Do you share our vision of a society in which women and girls are safe, healthy and equal? Do you believe passionately in the importance of women’s and girls’ organisations and feel frustrated at the amount of funding and support that they receive? Would you enjoy contributing to the development of an ambitious organisation that aims to make a difference?
If so, you could be the person we’re looking for to help support Rosa through the next stage of our journey. This is an exciting time to join us as we implement our ambitious new strategy. We’re planning to expand our work in funding women’s and girls’ organisations, building the capacity of the sector and inspiring more investment into it – with the objective of building a sector that is thriving, resilient and sustainable.
Our current Treasurer is stepping down from the role, and we are therefore looking to replace her. We need a qualified accountant with the time and skills to provide strategic financial oversight and governance, as well as supporting our Head of Finance and Operations’ work to ensure that the charity’s finances are on a stable footing and that appropriate policies, processes and controls are in place.
Rosa takes its commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion extremely seriously, recognising the value that this adds to our success. Rosa already reaps the benefits of having a diverse board and welcomes applications from people of all backgrounds and life experiences. We are particularly keen to hear from people from Black and racially minoritised communities, LGBTQ+ people, disabled people, and people with broad educational backgrounds and life experiences. Lastly, as a UK-wide grant maker, we would be keen to have more trustees residing in and/or with personal experience of Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.
We don’t need you to have previous experience of a Treasurer role, not do you need to have worked in the charity sector before – we would in fact welcome applicants with private sector experience. We are looking for individuals who really care about the work we do and can contribute to the work of the Board. We are committed to supporting you to develop new skills in your role as our Treasurer, for you to take beyond your time with us.
If joining the Rosa board sounds interesting, we would love to hear from you.

The Student Publication Association (SPA) is recruiting a new member of the trustee board to assist its work in advancing the education of student journalists across the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland.
As a small, student-led charity, we support more than 250 member publications around the UK and Republic of Ireland, offering advice, training, and recognition at both our regional and national awards.
Our trustee board plays a vital role in our governance, ensuring that we remain within the boundaries of charity law, protecting the charity’s long-term stability, and supporting our student executives.
For this round of applications, we are particularly keen to hear from applicants with one or more of the following:
Strong experience and connections working within the journalism industry;
Experience and connections in fundraising and sponsorship;
Experience of managing budgets and finances;
Experience of working in volunteer organisations.
Even if you do not have the above experience, please do apply. We are always open to hearing from people who share our passion for student journalism! No previous experience in journalism or as a charity trustee is required — but we do ask that you share our commitment to the advancement of student journalism.
We strongly encourage candidates from underrepresented and marginalised backgrounds to apply. This includes, but isn’t limited to, ethnic minorities, LGBTQI+, disabled, and care-experienced communities. We are also keen to hear from applicants working in all areas of the journalism industry.
About The Role
As a small volunteer-run charity, we anticipate the role would take up an average of 1-2 hours a week, although this may increase during busier periods for the SPA, such as around our annual national conference (SPANC).
As a trustee, you will be a collaborative and supportive team player who will:
Attend monthly oversight meetings with the executive committee and other trustees;
Attend other meetings and 1-2-1s as needed on an ad hoc basis;
Offer guidance and support to the executive committee throughout the year to help them achieve their goals, particularly in your area of expertise;
Ensure that the charity is carrying out its core purpose, that resources are managed responsibly, and that activities comply with our governing documents;
Support the delivery of our national conference, including attendance at the weekend itself during the Easter university holidays;
Where possible, attend our induction day, for new executive members each year.
This is a volunteer role, but all reasonable expenses will be covered. The term for these appointments will be three years.
You will be part of a trustee board of ten people; four elected trustees, four appointed trustees, and two ex-officio trustees from our student-led executive committee.
How To Apply
To apply, please send a CV and cover letter by October 4 at 11.59 pm.
Shortlisted candidates will be invited to a short 30-minute interview with members of our current executive committee and trustee board.
Please feel free to reach out to any of our current board members if you have any questions. Should you require any accommodations to support your application, please contact Jem Collins.
Everyone is welcome to apply for this role, unless you have sat as a member of the executive committee within the last 12 months.

