Our Organisation

Womankind Worldwide is a global women’s rights organisation working in partnership with women’s rights movements and organisations to transform the lives of women and girls. We strengthen and support women’s movements in our focus countries in Africa and Asia, and take collective action at regional and global levels, to ensure women’s voices are heard, their rights are realised, and their lives are free from violence. Womankind Worldwide is a UK registered charity.

Overall Purpose

The Finance and Resources Committee Member supports Womankind’s Honorary Treasurer and Board Members in relation to Finance, People and Culture, Risk and Resources, across jurisdictions.

The Finance & Resources Committee Member works alongside the Honorary Treasurer and other Committee members, bringing independent expertise, scrutiny and constructive challenge to help ensure Womankind remains financially sustainable, accountable, compliant and aligned with our feminist and anti-racist values.

The Finance & Resources Committee Member is not a member of Womankind’s Board of Trustees and does not carry trustee responsibilities.

Our Vision is: A world where all women, girls and people of all genders enjoy equal rights and freedoms and live with joy, choice and dignity.

Location: We are a Hybrid organisation and the Finance and Resources Committee meets online. We are registered in the UK and Kenya and have flexible working spaces for our mainly remote team in Nairobi and London.

Time commitment: The Finance & Resources Committee (FRC) meet 4 times per year. Members are expected to read papers in advance and may occasionally attend additional ad-hoc meetings with the Honorary Treasurer or Director of Finance, People & Culture. The estimated time commitment is 6-8 days per year.

Start Date: December 2026.

Duration: 3 years.

Salary: This is an unpaid voluntary position. Reasonable expenses/per diems for travel and subsistence whilst on Womankind business are reimbursable.

Support: The Finance & Resources Committee Member is supported by The Honorary Treasurer, fellow Finance & Resources Committee members and by a staff team comprising: Director Finance & People & Culture, Manager People, Culture & Wellbeing, Co-CEOs and Leadership Support Manager.

Specific Responsibilities

1. To contribute to the Finance & Resources Committee to fulfil its governance responsibilities.

• To work with the Honorary Treasurer in ensuring satisfactory systems and processes for holding monies or property in trust, for use in line with the organisation’s charitable objects.

• To work with the Honorary Treasurer to ensure that where appropriate monies are invested to the greatest benefit of Womankind, within the constraints of the law and ethical investment practices.

2. To ensure that Womankind Worldwide is meeting its obligations and that financial management is line with good practice.

• To work alongside the Honorary Treasurer in ensuring that Womankind operates within the legal and financial guidelines as set out in current legislation and its own policies in the UK and Kenya.

• To work with the Finance & Resources Committee on oversight of the following areas:

• ensuring that Womankind has adequate financial controls in place that are being practised and that the organisation operates within a sound financial framework.

• in management identifying financial risks and recommending appropriate action.

• ensuring appropriate reserves policy and management.

• financial implications and risks of Womankind’s strategy and policy objectives.

3. To provide oversight that Human Resources Policies are developed and delivered in line with organisational values, good practice and legislation in the UK and Kenya.

• To work with the Finance & Resources Committee on oversight of organisation human resources policy:

• ensuring that Womankind designs and implements human resources policies and procedures which are fit for purpose in relation to organisational strategy and values as well as relevant legislation.

• ensuring that terms & conditions are equitable across jurisdictions.

• holding management to account for timely development and review of policies appropriate to nature of the risk, in line with agreed schedules.

• to support identification of human resources risks and recommended actions.

4. To contribute to feminist and values-led governance

• To bring a feminist, anti-racist and power-conscious lens to financial, people and organisational decision-making.

• To consider how decisions about resources affect staff, partners and other stakeholders.

• To contribute to an inclusive governance culture grounded in accountability, transparency and collective decision-making.

Person Specification

Qualification and training

• Recognised full qualification in accounting and / or qualification by experience.

Experience and Knowledge

• Solid experience of leadership in relation to finance, human resources and risk management in organisations operating across multiple jurisdictions.

• Track record of facilitating and scrutinising development and delivery of finance and human resources strategies

• Excellent understanding of not-for-profit finance and relevant financial legislation in the UK

• Good understanding of international issues and the current challenges facing UK NGOs working internationally, including in relation to coloniality

Skills and Personal Attributes

• Leadership qualities with high integrity and ability to foster inclusive and collective decision making.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Rigour, impartiality, fairness and the ability to respect confidences.

