Why Does Roots Academy Exist?

Crisis of Faith: 1 in 4 young Muslims are leaving the religion due to various factors, primarily the pervasive anti-religious content and temptations they encounter online and offline. 

Roots Academy exists to bridge this gap by providing a structured and transformative Islamic education that speaks directly to the needs and challenges of young Muslims today, delivered in an engaging and accessible form that removes barriers to access and provokes thought and action.

Role Summary.

To bring our vision to life, we are looking for a dedicated person to play a vital role in managing and strengthening our relationships with partner organisations (such as university Islamic Societies), with a focus on marketing and growth. You will work closely with external partners to increase the number of students attending Roots workshops through creative and innovative methods.

Key tasks

• Marketing Support - Provide guidance and resources to partners for marketing Roots workshops effectively, including sharing marketing collateral and leading growth initiatives.

• Performance Monitoring - Monitor the marketing efforts of partner organisations, track key performance metrics, and provide feedback and recommendations for improvement.

• Communication Liaison - Serve as the primary point of contact through social media between our organisation and partner organisations, facilitating clear and consistent communication channels.

• Training and Onboarding - Conduct training sessions and onboarding for new partner organisations to familiarise them with our brand guidelines, marketing strategies, and communication protocols.

• Collaboration - Coordinate cross-functional efforts with internal teams, such as marketing, design, and external partnerships, to ensure alignment with partnership goals.

As a charity we are able to help thousands of cats each year thanks to the generous donations we receive from members of the public. Our fundraising volunteers use their passion for cats and people to raise the vital funds needed to help more cats and kittens in need. As a fundraising volunteer we want to support you to fundraise in whatever way suits you best, whether that’s organising a fundraising event, fundraising online, promoting fundraising activities on social media, completing administration or supporting the development of new fundraising ideas! Whatever your skill set, this could be the role for you!

What we need from you

This is a really flexible role, you can choose what you’d like to get involved with, for example: 

• face-to-face fundraising. Organising or helping with fundraising events, running supermarket collections and fundraising stands, monitoring collection tins 

• online fundraising. Setting up online appeals and writing impactful cat case studies that maximise donations

• marketing. Spreading the word about our fundraising activities, for example on social media and with the local press  

• completing administration. Processing donations, sorting and recording donated goods, completing Gift Aid paperwork

● championing our work. Getting involved with developing new fundraising ideas and increasing community engagement

● photography. Capturing images of cats in care, cats we are helping, events and all things Cats Protection

Time expectation

This is a flexible role that can fit around your other commitments to suit you. You’ll be part of a team raising vital funds while having fun in the process!

Based in Newtown, Powys, Rekindle is a vibrant and committed charity, providing mental health support to young people aged between 16 and 25 years, in Mid Wales and the Shropshire Borders. As Chair, you’ll play a key role in shaping Rekindle’s future and building on the momentum of recent successes.

What will you be doing?

As Chair of the Board of Trustees, you will be responsible for ensuring that the charity trustee board functions effectively, meetings are led inclusively, and the board carries out its duties. You will lead the board in governing itself well, setting the strategic direction of the charity, creating a positive culture within the charity and holding staff accountable. You will monitor the agreed actions from board meetings to ensure that decisions are implemented properly and in a timely manner and build a strong, positive and respectful relationship with staff, volunteers, beneficiaries and other stakeholders. You will also act as an ambassador for the charity, representing its interests and values to stakeholders.

Time commitment

• 4 board meetings per year, plus minimum 16 hours per month (to be reviewed annually)
• There may be additional time commitment required however there is no fixed requirement as we appreciate that each Board member has different amounts of time they are able to offer
• Ideally the Chair will be local to the charity.

 What are we looking for?

We are looking for an individual with a natural leadership style that is inclusive and collaborative. Rekindle is about to embark on some restructuring of its managerial tier; this will be with the help of Pilot Light and their 360 programme, and we would like the new Chair to be a part of this ideally.

Rekindle is currently developing a Youth Advisory Board that will consult and advise with the Board of Trustees once established, and so experience of this, although not essential, would be welcome.

