Our work is simple – we refurbish unwanted bikes and donate them to refugees and people seeking asylum, many living on less than £7 a day, giving them freedom and independence whilst they rebuild their lives.

A bike makes a huge difference – not only is it a practical tool for tackling poverty, those who receive bikes from us report they are more connected in their community, happier and healthier as a result:

• 91% of people use their bikes weekly for essential journeys

• 84% of people are better able to access legal and other vital support services

Alongside our core Bike Donations Programme, we support refugee women to learn to cycle through our Pedal Power Programme; provide ongoing support with bike maintenance through our Repair or Replace Programme; and offer the opportunity for connection and friendship through our volunteer-matching Bike Buddy Programme.

About You and the Role  

You don’t need to have experience of being on a Board, in fact the role would be ideal for someone considering taking on their first role as a trustee. We will work with you to understand your duties and support you.

You will, however, have an excellent understanding of charity finance and understand the unique set of challenges charities of our size face in delivering impact and ensuring financial resilience. You will be an excellent communicator – able to provide constructive feedback and scrutiny at the same time as helping the team to articulate financial information to others who may not have a finance background.
 
You will be joining a highly committed group of trustees who give their time, expertise and contacts to support the charity. Our trustees are critical in enabling us to thrive and this role plays a key role in supporting the wider board to fulfil its financial responsibilities.

You will work together with the board and wider staff team to set our strategic direction and improve our work with refugees. At the heart of everything we do is the real and immediate impact a bike makes to the lives of those who have been through so much. You will be part of us achieving that.
 
The time commitment for a trustee generally totals approximately 8 hours per month. Please see the role description for further details.

We are seeking dedicated and compassionate Volunteers to join our drop in group in Crawley that take place on 1st and 3rd Monday of month, 10:30-12:30. This role is ideal for individuals looking to make a meaningful impact in the community while gaining valuable experience or perhaps someone looking to train as a speech and language therapist.

The Say Aphasia charity provides support groups across the UK for people with aphasia; a language and communication disability caused by a brain injury like a stroke. Aphasia affects over 350,000 people in the UK but is little understood or known about by the public. It is the only aphasia charity set up by people with aphasia for people with aphasia; helping them to adapt to their new way of life and regain their independence and confidence.

Aphasia occurs due to injury to the brain such as a stroke. It affects access to language, resulting in difficulties following conversations, speaking, reading and writing.

Volunteers will support the running of the group with communicating, and will have the opportunity to utilise their communication skills and IT knowledge to take a register of attendance.

Responsibilities

• Provide companionship and support to individuals, particularly those living with asphasia.
• Assist in organising activities that promote social interaction and engagement.
• Communicate effectively with participants, ensuring their needs are understood and met.

Are you a committed Christian with professional investment experience who has a heart to see a new generation develop a vibrant faith in Jesus Christ? 

We are seeking a volunteer with professional investment experience to join our Audit & Finance Committee, supporting the Board in its responsibility for financial oversight, governance and assurance. 

This role would suit someone who has worked as an investment consultant, investment manager, or in a similar advisory capacity, and who can bring independent expertise to strengthen the Committee’s oversight of our investment arrangements. 

Scripture Union holds investments of approximately £1.9 million (including a capital endowment of around £0.65 million) and a further c.£0.8 million held in cash or cash-equivalent deposits to support liquidity needs. These invested assets are managed externally by Rathbones through charity-specific pooled investment funds. Investment decisions are made in line with our ethical investment policy, which ensures that funds avoid sectors inconsistent with our Christian values. 

About the role 

As part of a broader remit covering financial reporting, internal controls, audit, risk management and compliance, the Committee also plays a key role in: 

• reviewing and approving our investment policies; and 

• monitoring the performance of the investment management, making recommendations to the Board where appropriate.

In this context, you will help the Committee: 

• monitor the performance of our funds managed by Rathbones; 

• provide constructive challenge on investment performance and reporting; 

• support the Committee in reviewing whether the current investment strategy and asset mix remains appropriate; and 

• contribute to providing assurance that there is a robust level of due diligence, oversight and governance in place.

