Aided so when processing the items you will ensure that Gift Aid labels are attached so that we can gain this additional vital income.

You will help to make our products look amazing; steaming clothes (if this is your area) and helping to clean and make every item look great and ready for sale.

It would be ideal if you could volunteer at least one shift a week, which is about three hours but we're also happy to have more flexible times. No special skills are needed as we will show you what to do and will provide all the training you need.

Come and join our Charity Shop in Langney Road, Eastbourne

Our shops are a hive of activity and the heart of the local community. They raise funds to support our vital work and provide a place to find out more about how we help older people in the local area.

Our Stock Preparation Volunteers always enjoy being part of our shop teams; making new friends and helping the charity to maximise the income from the amazing items people donate to us.

In this role you will usually be working in our donation sorting area, which is off the shop floor. Here you will help the team process, prepare and price the items people donate.

We receive hundreds of bags of clothing, bric-a-brac, toys, games and all sorts of items every week. You will help us to turn these into vital funds to support our work.

After full training you will be part of our processing team; sorting through the donated items, identifying those which we should sell, preparing them and pricing before they are put onto the shop floor.

You may have a particular area of experience, such as clothing, books or antiques. Your skills and knowledge will help us to gain the best value for each item and some of our volunteers even coordinate entire sections, such as a book rooms within our stores.

When people come in to donate their items you will be helping to thank them for their support. Many items are Gift Aided so when processing the items you will ensure that Gift Aid labels are attached so that we can gain this additional vital income.

You will help to make our products look amazing; steaming clothes (if this is your area) and helping to clean and make every item look great and ready for sale.

We currently need volunteers on Monday (1pm-4.30pm), Tuesday (1pm-4.30pm), Weds (9.30 am-1pm). No special skills are needed as we will show you what to do and will provide all the training you need.
