Job description

WE’RE RECRUITING A CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER (VOLUNTEER ROLE)

Help Us Build, Launch & Run a Charity That Brings Light to London

Hey you — yes, you, the organised, big‑hearted human who loves turning ideas into reality and making things run smoothly.

SUNSHINE Charity is growing, glowing, and getting ready for launch… and we’re looking for a brilliant Chief Operating Officer to help build the foundations of a charity that will change lives across London.

If you love people, love purpose, and love the idea of helping a brand‑new charity come to life, this might be your moment.

Who Are We?

We’re SUNSHINE Charity, a brand‑new grassroots charity working to reduce loneliness and help people feel more connected: through projects, partnerships, and community support.

We’re a start‑up on a mission to bring connection, joy, confidence and belonging back into people’s lives. We create warm, uplifting, community‑based activities that help people step out of isolation and into a world where they feel seen, heard, valued and supported.

We’re all about:

  • Human connection

  • Positive role models

  • Fun, interactive activities

  • Confidence‑building experiences

  • Community, belonging, and joy

And we want our operations to feel just as strong, safe and sunshine‑filled as our programmes.

Your Role: Chief Operating Officer (COO)

This isn’t just any volunteer role — this is your chance to help build a charity from the ground up.

As our COO, you’ll work closely with the CEO to set up, launch and manage the day‑to‑day operations of SUNSHINE. You’ll help create the systems, structures and processes that keep the charity running smoothly, safely and joyfully.

You’ll be the organiser, the planner, the steady hand, the “let’s make this happen” energy behind the scenes.

What You’ll Be Doing

You’ll help us build a strong, well‑run charity by:

  • Supporting the CEO with the set‑up and launch of SUNSHINE.

  • Developing operational systems, processes and policies.

  • Helping manage the day‑to‑day running of the charity.

  • Coordinating volunteers, teams and internal communication.

  • Ensuring our work is safe, compliant and well‑organised.

  • Supporting programme delivery and organisational planning.

  • Helping shape our internal culture, values and ways of working.

  • Bringing fresh ideas to the table (we LOVE ideas).

  • Being a calm, friendly, reliable presence as we grow.

You don’t need to be a seasoned COO — just someone who is organised, proactive, and excited to help build something meaningful.

Who You Are

You might be perfect for this if you’re:

  • A natural organiser who loves structure and clarity

  • Someone who enjoys planning, systems and problem‑solving

  • A warm, positive communicator

  • Passionate about community, wellbeing and human connection

  • Excited to help build a charity from scratch

  • Happy to roll up your sleeves and get stuck in

  • Someone who believes in kindness, joy and belonging

If you’ve ever thought “I’d love to help run a charity behind the scenes”… this is your chance.

What You’ll Get Out of It

  • A meaningful leadership role in a brand‑new charity.

  • Real experience in operations, management and organisational development.

  • A supportive, friendly, uplifting team.

  • The chance to shape the foundations of SUNSHINE.

  • New skills, new confidence, new connections.

  • The joy of knowing you’re helping people feel less alone.

  • That warm “I helped build something beautiful today” feeling.

Ready to Bring the Sunshine?

If your heart is saying “YES”, we’d love to hear from you.

Come help us build a charity that’s strong, safe, joyful and ready to shine across London.

  • Join us.
  • Grow with us.
  • Shine with us.

SUNSHINE Charity

Because everyone deserves a little light in their life.
