We’re looking for a Treasurer to provide financial leadership to our charity that supports the VCSE (Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise) sector in Wakefield District through high-impact contracts and grant making.
Nova is a charity that works with charities, community groups and social enterprises to help them thrive and continue their important work across the District. We do this by:
- Providing free specialist support on development and growth
- Ensuring the VCSE sector has a voice in decision-making
- Securing resources and funding for the VCSE sector
We have several opportunities open to join our Board of Trustees, including a Treasurer.
The Treasurer works closely with the Board, CEO, Finance Manager, and accountant to ensure our organisation’s finances are well-managed, transparent, and aligned with strategic goals. This involves:
- Guiding financial decisions
- Helping the Board understand and act on financial information
- Contributing to planning for the future, including budgets, reserves and exploring new incomes streams and enterprising approaches to strengthen Nova’s financial resilience
While previous experience as a Treasurer or Trustee is welcomed, it’s not essential. What matters most is commitment to Nova’s values, financial integrity, and supporting the VCSE sector.
As a trustee, you’ll have:

We are looking for individuals with specific skills to join our trustee board who are passionate about creating a more inclusive, resilient, and sustainable future through science and creative experiences.
Following a prolonged closure due to Covid and then a fire in our venue, We The Curious reopened to the public in July of 2024. One year later we have newfound opportunities and challenges ahead and we need people with fresh perspectives and particular skills to help us continue to grow.
Finance – we are looking someone who is a chartered accountant and who has financial experience and expertise that they can bring to our board, as well as our Finance & Risk Assurance Committee
Legal – we are looking for a qualified lawyer to bring strategic legal and compliance expertise to our board and our Finance and Risk Assurance Committee.
Fundraising – we are looking for someone with fundraising and development experience to join our board, and either our Purpose or Finance and Risk Assurance Committee.
Education – we are looking for someone with experience in primary or secondary education

Trustees have overall control of a charity and are responsible for making sure it’s doing what it was set up to do. They may be known by other titles, such as: Directors, board members, governors, committee members
Whatever they are called, trustees are the people who work with our experienced leadership team to provide support, encouragement, challenge when needed and help to decide how the charity is run. Being a trustee means making decisions that will impact on people’s lives. As part of the board of trustees at We the Curious you will be making a difference to the community in Bristol and the surrounding area and helping us to connect and empower people through science. Trustees use their skills and experience to support their charities, helping them achieve their aims. Trustees also often learn new skills during their time on the board.

What will you do in this role?
As a trustee you will provide advice, knowledge and support to the leadership team at We The Curious.
With the steer of the Chair, the board of trustees ensures we pursue our purpose responsibly, are compliant with our governing documents, charity law and other relevant legislation. The board will review and advise on best practice and appropriate policies and procedures and uphold excellent governance.
Below are some of the key areas of work generally as a trustee.
As a trustee you will:

All Trustees should use their specific skills, knowledge or experience to help the Board of Trustees reach informed decisions in the best interest of We The Curious.
This will involve scrutinising Board papers, leading discussion and providing guidance as requested by the Board on new initiatives or other issues relevant to the area of our work in which the trustee has expertise.
Finance - as a trustee with strategic financial experience you will:
_Help to provide financial oversight for the charity, ensuring resources are used, invested and spent in line with legal requirements
_Ensure the charity complies with charity law and financial governance requirements
_Advise the board and leadership team on when to seek external financial advice for complex matters
_Join our finance and risk assurance committee and regularly monitor the management accounts and financial reporting with a view to becoming chair of the committee
We are looking for qualified accountants with practical up-to-date knowledge of management accounting principles, financial reporting and charity finances, analytical skills and strategic thinking.
Legal - as a trustee with legal expertise you will:
_Contribute strategic advice to the board on the legal implications of our plans and initiatives
_Advise the board and leadership team on when to seek external legal advice for complex matters
_Ensure the charity complies with its governing document, charity law and other relevant legislation
_Join our finance and risk assurance committee and work to manage any legal risks, ensuring policies and procedures align with best legal practices
We are looking for qualified lawyers with strong knowledge of company and charity law, analytical skills and strategic thinking.
Fundraising - as a trustee with fundraising and development expertise you will:
_Contribute strategic advice to the board around fundraising and development strategy
_Advise the board and leadership team on potential funding streams
_Join either our finance and risk assurance committee or our purpose committee
We are looking for people with strong background in fundraising and strategic thinking.
Education - as a trustee with primary or secondary education expertise you will:
_Contribute strategic advice to the board around education of school aged children (key stages 1 to 4)
_Advise the board and leadership team on issues around education – which could include curriculum and traditional education, alternative education, CME or SEND provision
_Join either our finance and risk assurance committee or our purpose committee
We are looking for people who are passionate and knowledgeable around the education of young people and share our commitment to equitable education for all.
Time commitment
_We hold quarterly board meetings, typically from 4pm to 7pm. Trustees are expected to attend and contribute to all meetings either in person or by joining virtually.
_Papers for the board meetings are sent one week prior and from time-to-time will include specific asks or requests for information and input from trustees.
_ You will also be asked to take part in one of our quarterly committee meetings which take place virtually two weeks prior to the board meeting, typically from 4pm to 6pm.
_We hold one annual board away day, typically from 10am to 5pm which takes place in person.
_ Board Meetings are located at the We The Curious offices within the science centre in central Bristol, and our away days take place at an alternate venue in Bristol once a year.
_ You may also be called upon for advice or assistance by the leadership team, for example to give input on areas related to your specialism, attend additional meetings or to be present at We The Curious events.
Remuneration
This is a voluntary role. Reasonable travel expenses will be covered. Refreshments are provided at Board meetings and lunch is provided at the annual strategy away day.