We work alongside people seeking safety to provide daily essentials, fill the gaps state support leaves, and open up access to justice. We also press the public and policymakers to act. Our vision is an inclusive society where people seeking safety have a safe home and a bright future free from inequality.
In northern France we operate year-round from Calais, providing warm clothing, shelter, services and assistance to people living in dangerous conditions. In the UK, our Field Operations teams distribute clothes and essentials, run language lessons, sports and music workshops, and connect people to medical, educational and specialist services; our Legal Access teams secure legal representation and make sure people are informed and empowered throughout their asylum claim.
Our work is informed by an Advisory Board of people with lived experience of seeking safety, who provide strategic input and feedback.
About the role
We're appointing more Trustees with lived experience of seeking asylum. You'll join as we begin a strategic review that will shape our priorities for the coming years - so your insight will help decide where a charity working on the front line of the hostile environment puts its energy next, and make sure those decisions reflect the realities and aspirations of the people we exist to serve.
As a member of the Board, you’ll be working to set Care4Calais' strategic direction, hold us to our governing documents and legal duties, and support and challenge the leadership team so the charity can grow and thrive.
You don't need previous governance experience. We will support you and give you what you need to do the role well.

Ensure Care4Calais complies with its governing document, charity law and other applicable regulation
Ensure we pursue our charitable objects, and that all activities and resources advance that purpose

Review what we're achieving and how effective our activities are

Oversee financial plans and budgets, monitor progress, and review and approve financial statements
Ensure robust processes for handling money and accurate record keeping
Ensure income generation is on target, lawful, and doesn't expose us to undue risk
Ensure the effective and efficient administration of the organisation
Judgement and stewardship
Use your own judgement to make decisions that are honest, lawful and in Care4Calais' best interests
Avoid conflicts of interest or loyalty where you can; declare and record those you can't
Support and challenge the leadership team in exercising their delegated authority
Promote our aims and reputation through your skills, knowledge and contacts
Attend Board meetings prepared to contribute
Who we're looking for
Lived experience of seeking asylum
Willingness to understand and accept a trustee's legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities, and to act in the charity's best interests
Strong commitment to our cause, values and strategic objectives
A strategic, critical thinker who is comfortable asking questions, challenging assumptions and sharing views with respect and confidence
Ability to work as part of a team, understanding that trusteeship is collective
The time to do the role well - attending meetings and taking an active part in discussion
Support you'll get: structured onboarding, a buddy from the Board, and external mentoring through the Experts by Experience Employment Network.
Terms of service
The role is voluntary, with reasonable expenses reimbursed. Trustees are appointed for a 3 year term which is renewable. We expect trustees to attend all scheduled Board meetings, with reasonable allowances for extenuating circumstances.
As a small charity, there will be times we need you beyond Board meetings — scrutinising papers, advising on new initiatives, or lending expertise on a particular issue. Trustees are encouraged to visit our operations in the UK and northern France.
All appointments are subject to the standard requirement that candidates are not disqualified from acting as a charity trustee under the Charities Act; you'll be asked for the relevant declarations.
How to apply
Send a CV and a letter of interest (1–2 pages) setting out why you want the role and how you meet the person specification.
Skills and insight come from a wide range of life experiences, not only paid work - tell us about any experiences, learnings or perspectives you think would help you thrive here.
You will never be asked to describe your lived experience at any stage of this process unless you choose to.
Want an informal chat first? Contact Wilf Sullivan, Chair of the Board wilf [@] care4calais .org

Applicants are welcome to use the guidance at ebeemployment .com and to contact the EBE support team for help with your application and, where available, one-to-one interview preparation.
