Cambridge Nightline is a confidential and anonymous listening service run by students, for students.  We have been providing peer-to-peer support to students at the University of Cambridge and Anglia Ruskin University for over 50 years.  We offer support via telephone and instant messaging (IM), and open at night when other support services are often closed.

Cambridge Nightline has recently appointed a Board of Trustees, and is working towards becoming a registered charity.  Our aim as Trustees is to provide oversight and guidance to the student Executive Committee, whilst supporting them as much as possible to continue to lead the direction of the service.

We are now seeking a voluntary Treasurer to join the Board of Trustees.

Role of Treasurer of the Board

The Treasurer of the Board of Trustees will take the lead at board level in assuming responsibility for the financial oversight of Cambridge Nightline.  You will work alongside the Board of Trustees and student Executive Committee in reviewing the organisation’s financial performance to ensure its finances are managed responsibly, in accordance with the objects of the organisation and with legal requirements.

The Treasurer of the Board will work closely with the Student Treasurer to oversee the budget and financial administration, and to ensure the sustainability of the organisation’s funding and reserves.  As Cambridge Nightline works towards becoming a registered charity, you will provide advice and guidance to the Board of Trustees to ensure financial compliance with charity law.

Independent Visitor Volunteer

Our Independent Visitor Volunteers provide consistent and supportive relationships to children and young people in care, offering emotional support, companionship, and guidance through shared activities and time together.  The Independent Visitor plays a vital role in helping the young people build confidence and feel secure while enhancing their personal, social, and cultural development.

As an Independent Visitor Volunteer in England, you might:

• support the child/young person to experience enriching activities that contribute to their personal and cultural development 
• engage in activities such as pursuing hobbies, meeting for meals, or socialising in a community setting 
• listen to and support the young person, fostering a sense of safety and trust 
• help the young person develop social skills and increase their involvement in their community 
• develop a positive and lasting relationship, ensuring the young person feels valued and supported

You will need to be over 18 years old and be living in the UK. Please note that the Independent Visitor Volunteers generally volunteer at evening and weekends due to the children’s and young person’s availability.

Role Purpose
To support refugees and asylum seekers in developing their English language skills (ESOL – English for Speakers of Other Languages), helping them to build confidence, integrate into the community, and access education, employment, and essential services.

Key Responsibilities

· Assist in delivering ESOL classes to adult learners at varying levels of English proficiency

· Support learners one-to-one or in small groups with speaking, listening, reading, and writing

· Help prepare learning materials and classroom activities

· Encourage participation and build learners’ confidence in using English in everyday situations

· Provide informal conversational practice and support

The Branch Chair role is vital to the running of the branch as they act as a leader and a coordinator for the branch. Without these roles, we would not have as many branches as we do.

What you will be doing

• Planning, arranging, and chairing committee meetings and public meetings.
• Along with other committee members, representing the branch at external meetings e.g. with local services for autistic people.
• Delegating tasks to other committee members or volunteers
• Raising the profile of the NAS within your branch and local community.
• Ensuring your branch complies with NAS policies including risk assessment, data protection and safeguarding
• Monitoring branch income and expenditure in partnership with the treasurer and authorising branch payments
• Supporting fundraising in your branch
• Co-ordinating and promoting local campaigns and bringing others on board to help you
• Keeping your Senior Branch Engagement Officer informed about branch activities and events
• Overseeing the moderation of the branch online support group / forum
• Liaising with newsletter editor on contents and production of bi-monthly newsletter
• Motivating the team involved in running your branch
• Trying to resolve any difficulties experienced by your branch

Transport Support Volunteer

Watford and Three Refugees Partnership is a charity offering practical and emotional support to asylum seekers, migrants and refugees in Watford and Three Rivers. We are looking for a team of volunteers who have time to support our clients in the community.

Would you like to join a team within our charity that provides more practical support to our clients?