Terms of appointment
_Trustees are appointed to an initial three-year term of service (including a 12-month probationary period).
_Trustees can serve a maximum of six years with a reappointment after the first term of three years unless the trustee holds an office, such as Chair or Deputy Chair, in which case they would be eligible for a further three-year term. The maximum term of office is nine years.

Supporting you
Training
If you join the board, you will have an induction and onboarding experience to support you with your role and get you connected with the rest of the organisation.
If you are a first-time trustee or want a refresher, we will provide you with training on good governance and other topics related to your role. We will also provide you with mentorship from other members of the board.

Chair Role & Responsibilities
SHF aims to work in a proactive and collaborative manner, and the Chair will play an important part in setting the tone and bringing all the stakeholders together. We are looking for someone who has considerable experience of leadership at an executive or board level in the charity or corporate sector and has an understanding of the modern slavery sector.
The people that we work with come from all over the world and have a wide variety of beliefs, experiences and backgrounds. Governance and Culture
- Provide leadership and oversight to the board and executive team on strategy, governance and risk, ensuring that we meet our obligations and responsibilities, including but not limited to governance structures, financial responsibilities, ethos and charity law.
- Ensure that the charity is acting in accordance with its constitution and uses its resources responsibly and exclusively to further its charity objects.

Board Effectiveness
- Facilitate and guide conversations in a way that enables constructive discussion, draws out diverse perspectives and supports informed, shared decision-making.
- Encourage full participation from all trustees, recognising and valuing different skills, identities and lived experiences.
- Work with the Chief Executive and committee Chairs to ensure that board meetings are well planned with agendas that reflect the priorities of SHF and the responsibilities of the trustees.
- Meet as appropriate with the treasurer and Chairs of any board committees.
- Build strong, respectful working relationships between trustees, addressing challenges or conflict with openness and fairness.
- Model and promote a positive and collaborative board culture based on mutual respect rooted in SHF’s values and an appropriate balance of support and challenge
Advocacy and Strategic Development
- Work with the CEO and trustees to strengthen understanding of modern slavery issues, build recognition of the impact of our programmes and influence key decision makers.
- Support the CEO when required to strengthen SHF’s advocacy impact.
- Ensure our strategy is ambitious and financially sustainable and that risks are identified and effectively managed by the executive.
- Bring strategic and planning expertise to the process of ongoing evaluation and refreshment of the strategy.
Development/Fundraising:
- Act as an ambassador for SHF by raising its profile through your networks.
- Build, maintain and develop partnerships which reflect our values and directly benefit our mission.
- Play an active role in supporting the executive to reach its revenue goals.
CEO Mentor and Constructive Friend to the Managing Executive
- Provide a supportive, confidential space for the CEO as a sounding board and constructive friend.
- Build a strong working relationship with the CEO to maintain an overview of SHF’s affairs, to support as necessary the management of sensitive, complex or contentious issues and, where appropriate, provide constructive challenge to the CEO.
- Build a strong working relationship with the executive, offering constructive advice and support whilst maintaining the boundary between the operational decisionmaking of the executive and governance oversight of the Board.
- Lead the annual appraisal for the CEO in line with SHF’s appraisal process and in consultation with other trustees. Ensure that any identified professional development needs are put in place.
Safeguarding Ensure that:
- A Safeguarding Policy and Procedure is in place, is reviewed as least annually and is available to and understood/applied by staff.
- A culture of safeguarding is championed, where wellbeing and psychological safety is prioritised and staff, volunteers and people with lived experience can raise concerns without fear of judgement or reprisal.
- There is a staff Code of Conduct and policies such as Speaking Out (formally Whistleblowing) and Safer Recruitment are in place.
- Safeguarding concerns are managed effectively; there are systems in place for its management; safeguarding resources including training; a DSL is appointed whose role is stated in their job description.
- Regular feedback on safeguarding activity is received (such as gaps, threats, risks), oversee a risk register and the remedial actions required and the track progress.
- Chair of Trustees undertakes enquiries in the event of an allegation being made against the CEO
- Compliance with the Charity Commission serious incident notification requirements, and other bodies such as regulators, commissioners, grant makers, and insurance companies