Skills and experience:

• Demonstrable experience in leadership roles.
• Previous experience serving on a Board of Trustees.
• Ability to think strategically and drive organizational growth and impact.
• Experience in supporting and developing organizational strategy.
• 5-15 years of experience in governance and financial oversight.
• Must be located in commutable distance to Newtown, Powys.
• Experience in chairing meetings and creating an inclusive environment.
• Passionate about mental health, wellbeing and young people.

Grant Prospecting Coordinator (Excel and Research)

Time commitment: 3 to 4 hours per week
Location: Remote, UK-based (with fortnightly online team check-ins)

About the role

We are looking for a friendly, organised, and committed volunteer to support our Fundraising Team by prospecting grant opportunities. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys research, reading funder guidelines, and working with data.

You will take the lead in helping us make smart use of our time by identifying which grants in our existing database are the best match for our work and where we are most likely to be eligible.

This is a prospecting management role only. You will not be asked to write grant applications.

What you will do

• Work through a complex Excel-based grants database and assess opportunities against our charity’s aims and activities
• Read funder criteria, eligibility rules, and guidance notes to decide whether a grant is a good fit and discuss it with our Fundraising Coordinator.
• Shortlist suitable grants and record your findings clearly in the spreadsheet (notes, deadlines, key requirements)
• Flag any missing information and help keep the grants Pipeline tidy and consistent
• Share weekly or fortnightly updates with the Fundraising Team
• Guide the Fundraising Team to understand which opportunities must be prioritised

What we are looking for

Essential

• Excellent Excel skills (confident using filters, sorting, data validation, working and finding data in structured and complex spreadsheets)
• Strong attention to detail and an analytical mindset
• Enjoys research and reading specifications carefully
• Able to make clear, evidence-based judgements about eligibility and fit
• Reliable and able to commit 3 to 4 hours per week on an ongoing basis
• Good written communication for concise spreadsheet notes and updates

Desirable

• Experience in charity fundraising, grant research, or prospecting
• Comfortable working independently and meeting agreed deadlines
• Interest in our mission and values

Eligibility

Because this role involves supporting a UK charity and working with our internal systems and processes, we can only accept applications from people who are currently based in the UK and have the right to volunteer in the UK. Unfortunately, we are not able to consider applicants living outside the UK at this time.

Time commitment and expectations

We value flexibility, but we also need continuity. We are looking for someone who can make a regular weekly commitment and communicate clearly if they need to change their availability.

Role Summary.

As a QA Reviewer at Roots Academy, you'll work closely with Regional Leads and the QA team to help maintain and raise the quality of teaching across our programmes. Your role is to support our instructors by regularly observing lessons, offering constructive feedback, and encouraging their continued growth and development.

Your input will help ensure that students benefit from lessons that are clear, engaging, and rooted in sound educational practice.

Key tasks

· Observe lessons via site visits or submitted video recordings throughout the semester.

· Use standardised forms to assess lesson quality and highlight key strengths and areas that could be improved.

· Offer honest and practical feedback, using real examples to guide instructors toward better practice.

· Work alongside Regional Leads to deliver feedback at set points in the semester and support instructor development conversations.

· Attend feedback meetings and take notes to track progress and follow-up actions.

· Recommend helpful activities for instructors, such as shadowing experienced colleagues, team teaching, or reviewing their own lessons.

· Keep track of instructors needing additional support by scheduling follow-up visits or reviewing new lesson recordings.

· Make sure feedback is received, understood, and followed up with clear next steps.

· Raise any serious concerns or ongoing issues with the Regional Lead or relevant team members.

What we’re looking for

· Background in teaching, mentoring, or classroom observation.

· A supportive but honest approach to giving feedback.

· Good understanding of what makes a lesson effective and engaging.

· Confident communicator with good organisation skills.

· Able to work both independently and as part of a wider team.

The Social Supermarket Initiative (SSI) is a community-led social enterprise tackling food insecurity and promoting sustainable community growth through our affordable supermarket model, outreach programmes, and ethical partnerships. We are seeking a Volunteer Fundraising Officer to support SSI’s financial sustainability and growth. This role will focus on securing funding through grant writing, donor engagement, and community fundraising initiatives, ensuring SSI can continue delivering its mission and expanding its social impact.

