We are looking for a volunteer to help take PINT’s external brand to the next level – focusing on building the profile of PINT via media, TV and radio, with the ultimate aim of gaining more support for the charity and increasing our fundraising. We are looking for someone who has experience in public relations and external communications, with strong written and verbal communication skills, who is familiar with writing press releases and working across multiple media channels.

We are looking for a volunteer to support PINT in applying for grants on behalf of the charity, who will be responsible for identifying suitable grant opportunities, and managing the grant and fundraising application process from end to end. We are looking for someone who is computer literate, with strong written and verbal communication skills and good attention to detail. Ideally we would love to work with anyone who understands the charity sector and has some previous knowledge of grant writing/fundraising, but we are also very open to anyone who is willing to self teach about this area.

Role Purpose

This is a senior volunteer leadership role designed to provide strategic and operational resilience across the department.

Role Requirements (Deputy Head)

Given the seniority and responsibility of this volunteer role, the following experience is required:

• A PhD is required, along with postdoctoral research experience, or significant academic or practical research experience at an equivalent level, demonstrating advanced expertise in research design, ethics, governance or reporting.

• Substantial experience in research ethics, research governance or research leadership, ideally across multiple projects or teams.

• Experience in strategic planning, departmental oversight or senior‑level decision‑making, whether in a volunteer, academic or professional context.

• A strong track record of ethical decision‑making, particularly in roles where judgement, integrity and risk assessment were central.

• Experience with research reporting, research communication or academic publication processes is highly beneficial.

• A strong interest in ethical governance, research integrity and maintaining high standards across research projects.

• Familiarity with GDPR and responsible data management practices, or willingness to develop this knowledge quickly.

• Experience working with volunteers or mixed‑experience teams is advantageous.

Our partner is a well-established UK charity with a strong reputation in healthcare research and data, playing an important role in improving outcomes and informing policy across the sector.

The Treasurer will join the Board as a Trustee and chair the Audit and Risk Sub-Committee, overseeing financial governance and supporting long-term sustainability. Working closely with the senior leadership team, the role includes reviewing budgets and financial reporting, advising on reserves and risk, and ensuring appropriate controls and compliance are in place.

The ideal candidate will be a senior finance professional, likely at CFO or Finance Director level, with strong experience in governance, audit and risk. You will be comfortable operating at Board level, able to provide constructive challenge, and confident communicating financial matters clearly.

This is a strategic oversight role with an established finance function in place. The commitment includes quarterly Board and committee meetings, with two in-person meetings in London each year, plus some ad hoc support.

The Treasurer will join the Board of Trustees and provide oversight of financial management and governance. We are seeking dedicated volunteers to support our organisation’s mission, to end social isolation and loneliness in older people.

Our telephone befriending services connects a volunteer with an older person, aged 75 or over, who is experiencing loneliness and isolation. As a Call Companion volunteer, you’ll make a regular phone call, typically once a week, to foster friendship, enjoyment and conversation.

Your Role

• Call the older person you’ve been matched with for approximately 20-30 minutes, usually once a week.
• Provide companionship over the phone by talking about interests, experiences and by providing a listening ear.
• Maintain the boundaries set out in our training and report any concerns to Re-engage.
• Keep your knowledge and training up to date by reading our volunteer newsletter – Re-engage Matters – sent monthly by email.

Skills

• Excellent communication skills in English, with a compassionate approach
• Basic IT skills
• Empathy, patience, and a genuine desire to make a positive impact on others’ lives.

To become a Call Companion you’ll need to:

• Complete an induction – you might choose to attend a group induction or watch our pre-recorded video.

• Provide a character reference – your referee can be an employer, a colleague, a friend, neighbour or community representative.
• Complete online training – these modules will help you get the most out of the role and take approximately one hour to complete.