We are looking for new charity trustees to join our board and provide strong governance for Energise Me. Contribute to a great cause, develop your skills, build your professional network and gain strategic experience.

Energise Me trustees meet four times a year in central Winchester, or virtually, for board meetings. Those with a particular interest or skill may also be invited to join committees or action groups that support particular areas of work, such as Finance, Audit and Risk.

The Safeguarding Trustee provides strategic leadership and assurance on all aspects of safeguarding across GFS. They ensure that the Board of Trustees fulfils its collective duty to protect all children, young people, and adults at risk who come into contact with GFS’s activities. Working closely with the Chair, CEO, and Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSL), this trustee champions a proactive safeguarding culture built on trust, transparency, and accountability. Key Responsibilities:
- Ensuring that the values and mission of GFS are upheld in all of the decisions and decision-making processes of the Board.
- Contributing actively to the Board’s discussions on the strategic plans for GFS and supporting the Leadership Team to implement them.
- Lead the Board’s responsibility for safeguarding and ensure statutory and regulatory obligations are met.
- Review, approve, and monitor safeguarding policies, ensuring they are updated regularly and effectively implemented.
- Provide assurance that safeguarding risks are identified, managed, and escalated appropriately.
- Offer informed scrutiny and constructive challenge to ensure safeguarding remains a strategic priority.
- Receive regular updates from the DSL and senior leadership, and report key issues and learning to the Board.
- Promote awareness, understanding, and accountability for safeguarding across the organisation, including among volunteers and trustees.
- Keep up to date with safeguarding developments, legislation, and best practice in the charity and youth sectors.
- Act as a visible ambassador for safeguarding, attending relevant committees, events, or training sessions as required.
Time Committment
- Board Members serve an initial three-year term and are eligible for reappointment for an additional term.
- Three Virtual Board meetings and an in person in either in Central London or a central city (meetings are currently held on Saturdays).
- Occasional strategy days, workshops or working groups. Quarterly Sub - Committee membership depending on skills and capacity.

Join Taunton Brewhouse Board as Finance Trustee, develop skills in charity finance and support us in bringing entertainment and culture to our community.
Having grown substantially over the past 12 years, we are moving into a new era of development. This includes and celebrates the 50th anniversary of the founding of the theatre which takes place in 2027.
Our current Trustee for Finance retires shortly, and we seek a new Finance/Director to take forward this key area.
As Trustee responsible for Finance, you will have specific responsibilities for
- providing financial guidance to the Board on matters put before it
- chairing quarterly meeting of the F&GP Committee
- oversight of financial management through monthly meetings with senior finance team
- liasing with professional advisers as necessary

YES is seeking a Trustee Treasurer to join our Board and provide strategic financial
oversight, supporting the charity’s sustainability and continued impact for children and
young people’s mental health and wellbeing.
As a Trustee, you will share collective responsibility for governance and strategic
direction. As Treasurer, you will act as the Board’s lead for finance, offering informed
oversight, guidance, and constructive challenge, drawing on your professional finance
or accountancy experience.

Previous trustee or charity sector experience is welcome but not essential.

