The Retail Distribution Centre (RDC) is where donations are stored, sorted, cleaned and distributed to the shops. Our volunteers help with household items ranging from crockery, toys, small electrical items, pictures, as well as clothes, shoes and bags. You will become part of the team that will sort, prepare, and recycle donations for resale.

JUSTICE is seeking a new Treasurer and two new Board Members. Whilst it is essential that the Treasurer has a high level of financial literacy, it would be highly desirable for the other two new board members to bring credible, senior expertise in  fundraising or communications. We are particularly interested in recruiting Board members with experience from outside the legal sector.

Our Treasurer should have specific and significant financial management and/or accountancy experience and will chair our Finance, Risk and Audit Committee. They will provide oversight and challenge in relation to our annual budget, our accounts, our audit, internal controls and risk management as well as provide strategic advice and assurance to the Board and the Executive Team.

JUSTICE’s Board Members are responsible for the overall governance, strategic direction and long-term sustainability of JUSTICE. Working collectively, they support the organisation in pursuing its charitable objectives, safeguarding its assets and reputation, fundraising and ensuring that it operates effectively and in compliance with all relevant laws, particularly legislation governing charities and companies.

Board Members of JUSTICE are expected to prepare for and attend four Board meetings per year, including a half day “away day”, and in addition to join Board Committees as appropriate which also meet four times per year. Board Members are also encouraged to attend two Council meetings per year, including an in person half-day conference.

Summary

The Sussex Area of the Ramblers has two Countryside Officers, one for East Sussex and one for West Sussex. The main activity in the role is to act on behalf of members where a planning development is likely to have an adverse impact on the walking environment in the Sussex countryside.

Description

The Ramblers, the Sussex Area of which celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2026, is the only charity dedicated to removing barriers so everyone can enjoy walking in green spaces, and to improving Britain’s most popular and least-known walking places. We’re committed to campaigning to keep our footpaths open to all and to fighting for the things that matter most to walkers. We lead the way, and the walks, for a vibrant community united by the joys of walking, helping everyone get more out of their walks. 

The role of East Sussex Area Countryside Officer involves reviewing planning applications published by Local Authorities and creating and submitting objections on behalf of Sussex Ramblers if an application is likely to have an adverse impact on the Sussex countryside and the places where people walk. Objections may be expressed in writing through a response to the planning process, but could also involve site visits and on occasion attendance at public hearings or meetings with representatives of Local Authorities or with other stakeholders such as Parish Councils and environmental and wildlife organisations.

The role holder will work closely with other Ramblers volunteers such as the East Sussex Area Footpath Officer, the West Sussex Area Countryside Officer and Local Footpath Wardens in East Sussex and where necessary will seek advice and guidance from Ramblers' Central Office. Other main contacts include the Local Authorities, Parish/Town Councils, the South Downs National Park Authority and the East Sussex Local Access Forum. The role holder will be a member of the Area leadership team (Area Council). You will need to be a member of the Ramblers and to live in or close to East Sussex.

What Impact will you have?

The Ramblers help everyone, everywhere, enjoy walking and protects the places we all love to walk. By volunteering as an Area Countryside Officer you will be playing a vital role in making sure we can achieve this by holding Local Authorities to account for planning decisions, and helping to ensure that our countryside and the places people walk, essential to health and wellbeing, are safeguarded.

Skills and Experience Required

You should have a passion for walking and for the preservation and protection of the natural beauty of the countryside and the special qualities of urban space, and a good knowledge of the county. Experience and knowledge of the Local Authorities' planning process is not essential but would be an advantage. The role is suitable for someone who is highly reliable, organised, capable of taking initiative and with an ability to articulate strategic issues clearly in written and spoken form. A desire and ability to work in a team environment is essential. You will also need to be comfortable using a computer and the internet, and managing information.

Role Summary

You run Pinnacle's finance function day to day: accurate books, timely reporting, tight controls and no surprises. The CFO sets financial strategy; you own the numbers underneath it.

Key tasks

1.  Bookkeeping & transactions

○ Record income and expenditure accurately and promptly.

○ Reconcile bank accounts, card transactions and payment platforms.

○ Process supplier invoices and volunteer expense claims in line with policy.

2.  Reporting

○ Produce monthly management accounts with commentary, not just figures.

○ Report budget against actual by department and flag variances early.

○ Track restricted fund spend against funder conditions.

3.  Controls & compliance

○ Enforce authorisation limits, expenses policy and segregation of duties.

○ Prepare for year end and support Companies House filings and the CIC annual report.

○ Keep records in a state that would survive scrutiny.

4.  Budgeting support

○ Help each lead build a budget they can realistically hold.

○ Provide event and programme costings, including cost per participant.

○ Challenge spending that is unbudgeted or unjustified.

What we're looking for

● Qualified, part-qualified or experienced in bookkeeping and management accounts.

● Accurate and methodical — small errors bother you.

● Confident with accounting software such as Xero or QuickBooks.

● Familiar with restricted fund accounting in a charity or CIC context (desirable).

4.  Coordination

○ Coordinate with the Partnerships Lead so one organisation has one relationship with us.