Some examples of support includes;

· Helping with house moves

· Collecting furniture that is being donated and drop off at client’s homes

· Lifts to attend appointments if the client struggles using public transport

You must have access to your own vehicle. You will work as part of a supportive team and it can fit around work and caring commitments. You will be able to claim mileage at 45p per mile and parking costs as expenses. We will need proof that your driving documents are up to date, including informing your insurance that you are using your car for ‘business’ purposes (usually at no extra cost).

Job description

What is the befriending service?

• The Befriending Service links volunteers 1:1 with a disabled child/young person.
• Links are based on shared interests and activities, which you can enjoy doing together, either in the young person’s home or out in the community.

What experience do I need?

• You do not need any previous experience with disabled children or young people
• We ask that you are friendly, caring, reliable and able to make a commitment to visit a young person regularly.

What will I be doing?

You will volunteer within WECIL’s befriending service for disabled children/young people and their families. This involves:

• Spending time regularly with a disabled child or young person in their home or their local community.
• You will not be asked to administer medication or deliver personal care in this role.

Who am I responsible for?

• You are responsible for the safety and wellbeing of the child or young person you are linked with.
• All links are risk-assessed and carefully monitored by your Coordinator.

How often will I be needed?

• We typically ask for volunteers to commit to 1-4 hours a week
• The days / times are agreed between the volunteer and the family.
• We ask for a minimum commitment of 6 months to ensure the child and their family are able to benefit fully from the relationship.

What about expenses?

• Volunteer travel expenses can be reimbursed on receipt of a claim form. You won’t be left out of pocket.

Time2Share@WECIL is committed to the safeguarding and welfare of children and young people and expects its staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Our first priority is to ensure the safety of the children we support. 

Unfortunatly we are unable to provide visa sponsorship for this role. 

Perinatal Support Volunteers provide one-to-one support to parents during pregnancy and up to nine months after the birth. These parents either have mental health issues or are at risk of developing them.

Perinatal Support Volunteers visit these families once a week (usually weekdays during working hours) for 2-3 hours, providing emotional support and practical help in the family’s home or local community. Support is aimed at empowering parents and building resilience beyond the support period.

The type of support Perinatal Support Volunteers provide to parents may include:

• An empathetic and non-judgemental listening ear
• Support to prepare for parenthood
• Support to build confidence in parenting skills
• Support to develop a positive relationship with their infant
• Support to establish daily and weekly routines
• Support to take time for self-care
• Support to manage the things that are causing stress
• Support to access relevant services
• Support to access local green spaces
• Support to make connections with other parents

No special qualifications are necessary to become a Perinatal Support Volunteer, but Home-Start volunteers are usually either parents or grandparents themselves, or people with experience of young children and family life. We particularly welcome volunteers with lived experience of perinatal mental health challenges.

About the role

Location: Bristol

Hours: 2 hours per week

As a Volunteer Group Facilitator, you will play an important role in supporting group sessions and workshops. You will help create a welcoming, inclusive, and comfortable environment where everyone feels valued and able to participate.

Your responsibilities may include engaging with group members through conversation, welcoming participants as they arrive, and supporting the smooth running of sessions by helping with set-up and clear-up tasks. You may also assist with taking attendance at the start of each session.

Full training and regular supervision will be provided, so you’ll feel confident and supported in your role.

This role requires a Basic DBS check, which will be arranged and paid for by Rethink Mental Illness.

As a Volunteer Group Facilitator you will

• Welcome participants and help create a warm, inclusive, and supportive environment
• Support the development of a safe space where individuals feel comfortable sharing as much or as little as they wish
• Assist with setting up before sessions (e.g. arranging chairs, preparing materials, and taking attendance)
• Help tidy and reset the space after sessions
• Collaborate with other volunteers and staff to support the smooth delivery of group activities

About the service

The Bristol Community Support Services team is committed to delivering high-quality, person-centred support. The service focuses on helping individuals achieve their goals, improve their wellbeing, and maintain independence while living with mental illness.

The team includes a Service Manager, Recovery Coaches, a Digital Officer, a Group Development Coordinator, and a Peer and Volunteer Coordinator, all working together to provide a supportive and effective service.