About The Stray Cat Charity (TSCC)

The Stray Cat Charity is a newly established UK-registered CIO working to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome stray cats in Greece, starting in Patras. Our current priority campaign is to raise £35,000 to build a dedicated stray cat shelter in Patras, Greece, which will provide safe housing, veterinary care, and a pathway to adoption for vulnerable cats. As a growing new charity, we are building our fundraising and outreach network across the UK.

We’re not going to sugar-coat it, things aren’t great for working parents and pregnant women. It can feel frustrating and a bit depressing at times, but by being part of the Pregnant Then Screwed volunteer team, you get to turn that frustration into something positive. In the last year the fantastic volunteers on our Advice Line have spoken to over 5000 women and parents, collectively providing around 40 hours of free support and advice every week. Hundreds of women and parents call our Advice Line every day, but with a small team of volunteers we are only able to answer a fraction of those calls—this is where you come in.

We are looking for brilliant HR professionals who want to help Pregnant Then Screwed tackle the Motherhood Penalty by becoming a Volunteer HR Advisor.

Our Volunteer Advisors give around 1-2 hours a week of their time to the Advice Line. They use their HR knowledge to offer a kind, empathetic support and advice to help people to identify and challenge pregnancy and maternity discrimination in the workplace.

• Minimum CIPD level 5 Diploma in People Management with one professional reference.

• Access to a reliable and secure WIFI connection. Public WIFI is not suitable for this role.

Alfriston Outreach Service is dedicated to helping older and vulnerable people in Kingston. We provide services such as Hot Lunch delivery, Shopping, and Laundry delivered into people’s homes, with our aim to support older people to remain independent in their own homes.

For many people this is one of the hardest and loneliest parts of pregnancy. Our social media is often the first place someone finds out they are not alone.

We are looking for a creative  Social Media Volunteer to help us tell that story well. You would help shape warm, accurate and engaging content across Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn and X, and, if it interests you, help us explore and launch a presence on TikTok. Most of your creative work would be in Canva, using our templates and brand.

• Creating warm, accurate posts and simple graphics in Canva that share support, information and lived experience across our channels

Responsibilities

• Lead GSI's research agenda and ensure alignment with the organization's seven strategic pillars.
• Provide strategic research leadership to support organizational growth and decision-making.

Key Deliverables

• Develop and implement an annual organizational research agenda.
• Produce quarterly strategic intelligence reports for Executive Leadership.
• Lead departmental planning and performance reviews.

2. Policy Research & Strategic Insights

Responsibilities

• Lead research on economic development, governance, healthcare, education, agriculture, climate, water, and international development.
• Translate research findings into practical policy recommendations.

Key Deliverables

• Publish 6–8 policy briefs or white papers annually.
• Produce monthly policy and global trend updates.
• Deliver evidence-based recommendations supporting GSI programs and advocacy.

3. Research for Resource Mobilization

Responsibilities

• Provide research and technical evidence that strengthens grant proposals, donor engagement, and partnership development.

Key Deliverables

• Support 100% of major grant proposals with research and supporting data.
• Produce country profiles, sector analyses, and needs assessments as required.
• Identify emerging funding and development opportunities.

4. Monitoring, Evaluation & Organizational Learning

Responsibilities

• Oversee research quality, impact measurement, and organizational learning systems.
• Promote evidence-based decision-making across all departments.

Key Deliverables

• Publish an Annual Impact Report.
• Conduct quarterly program learning reviews.
• Ensure organizational KPIs are supported by reliable data and analysis.

5. Knowledge Management & Strategic Partnerships

Responsibilities

• Strengthen GSI's reputation as a trusted research and policy institution through publications and partnerships.

Key Deliverables

• Publish at least four flagship research reports annually.
• Establish 3–5 new partnerships each year with universities, think tanks, or research institutions.
• Represent GSI at strategic conferences, policy forums, and research networks.

Performance will be measured by:

• Delivery of the annual research agenda.
• Number and quality of research publications and policy briefs.
• Research contributions to successful grant proposals and partnerships.
• Timeliness and quality of executive intelligence reports.

Director Communications. Marketing, and Public Engagement

1. Communications & Brand Strategy

Responsibilities

• Lead GSI's communications and branding strategy.
• Ensure consistent messaging across all platforms and publications.

