We’re looking for enthusiastic volunteers to support our Youth Project sessions in Bristol!

About this role

As a Youth Project Volunteer, you’ll work alongside our friendly staff and playworkers at local adventure playgrounds, supporting a welcoming and inclusive environment.

You’ll get involved in a range of cycling activities, including:

• Showing young people how to look after their bikes
• Encouraging children to try cycling skills and group rides
• Helping young people explore green spaces and their local area by bike
• Joining in with games and creative activities

No two sessions are the same, but each session is a great way to make a real difference in your community while having fun alongside young people.

About the Youth Project

Our Youth Project engages young people through imaginative and inspiring cycle-related activity sessions.

Sessions run after school and during school holidays at three adventure playgrounds. We’re currently looking for support at Southmead Adventure Playground (the Ranch) and Lockleaze Adventure Playground (the Vench).

About you

We’re looking for volunteers who:

• Are warm, friendly and enjoy working with children and young people (aged 11 – 16).
• Communicate clearly and patiently with young people, parents and playground staff
• Have an interest in cycling and/or a willingness to learn basic bike repair skills
• Are able to commit to a regular weekly session (2–3 hours per week during term time)

A valid enhanced DBS check is required (or willingness to apply).

As a volunteer at Life Cycle’s community bike shop, you’ll be part of a friendly, hands-on team that refurbishes donated bicycles and supports sustainable cycling in the local community.

You’ll work alongside professional mechanics and fellow volunteers to:

• Refurbish bikes ready for sale and reuse
• Strip bikes for parts or scrap
• Support Hub staff with bike sales to the public
• Help with online sales (eBay) and general Hub activities
• (Optional) Work alongside people on release from prison to support them with bike repairs

This role is a great opportunity for people who enjoy practical work, love bikes, and want to make a meaningful contribution to environmental sustainability and community impact.

About Bikes Beyond Bars

Life Cycle is a Bristol-based charity that transforms lives and the environment through cycling.

At Bikes Beyond Bars, we take donations of unwanted bikes to our prison workshops across the UK, where their workshop tutors teach men how to refurbish them. Prisoners earn a bike mechanics qualification, gain employable skills, and find a new sense of purpose and hope.

Bikes leave the prison workshop and are taken to our Bristol Hub. There, Life Cycle’s mechanics and team of volunteers check, tweak, and prepare them for sale.

• Work alongside course participants in prison workshops, helping them to refurbish a wide range of donated bikes.
• Support learners to develop practical cycle maintenance skills and work towards an industry-recognised professional qualification.
• Provide hands-on assistance alongside experienced Prison Bike Mechanic Tutors.
• Contribute to a positive, supportive learning environment that boosts confidence, employability, and community integration.

By helping refurbish bikes that would otherwise go to waste. You’ll also make a meaningful impact on the participants’ journey toward rehabilitation, helping them gain training that can open doors to future employment.

Summary

Mousehole Wild Bird Hospital are seeking volunteers to support the daily caring duties, cleaning and operations of our hospital site during our 2026 season, May – October.  

We are open 7 days a week, with a variety of opportunities available for volunteers to get involved with. Responsibilities can include cleaning of aviaries, laundry, assisting with telephone enquiries, general gardening and site maintenance.

The role requires you to be at least 18 years old, for all outdoor roles have a reasonable fitness level and be willing to work outdoors in all weathers. Volunteers must be confident working with wild seabirds and have a general interest in animal welfare.

Training, PPE, uniforms and wellies will be provided.

All online and in person training must be attended and completed before you can be onsite and start the position.

Due to our biosecurity measures, our volunteers must not own or care for any wild or domestic birds.

Daily Opportunities:

· Volunteering in Aviaries

This role involves cleaning aviaries to a high standard, working with disinfectants, assisting with laundry and feeding patients.

· Assisting with Telephone Enquiries

This role is responsible for answering calls to members of the public, offering advice, guidance and signposting them to the correct place for care.

Weekly & Ad hoc Opportunities:

· Gardening and Site Maintenance

This role will help with the upkeep of our site through gardening work, maintenance general site, path cleaning and disinfection.

· Fundraising & Event Support

We’re looking for enthusiastic people to support our fundraising work. This would involve supporting to deliver campaigns (online and in person), representing us at events, advocacy, promotion and public engagement.

Commitment: A minimum of one 4 hours shift per week. To respond to the needs of the patients and the Hospital we are looking for volunteers to support us on weekdays and/or weekends.

Skills you need:

· Can communicate and follow instructions well

· Use initiative

· Work well within a team environment but also capable of working independently

· Care and compassion for wildlife and rehabilitation.

Role Summary.

We’re looking for a Data Engineer to help build, maintain, and scale Roots Academy’s data infrastructure. You’ll take ownership of key data pipelines, working closely with the data lead and collaborate with teams across Digital Platforms, Marketing, Fundraising, and Operations to ensure our data is reliable, well structured, and useful for decision making. Your work will directly support how we measure student transformation, programme impact, and organisational performance at every level.

Beyond this, you’ll contribute to the design of our data architecture, helping shape how data flows from source systems into the database. You’ll also support management of our GCP environment (e.g. BigQuery datasets, IAM, performance), ensuring the platform remains clean, scalable, and secure as Roots grows.

Key tasks

• Design, build and maintain data pipelines (e.g. from Firebase/Firestore, Google Drive/GCS, APIs into BigQuery)

• Contribute to Data Architecture design

• Manage & optimise datasets, and improve existing workflows (e.g. GitHub Actions, scheduled jobs, transformations)

• Support GCP platform management (permissions, dataset structure, service accounts, cost awareness)

• Improve documentation, data quality checks, and overall reliability of the data stack

• Experience with Python, and Data Engineering concepts

VOLUNTEER ROLE: PROGRAMME MANAGER – LIFE COACHING

Lead a Coaching Journey That Helps Men Grow, Heal, and Thrive

Now we’re building a powerful new offer: A Life Coaching Programme designed to help men build clarity, confidence, purpose, and emotional strength.

And we’re looking for a Programme Manager who can bring this coaching journey to life.

What You’ll Lead

As our Programme Manager – Life Coaching, you will:

• Oversee the design, delivery, and development of MINDSET’s Life Coaching Programme

• Work with coaches to ensure sessions are safe, empowering, and aligned with our culture code

• Support volunteers delivering coaching across multiple locations or online

• Shape session structures, coaching themes, and growth pathways

• Monitor engagement, outcomes, and feedback to drive continuous improvement

• Ensure the programme remains action‑based, stigma‑free, and accessible to all men

• Work closely with the Head of Services and leadership team to scale the programme nationally

• Champion our values — honesty, courage, growth, brotherhood, inclusion, action — in every coaching interaction

You’ll be the architect of a coaching journey that helps men step into their next chapter.

• A passion for men’s wellbeing and personal development

• Strong organisational and leadership skills

• Experience in coaching, mentoring, training, or programme delivery

• A belief in action‑based, stigma‑free approaches

• Emotional intelligence and a people‑first mindset

• A commitment to inclusion, safety, and impact

• The courage to build something bold, new, and needed