Key Responsibilities

• Identify, research, and pursue grant opportunities, donor funding, and community fundraising streams.

• Develop high-quality, persuasive, and compliant funding proposals and applications.

• Maintain SSI’s funding tracker, calendar, and reporting systems.

• Build and maintain relationships with funders, local partners, and community stakeholders.

• Support outcome and impact reporting to funders and the board.

• Contribute to SSI’s fundraising strategy and advise on opportunities for growth.

At Cats Protection we help thousands of cats and kittens each year thanks to our dedicated and passionate volunteer groups. We have branches across the UK, all of which help our cats in different ways. Branches take in stray and abandoned cats and ensure they receive the veterinary care and attention they deserve; help raise funds, promote neutering and help spread cat welfare messages. Our branch team leader volunteers lead their local team by supporting and managing volunteers within their group, maintaining communications with both volunteers and employees, and helping promote a positive and professional image of Cats Protection.

A bit more information about this role and the team

Winchester and District Cats Protection is a long-standing branch whose volunteer numbers have dwindled, reducing their activity level.  We are rebuilding the team and are looking for an energetic Branch Team Leader to coordinate the branch’s activities, working with existing volunteers and supporting new ones as we expand.  Our ideal candidate of course must be a cat lover, but should also have excellent people skills and be able to communicate effectively with people from a variety of backgrounds.  Although cat welfare experience is preferable, this is not as important as management skills and the enthusiasm to get stuck into something new.  Full training and support will be provided. 

What we need from you

You’ll be:

• Supporting your team of volunteers in all aspects of their roles, making sure volunteers are happy and confident
• Making sure the team observes charity best practice and compliance
• Collaborating with your Branch Development Manager (BDM) to plan volunteer activity
• Leading the team to follow Cats Protection policies, procedures and guidelines
• Monitoring expenditure and helping ensure long term financial stability of the volunteer group
• Organising and chairing team meetings
• Acting as an ambassador for Cats Protection

Time expectation

Our branch team leader volunteers usually spend 10 to 15 hours per week in this role, which is flexible and can be shared by more than one volunteer if needed. There will be times of year when more hours are required, such as towards the end of the financial year, but support and guidance are available.

Our partner is delivering specialist services and long-term support to people affected by conflict, displacement and severe adversity. Through direct programmes, partnerships and systems-level work, they help individuals rebuild their lives and strengthen community-based support structures.

The organisation is now undertaking a major upgrade of its finance function, as its current Sage 50 and Excel-based system is no longer fit for purpose. They are seeking pro bono support to help select and prepare for the implementation of a modern, efficient accounting system that will strengthen controls, reduce manual processing and improve management reporting.

They are looking for an experienced finance professional to work alongside their finance team in a phased engagement, providing both strategic guidance and practical support. The initial phase will focus on clarifying what a “good” future system looks like, defining functional and reporting requirements, preparing for conversations with software providers, and assessing data readiness and migration strategy. Depending on skills, availability and progress, this may then extend into hands-on support with implementation and migration activity.

Key areas of support include:

• Clarifying future finance system requirements and what “good” looks like for the organisation
• Supporting preparation for conversations with accounting software providers
• Reviewing data quality, chart of accounts and readiness for migration
• Sense-checking the proposed implementation approach and project plan
• Supporting development of efficient accounts payable, bank reconciliation and reporting processes
• Advising on integrations, automation and data flows (e.g. bank, CRM, reporting tools)
• Coaching and mentoring finance staff to ensure skills are embedded

The volunteer will work closely with the finance systems project team, led internally by a member of the finance team.

Profile

The ideal volunteer will be a finance professional with strong experience in day-to-day accounting processes and finance systems. They should have worked at a practical level with accounting software and understand what good controls, reconciliations and reporting look like. Experience of system selection, data migration, integrations or automation would be highly valuable, as would a coaching and mentoring mindset. This role would suit someone who enjoys combining hands-on delivery with advisory support.

Time commitment

The assignment will be delivered remotely over an initial three-month period, requiring approximately 2–5 hours per week, with the option to extend depending on progress and mutual availability. The start date is ASAP.