• Develop an annual communications and marketing plan.
• Review and update brand guidelines annually.
• Support major organizational announcements and campaigns.

2. Digital Marketing & Content

Responsibilities

• Oversee GSI's website, social media, newsletters, and digital communications.
• Share stories that highlight GSI's programs, partnerships, and impact.

• Publish weekly digital content across key platforms.
• Produce one monthly newsletter.
• Monitor audience growth and engagement, providing quarterly performance reports.

3. Public & Media Engagement

Responsibilities

• Build relationships with media, partners, and key stakeholders.
• Coordinate public awareness campaigns and media opportunities.

• Issue press releases and media updates for major initiatives.
• Coordinate at least one public engagement or awareness campaign each quarter.
• Maintain an up-to-date media and stakeholder contact database.

4. Partnership & Fundraising Communications

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with Fundraising, Partnerships, and Program teams to develop communication materials that support resource mobilization.

• Support 100% of major fundraising and partnership campaigns with communication materials.
• Develop impact stories, presentations, and donor communication pieces as required.

5. Team Leadership & Performance

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor the Communications team while promoting collaboration across departments.

• Hold monthly team planning meetings.
• Conduct quarterly performance and content reviews.
• Identify opportunities to improve communication processes and audience engagement.

Director of Finance & Administration

Role Purpose

Lead GSI's financial and administrative operations by ensuring sound financial management, strong governance, regulatory compliance, and efficient organizational systems. The Director will provide strategic financial guidance to the CEO and Executive Leadership Team while safeguarding the organization's resources and supporting sustainable growth across GSI's seven strategic pillars.

Key Responsibilities & Deliverables

1. Financial Strategy & Planning

• Lead GSI's financial planning, budgeting, and sustainability strategy.
• Advise leadership on financial performance and resource allocation.

Key Deliverables

• Prepare the annual organizational budget.
• Present quarterly financial performance reports to leadership.
• Develop an annual financial sustainability plan.

2. Financial Management & Reporting

Responsibilities

• Oversee accounting, cash flow, financial reporting, and budget monitoring.
• Ensure accurate financial records and responsible use of resources.

Key Deliverables

• Produce monthly financial reports.
• Monitor departmental budgets and recommend corrective actions where needed.
• Maintain accurate financial records and reconciliations.

3. Grant Finance & Compliance

Responsibilities

• Oversee financial management of grants, donor-funded projects, and sponsorships.
• Ensure compliance with donor requirements and financial policies.

Key Deliverables

• Submit 100% of donor financial reports on time.
• Support preparation of project budgets for funding proposals.
• Monitor grant expenditure and compliance throughout project implementation.

4. Administration & Operational Support

Responsibilities

• Oversee procurement, contracts, and administrative systems that support organizational operations.
• Promote efficient and cost-effective business processes.

• Review procurement and administrative procedures annually.
• Ensure organizational assets and contracts are properly managed.
• Support operational planning across departments.

5. Governance, Risk & Audit

Responsibilities

• Strengthen financial controls, manage financial risk, and coordinate audit activities.
• Support compliance with nonprofit regulations and organizational policies.

• Coordinate the annual external audit.
• Maintain and review financial policies and internal controls.
• Implement audit recommendations within agreed timelines.

Role Impact

The Director of Finance & Administration ensures GSI remains financially sustainable, transparent, and accountable. Through effective financial stewardship, strong governance, and efficient operational systems, the role enables the organization to maximize its resources, build donor confidence, and deliver lasting impact across all seven strategic pillars.

• Master's degree (MBA, MPA, MSc Finance, or equivalent) is strongly preferred.

Professional Certifications

One or more of the following is highly desirable:

• CPA (Certified Public Accountant)
• ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants)
• CMA (Certified Management Accountant)
• CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst)
• CIMA (Chartered Institute of Management Accountants)

Experience

• Minimum 7 years of progressive experience in finance, accounting, grants management, administration, or nonprofit operations.
• At least 3–5 years in a senior leadership or management role.
• Experience with donor-funded projects, international NGOs, foundations, or development organizations is highly desirable.
