We’re pleased to announce an exciting opportunity for two trustees.

Parkrun is a health and wellbeing charity and our vision is to create a healthier and happier planet.

Since our conception in 2004, parkrun has evolved into a global social movement with a vibrant and inclusive community at its core. As of 2025, we have recorded over 120-million instances of walking, jogging, running, and volunteering.

Our mission is to transform lives by empowering people to be active, together, outdoors in their local community; and to protect parkrun for the generations to come. Each and every weekend, we deliver free, weekly timed events that people of all ages and backgrounds can join in. By tackling barriers to participation, we encourage communities to come together and embrace regular physical activity.

Now in its 22nd year, parkrun spans over 2,800 locations in 23 countries with more than 11 million people registered, and counting. And we have really only just begun.

The role

We are excited to announce that we are now recruiting two new trustees for parkrun’s Global Board. The new trustees will bring their diverse perspectives to provide valuable support to the parkrun charity in making the world a happier and healthier place and deliver on our global objectives.

Our trustees and committee members are a vital part of our volunteering community. While the role is unpaid, reasonable expenses will be reimbursed

What is it?

This is an opportunity to work with a diverse, passionate board and leadership team where you can play a pivotal role in helping us to achieve our ambitious five-year global strategy. By becoming a trustee on parkrun’s Global Board, you will help to shape the future of the world’s largest health and wellbeing movement.

Being a trustee is more than simply attending board meetings; it offers you the chance to be part of something that really matters and brings all types of people together. In this position, you will bring your unique expertise to help break down barriers to physical activities, and you will see the positive effects of your work in the wider parkrun community, every weekend.

Who are we looking for?

Our Trustees bring a range of skills and experience to the charity. As we expand further across the world, we are specifically looking for global experience and with one of these two skill sets and experiences:

• Knowledge of sports governance, whether in a National Governing Body or other similar entity, and safeguarding.

AND / OR

• Significant experience as an Ambassador and/or Event Director at parkrun. We are open to applications from our international volunteers.

Knowledge and experience of digital, charity governance or fundraising within a charity would also be preferred. One of the two profiles could also have the ability and experience to fulfil the role of Welfare and Safety Lead for the Board.

The time commitment is estimated at 1-2 days per month. This includes attending usually four board meetings a year, as well sub-committee meetings as required (sub-committees are usually virtual), and any annual gatherings. Trustees usually join one or two sub-committees.

What are we looking for?

iProbono seeking a Treasurer, a new Trustee who will strengthen our dynamic governance board and help shape the next chapter of our growth. Our Trustees work with a leadership team that values creativity, empathy, and pragmatism in delivering justice solutions to the most vulnerable people in our communities. As Treasurer, you will provide strategic financial oversight, ensure sound governance, and support the organisation’s long-term sustainability. Trustees are directors of the company.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide strategic oversight of financial management and sustainability.
• Serve as Chair of the Finance Committee, working closely with the CEO, senior management and external auditors.
• Ensure compliance with financial, legal, and governance responsibilities in line with charity and company law.
• Support the leadership team in setting and monitoring budgets and managing financial risks.
• Contribute to the overall strategic direction of iProbono as an active Board member.

Person Specification

Essential

• Accounting qualification from a recognised UK body (e.g. ICAEW, ICAS, ACCA, or CIMA).
• Experience in financial management, auditing, or charity finance, ideally within an international or non-profit context.
• Experience serving on the Board of a civil society organisation, with close involvement in governance, finance, or legal oversight.
• Understanding of or experience working in the Global South, particularly South Asia.

Desirable

• Experience working with fundraising professionals, knowledge of donor landscapes, or the ability to open doors to new funding opportunities.
• Interest or experience in the fields of justice, legal empowerment, and capacity-building.

Commitment:

Our Treasurer should be based in the United Kingdom is expected to attend:

• Four quarterly Board meetings in London;
• Four Finance Committee meetings in London; and
• One annual strategy day.

Some Board meetings may be attended virtually. This is a voluntary position and reasonable travel expenses are covered for those travelling from outside London to attend meetings.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY: MEDICAL DOCTORS NEEDED

Global Health Reform Initiative (GHRI) is a humanitarian health organization dedicated to improving access to quality healthcare for underserved and vulnerable communities through telemedicine.

GHRI is seeking a volunteer lawyer with knowledge of United States law to support our healthcare, humanitarian, and digital health initiatives. Transparency International UK is the UK national chapter of this movement. Our work with the British government, parliamentarians, and the private sector plays a critical role in tackling corruption at home, addressing the UK’s global corruption footprint and helping multinational companies prevent corruption by operating with integrity. Role of Trustees / Board members

The Board are principally accountable to members of TI-UK, the Charity Commission and the TI movement and they also ensure that the activities of the charitable company meet public benefit expectations. The employees are a key stakeholder group and the Board actively engages with them on governance matters and in sharing decisions taken.

The broad areas of the work of the Board include:

• Strategic direction, ensuring that we are responding to the changing external environment across programme areas
• Performance, monitoring the performance of the executive against strategic and operational plans; including programme delivery
• Assurance, contributing to the identification and monitoring of risk. Ensuring there are adequate short and longer term financial plans in place to deliver the strategy. Adhering to the highest standards of charity governance.

The skills and experience that the Board draw upon include:

• Anti-corruption expertise
• Government and business policy setting
• Legal / regulatory / financial / audit / risk
• Strategic international programming experience
• Fundraising / partnerships

• Ability to build constructive relationships and engage at all levels, with other trustees, the Senior Leadership Team and employees as opportunities arise
• Willingness to act in the best interests of the charity.

The skills and experience we are looking for contribute to the diversity of the Board as a whole. We recognise that no candidate will have all this expertise or qualities and that you may have had less opportunity to demonstrate them. Your application should highlight where you see yourself in terms of meeting the various elements.

Appointment

The term of office is for three years. Reappointment is for a maximum of three terms (nine years cumulative). Board members are eligible for appointment/re-appointment by the members of TI-UK at their AGM.

This is a voluntary, unpaid role but all reasonable expenses are paid. As the movement has Chapters in more than 100 other countries, we are only able to appoint individuals who are permanently resident in the UK. 

Time Commitment

• The Board meets at least four times a year generally between 12 noon and 5:30pm on a weekday
• A day-long Trustee and Senior Leadership Team Away Day occurs each year
• Meetings are scheduled a year in advance to ensure maximum attendance
• Papers are available electronically one week before each meeting
• Board members are expected to be a member of at least one Committee (Finance, Risk & Audit, Research, GTNI (global programmes), or Nominations & Governance) with these meeting at least two times a year during working hours.
• Additional time will be required to be on hand for advice on an ad hoc basis either to the Board or the Senior Leadership Team and to attend occasional events.

Face-to-face Board meetings of all Trustees are encouraged and these are held at the TI-UK office in central London. Trustees can be based outside of London and contribute virtually.

Trustees are invited to attend supporter engagement and fundraising events as well as learning events. 

What the role offers

We recognise that this role can help secure non-financial rewards including contributing to the charitable sector and providing the role holder with opportunities to grow and develop their leadership aspirations and to enhance confidence as a Board member/Trustee.

Experience

It is not necessary to have previous board or committee experience, although applicants should have regard to the role description above. Where learning and development support may be required this can be highlighted in the application process.

Specific sector experience of Anti-Corruption and Bribery is not essential.
