🔴 Important Eligibility Note: This is an onsite, self-funded international volunteer placement located in Ghana. This opportunity is open ONLY to international volunteers and applicants traveling from outside the African continent (including Europe, North America, South America, Asia, Australia, and Antarctica). Because SFLIG operates on a sustainable, grassroots model, volunteers must fully fund their own experience, including international flights, visa arrangements, and the program fee which covers safe community housing, daily meals, airport pickup, and 24/7 onsite support. Local applications cannot be considered for this international framework.
Program Overview
Gain a profound understanding of global maternal health and clinical obstetrics by joining SFLIG Volunteers’ Midwifery placement in Ghana. Tailored specifically for midwifery students, aspiring labor and delivery nurses, OB/GYN residents, and pre-health students, this program offers an immersive look at pre-natal, labor, and post-natal care in resource-limited settings.
Participants shadow local midwives and obstetric nurses in bustling regional hospitals and rural clinics, witnessing firsthand the resourcefulness, cultural practices, and challenges unique to maternal healthcare delivery in West Africa.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Observation & Shadowing: Shadow skilled local midwives and obstetric staff during prenatal consultations, active labor, deliveries, and postnatal evaluations.
Maternal & Neonatal Triage Support: Assist staff under direct supervision with routine tasks such as measuring maternal vitals, tracking fetal heart rates, and charting patient progress.
Postnatal Care Assistance: Observe and assist with newborn checkups, maternal recovery monitoring, and educational support for new mothers regarding breastfeeding and infant wellness.
Community Public Health Outreaches: Participate in local community health caravans focused on reproductive health education, family planning resources, and neonatal care in rural villages.
Qualifications & Requirements
Current student or graduate in Midwifery, Nursing (with a focus on Labor & Delivery), Pre-Med, Public Health, or a related field.
A deep commitment to patient privacy, clinical ethics, and respect for cultural birth practices.
Emotional resilience, high adaptability, and the ability to maintain composure in fast-paced, high-stakes clinical environments.
Strong interpersonal skills and an eagerness to learn from local, experienced midwives.
Onsite Commitment & Self-Funding: Ability to travel to and reside onsite in Ghana for the duration of your placement, with the financial capacity to cover all associated travel and program expenses.
Cultural Experience & Weekend Tours
Volunteering with SFLIG is more than just clinical work; it is a full cultural immersion. Beyond your hours in the clinic, you will experience the famous warmth and hospitality of Ghana through local language lessons, traditional cooking sessions, and community gatherings.
On the weekends, you will have the opportunity to join coordinated group excursions to explore Ghana's rich history and breathtaking landscapes. Depending on your placement region, weekend tours can include:
Walking the canopy bridges at Kakum National Park.
Exploring the historic Cape Coast and Elmina Castles.
Visiting the vibrant cultural markets of Kumasi.
Relaxing on the beautiful beaches of the coastal region.
Program Flexibility & Hours
Flexible Start Dates: This is an all-year-round opportunity. Volunteers select their own arrival and departure dates to align with their personal, professional, or academic schedules.
Customizable Schedules: You have the flexibility to determine your daily hospital/clinic shift lengths and the total number of hours you wish to commit each day, leaving plenty of time to enjoy the local culture.
Thank you for your interest in the Midwifery Volunteer Programme with SFLIG Volunteers in Ghana.
Please note that this is an onsite, self-funded international volunteer programme. Participants are responsible for their programme fee, international flights, visa, travel insurance and personal expenses.
This placement is designed for student midwives, qualified midwives and recent graduates who wish to gain practical exposure by observing and supporting healthcare professionals in a Ghanaian maternity setting. Volunteers work alongside experienced local staff and must always follow the policies, procedures and supervision requirements of the host healthcare facility.