• A willingness to speak one’s mind and to exercise independent judgement.

Ability to make the time commitment required to perform the functions of the role, including participating in meetings scheduled within office hours.

We are looking for Trustees who will help Walk the Plank to grow, thrive and succeed, contributing to our processes and thinking, challenging us and supporting our strategic direction, working alongside our Board, Senior Management Team to help deliver our vision. 

We're interested in people with experience in the areas of digital innovation and artistic practice, though we're equally open to a broader range of skills and backgrounds. What's involved 

• 4 Board meetings per year, held at Cobden Works or online 

• Approximate time commitment of 9 hours per year of meetings, plus reading / prep. Trustees are also encouraged to attend our annual Company Conference which happens once per year at Cobden Works, and to try to see some of our work each year.

• This is a voluntary role; any reasonable expenses are covered, and we can pay for access costs in addition, if required.

We are looking for Welcome volunteers to staff the welcome desk and be first point of contact for our visitors. Our volunteers play an important and valuable role in our cathedral community. Volunteering  can be a wonderful way to find a sense of purpose and belonging. You can use your skills, build your confidence and develop as part of a supportive and caring team. You’ll have the opportunity to work in an exciting and vibrant place of Christian worship, surrounded by beautiful architecture and our world-famous stained-glass windows.

Our volunteers come from a variety of backgrounds and each person has their own reasons for wanting to volunteer. We welcome applications from anyone interested in being a part of what we do, and will work with you to ensure that your volunteering experience is as inclusive and accessible as possible.

Our volunteers need to be sympathetic to our vision, mission and values, but you do not need to be a Christian to join our team.

Tasks include: 

· To greet visitors entering the cathedral and offer a first-class welcome

· To open positive conversations and demonstrate the welcoming nature of the cathedral

· To provide information and signpost as requested by the visitor, details and basic history of the cathedral, location of toilets etc.

DBS Check and Training to be completed / provided:

• Basic DBS check
• Basic Awareness and Foundation level safeguarding training.
• ACT Counter Terrorism training.
• In-house additional training as required.

Ensuring the safety of everyone who comes into the cathedral is Birmingham Cathedral Chapter’s highest priority. All volunteers must also complete our Safeguarding training before they can start working with us.

What this volunteering opportunity will provide you with:

• Knowledge of the international significance of the windows, the artists Edward Burne-Jones and William Morris and their links to Birmingham.
• Experience working with people from a diverse range of backgrounds.
• Insight into the workings of the cathedral, and experience working in a sacred building and place of faith.
• The opportunity to practice speaking in various foreign languages dependent on the nationality of visitors you encounter.
• Opportunities to volunteer in further roles in the cathedral team.
• Experience working alongside a team of skilled and knowledgeable individuals both clergy and non-clergy
• Safeguarding and ACT training (this is a requirement)

About The Role

Volunteers are integral for the running of Caerlaverock reserve, without their help we wouldn't be able to maintain this vast 1,400-acre wetland of international importance. You will join a small, friendly and motivated team and will benefit from volunteering by gaining experience, meeting like-minded people and making a difference by helping to maintain our important wetland. 

Managing a large wetland nature reserve requires a lot of practical, hands-on, physical tasks. With training and guidance, you will become part of our friendly dedicated reserve team. Your role will help support in all areas of practical reserve management - including maintaining habitats, biological monitoring, increasing species biodiversity, and ensuring the reserve and grounds look their best. 

Volunteers are an essential part of the WWT team, and we wouldn’t be able to maintain our internationally important wetland sites without their help. You will receive a very warm welcome, full induction & training, and be provided with any necessary equipment, uniforms, and anything else needed to thrive in your role.

Main Tasks

• Maintenance of visitor facilities including paths, hides, benches
• Assisting with practical reserve management including scrub clearance, pruning, pollarding and fencing
• Ensuring reserve water bodies are maintained and managed appropriately 
• Assisting in wildlife monitoring
• Operating machinery and hand tools safely and correctly to carry out habitat management
• Observing health & safety regulations at all times to ensure the safety, welfare, and enjoyment of everyone on site
• General visitor engagement
• Occasional assisting with management of livestock or visitor centre work