The Board are principally accountable to members of TI-UK, the Charity Commission and the TI movement and they also ensure that the activities of the charitable company meet public benefit expectations. Appointment
The term of office is for three years. Reappointment is for a maximum of three terms (nine years cumulative). Board members are eligible for appointment/re-appointment by the members of TI-UK at their AGM.
This is a voluntary, unpaid role but all reasonable expenses are paid. As the movement has Chapters in more than 100 other countries, we are only able to appoint individuals who are permanently resident in the UK.
Time Commitment
- The Board meets at least four times a year generally between 12 noon and 5:30pm on a weekday
- A day-long Trustee and Senior Leadership Team Away Day occurs each year
- Meetings are scheduled a year in advance to ensure maximum attendance
- Papers are available electronically one week before each meeting
- Board members are expected to be a member of at least one Committee (Finance, Risk & Audit, Research, GTNI (global programmes), or Nominations & Governance) with these meeting at least two times a year during working hours.
- Additional time will be required to be on hand for advice on an ad hoc basis either to the Board or the Senior Leadership Team and to attend occasional events.
Face-to-face Board meetings of all Trustees are encouraged and these are held at the TI-UK office in central London. Trustees can be based outside of London and contribute virtually.

1. Background
ActionAid’s Red and Orange Alert protocols are designed to guide communications in humanitarian emergencies, ensuring timely, accurate, and coordinated outputs across the global federation. These protocols play a critical role in mobilising public attention, fundraising, and shaping narratives. However, questions have emerged around efficiency, resourcing, wellbeing, integration with wider organisational work, and alignment with ActionAid UK’s 2025–2028 strategy and ActionAid’s international strategic framework (SIF 3).
This review will assess the current Red and Orange Alert communications protocols, identify strengths, challenges and key successes, and recommend revisions to strengthen their effectiveness, sustainability, and alignment with organisational priorities.
2. Objectives
- Review the existing Red and Orange Alert communications protocols to assess their relevance, effectiveness, and unintended consequences.
- Make recommendations for a revised protocol, including clearer structures for delegated authority, risk/crisis communications, staff wellbeing, and integration with wider organisational priorities.
3. Scope of work
ActionAid is looking for a qualified consultant or company to undertake a review of ActionAid’s communications work in humanitarian emergencies
The review will:
- Use our existing Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) as a starting point.
- Examine how ActionAid's existing “Red and Orange” Alert protocols function in practice across ActionAid UK and the Global Secretariat.
- Assess the resources required to activate alerts, including staff time, budget, and outputs, and analyse the value generated for the organisation particularly against ActionAid UK’s new strategy and SIF 3.
- Explore the unintended consequences of the protocols, including:
- Impact on staff wellbeing and risk of burnout.
- The extent to which Red Alerts are siloed or disconnected from other organisational priorities.
- Investigate gaps in managing reputational risk during highly volatile and politicised humanitarian crises
- Who is responsible for risk and how is authority currently delegated
- What processes currently exist.
- What risks does AAUK face, internally and externally
- Recommendations for a clear and sustainable reputational risk framework
4. Methodology
The review team will:
- Gain an understanding of AA's wider organisational work, to ensure the reviews alignment with ActionAid UK’s 2025–2028 strategy and ActionAid’s international strategic framework (SIF 3).
- Conduct document analysis of the existing MOU, alert protocols, and sample case studies of recent alerts.
- Carry out interviews or focus groups with key stakeholders, including:
- ActionAid UK Red Alert staff.
- Global Secretariat Orange Alert staff.
- Fundraising colleagues.
- Other relevant ActionAid staff who engage in emergency communications.
- Collect and analyse data on staff time, budget allocations, outputs, and outcomes linked to past alerts.
- Synthesize findings into a diagnostic report with recommendations.

Key Responsibilities:
- Governance and Strategic Direction: Trustees set the charity's strategic aims and direction, plan and review its work, and make decisions about its activities and resources.
- Financial Oversight: Trustees are responsible for the charity's finances, ensuring they are managed responsibly and used to support the charity's purposes.
- Compliance and Legal Duties: Trustees ensure the charity complies with its governing document, relevant laws, and regulations.
- Accountability: Trustees are accountable to donors, regulators, beneficiaries, and the public, ensuring the charity is transparent and operates ethically.
- Safeguarding: Trustees are responsible for ensuring the charity has appropriate safeguarding policies and procedures in place to protect vulnerable individuals.
- Risk Management: Trustees must identify and manage potential risks to the charity, including financial, reputational, and operational risks.