At Cats Protection we help thousands of cats and kittens each year thanks to our dedicated and passionate volunteer groups. For more than a century, the RAF Benevolent Fund has stood beside the RAF Family;
through war and peace, hardship and change. From the first day in uniform to the final
years of life, we have been a constant source of emotional, practical and financial support.
Today, our work reaches serving personnel, veterans, families and the bereaved in more
than 30 countries.
As the demands on the RAF Family grow in complexity and urgency, so too must the resilience
of the charity that serves them. Our ability to provide life-changing support, whether keeping a
family in their home, helping veterans navigate injury or isolation, or walking beside the
bereaved, relies on strong, stable and sustainable income streams. Therefore, we are seeking a
Trustee with significant fundraising expertise to help shape and strengthen our long-term
financial future. The successful candidate will join our diverse and highly skilled Board and
Fundraising, Communications and Engagement Committee to:
• play a key strategic role in supporting our fundraising vision and strategy
• provide strategic input into fundraising plans and campaigns
• support and advise on income generation, donor engagement and partnerships
The full role description can be found on our website here. The role is voluntary, however
reasonable out-of-pocket expenses are paid. We will provide the successful candidate with a
bespoke induction programme and relevant training / development.
Interested?
We would love to hear from you if you have the experience and passion we are seeking.
Please send an up-to-date CV and covering email / letter outlining your background, skills,
experience and interest in the role. Email address and contact details can be found on our website. If you have any questions about the role or would like to have an informal
discussion prior to applying, please contact Lisa (information on website).
We welcome applications from anyone who has the experience we are seeking, irrespective of
background, community, industry or protected characteristics. If you require any reasonable
adjustments as part of your application process, please let us know. You must be eligible to be
a charity trustee under UK law to be considered for this role. We operate safer selection
practices; this will involve the successful candidate being required to have a Disclosure and
Barring Service check.
Applications will be considered on a rolling basis, and this position will remain open until we
have found our ideal candidate. No agencies please.
We are the longest-standing Royal Air Force charity, dedicated to supporting serving and former RAF personnel, and their families.

About The Pinnacle Centre
The Pinnacle Centre is a third space in Birmingham helping young adults grow holistically. We work across three domains: personal development, sports and wellbeing, and community and belonging.
Vision 2030 is where that work is heading. We're building a multi-purpose centre in Birmingham — sports facilities, co-working space, an auditorium and a café — designed as a home for young adults to train, work, learn and gather.
Role Summary
You run Pinnacle's finance function day to day: accurate books, timely reporting, tight controls and no surprises. The CFO sets financial strategy; you own the numbers underneath it.
Key tasks
1. Bookkeeping & transactions
○ Record income and expenditure accurately and promptly.
○ Reconcile bank accounts, card transactions and payment platforms.
○ Process supplier invoices and volunteer expense claims in line with policy.
2. Reporting
○ Produce monthly management accounts with commentary, not just figures.
○ Report budget against actual by department and flag variances early.
○ Track restricted fund spend against funder conditions.
3. Controls & compliance
○ Enforce authorisation limits, expenses policy and segregation of duties.
○ Prepare for year end and support Companies House filings and the CIC annual report.
○ Keep records in a state that would survive scrutiny.
4. Budgeting support
○ Help each lead build a budget they can realistically hold.
○ Provide event and programme costings, including cost per participant.
○ Challenge spending that is unbudgeted or unjustified.
What we're looking for
● Qualified, part-qualified or experienced in bookkeeping and management accounts.
● Accurate and methodical — small errors bother you.
● Confident with accounting software such as Xero or QuickBooks.
● Familiar with restricted fund accounting in a charity or CIC context (desirable).
● Discreet and trustworthy with confidential information.
What we have to offer
● Real ownership of a function, not a task list — you will shape how it works, not just execute someone else's plan.
● A seat in a team building towards a 2030 horizon, with a clear line of sight to the leadership team.
● Access to our network of founders, professionals, entrepreneurs and investors through Pinnacle's events programme.
● Training, mentoring and the opportunity to build and lead a team of your own as the organisation grows.
● The reward of building something in your city that will outlast all of us.
Please note: this is currently a volunteer position. Reasonable expenses for travel, equipment and refreshments are reimbursed in line with our Expenses Policy. As Pinnacle grows and funding allows, we expect several senior roles to move to paid positions, and volunteers already in post will be considered first.

Role Summary
You bring in corporate support — sponsorship, charity-of-the-year partnerships, in-kind giving and employee fundraising. You build relationships where the business genuinely gets something back.
Key tasks
1. Prospecting
○ Identify businesses whose interests align with Pinnacle's work and audience.
○ Research decision-makers and the best route in.
○ Maintain a prospect pipeline with clear ownership so approaches never collide with other teams.
2. Proposition & pitch

○ Agree everything in writing before delivery begins.
3. Delivery & stewardship
○ Deliver what was promised: visibility, access, engagement and reporting.
○ Provide sponsors with evidence of impact and reach.
○ Renew partnerships before they lapse rather than after.
4. Coordination
○ Coordinate with the Partnerships Lead so one organisation has one relationship with us.
○ Work with Events on sponsor presence and experience on the night.
○ Report income and pipeline to the CFO.
What we're looking for
● Sales, business development or sponsorship experience.
● Confident with senior business contacts and comfortable making the first approach.
● Commercially minded — you can structure something where both sides win.
● Strong follow-through; the role is mostly what happens after the pitch.
● Knowledge of the Birmingham business network (desirable).
