Role overview
Trustee — Policy, Advocacy & EDI
About us: Could you help us get millions of separated children Back to Family?
Orphanages don’t protect children, they harm them. Put simply: the last thing an orphanage can provide is the first thing a child needs - someone to love them.
Right now, 5.4 million children around the world are locked away in orphanages — even though over 80% of them are not orphans. Orphanages expose children to abuse and trafficking, and physical and psychological trauma that can last a lifetime. A century of evidence shows that the bond between a child and their family is what every child needs to grow, thrive and be safe.
The role
As our Policy, Advocacy & EDI Trustee, you will help shape and strengthen HHC's influence on the global stage, bringing senior expertise to bear on the policy and financing decisions that determine the pace of care reform worldwide. Working closely with our Chair, CEO and senior advocacy and programmes colleagues, you will contribute to our ambitious 2030 goal by:
- Advocacy strategy — providing strategic guidance and constructive challenge to strengthen HHC's global advocacy approach, helping sharpen our positioning, messaging and campaign strategy on care reform.
- Policy and financing influence — advising the Board and Executive on opportunities to influence the decisions of governments, regional bodies and multilateral institutions, and supporting efforts to shift public and donor financing away from orphanages and towards family-based care.
- EDI leadership — championing equity, diversity and inclusion across Board governance, organisational culture, safeguarding, and HHC's external voice, including how we portray the children, families and communities we support.
- Stakeholder relationships — using your personal networks and credibility to open doors with policymakers, multilateral bodies, coalition partners and international fora relevant to care reform.
Who we are looking for
You will bring senior-level experience in public policy, government relations or international advocacy, ideally connected to child protection, social welfare or human rights, and a demonstrable track record of influencing policy or financing decisions at national, regional or international level. Beyond that, we are looking for someone who brings:
- A strong, practical understanding of equity, diversity and inclusion principles and how to apply them to governance and organisational culture
- An active network among policymakers, multilateral institutions, donors or the wider international child rights community
- Experience working across cultures and in international contexts, including in lower income countries and fragile and conflict-affected states
- The ability to translate specialist expertise into clear, practical guidance the Board and Executive can act on
Above all, you will share our belief that every child deserves to grow up in the love and safety of a family, and our commitment to driving that change with courage, integrity, excellence and being deeply human.
What we offer
This is a voluntary, unremunerated role. In return you will:
- Engage with our work across nine countries
- Contribute to systemic change at global scale, helping to shape the future for separated children worldwide
- Be part of an organisation approaching its 2030 goal — a worldwide consensus that orphanages have no place in any child's life
Time commitment
The role requires approximately 12–18 days per year, comprising:
- Four Board meetings per year (in person, London or virtual)
- Five subcommittee meetings per year (virtual), as a key member of our Programmes, Advocacy, Research and Accountability Committee (PARAC)
- An annual two-day awayday, which may take place in one of our countries of operation
- Additional time for preparation, ad hoc queries and induction in your first year
The initial term of office is three years, with the possibility of two further three-year terms by mutual agreement.
Closing Date: The final cut off for applications is 17.00 UK time on Thursday 8 October 2026 so please get in touch if you have the right skills, experience and passion for our cause.
To apply, please upload your CV and a brief covering letter indicating why you are interested in joining the Hope and Homes for Children Board and how your experience, skills and values map to the requirements of this role.
Diversity
Hope and Homes for Children actively encourages equity, diversity and inclusion, and we look to recruit a diverse range of people to reflect the communities in which we live. We are keen to see a diverse membership of both the trustee body and committees as we believe diversity brings us closer to our mission of eliminating orphanages.

The Consortium for the Accreditation of Sonographic Education (CASE) is a collaboration of professional bodies and scientific societies established to set and uphold standards of training and education in clinical ultrasound (sonography) in the UK. This is achieved through accreditation of sonographic courses. CASE works closely with universities and other higher-education institutions to ensure the highest standards are met.
CASE is a not-for-profit organisation which relies on volunteers to commit their time to ensure the students who graduate from our accredited courses do so with the best in education, mentor support and clinical competency and thus preparing the sonographic workforce of the future.
The Member Organisations that make up the Consortium are:
- The British Medical Ultrasound Society
- The Chartered Society of Physiotherapy
- The College of Radiographers
- The College and Society for Vascular Science
- The Royal College of Podiatry
Further information on CASE can be seen on our website
In over 20 years of operation, the reputation of CASE accreditation as the accepted standard for sonographic education in the UK has grown and become accepted across the NHS and independent sector healthcare providers. In the busy and pressurised context of healthcare provision and diagnosis, CASE accreditation provides the reassurance that a sonographer has been trained to a high standard.
The group of member organisations that provide strategic oversight has operated as a relatively informal collaboration but is now looking to become a legally constituted company.
About the role
CASE is seeking to appoint a part time Independent Chair to provide supportive leadership for the Member Organisations Group.
The Chair of CASE will:
- Chair the Case Member Organisations’ Board which meets virtually on a quarterly basis, allocating additional time for meeting preparation and follow up. Administrative support is provided by the BMUS.
- Build relationships with Sonography policy leaders within the member organisations and with their representatives that make up the CASE committee, from which the programme of accreditation activity and the setting of standards is conducted. This would usually be via the Committee chair.
- Take part with Board members in increasing the influence of CASE at health policy level across the UK
- Ensure that the Board develops a clear strategy for incorporation, financial sustainability and continuing growth.
- Work with the CASE Committee Chair to ensure direct communication channels between the strategic and operational arms of CASE are maintained;
- Ensure that the MOs adhere to the terms of reference as set out in the Consortium’s Memorandum of Agreement;
- Act as advisor for the CASE Coordinator regarding actions and issues pertinent to the MOs;
- Provide an independent perspective to ensure the accuracy and quality of strategic CASE documentation including the business strategy, risk register, and policy documents;
- Collaborate with the CASE Co-ordinator to ensure an annual report is produced, providing a record of activity across the CASE year.
Term of Office
The Chair is appointed for a 2-year term. An extension to the term of office is possible by mutual agreement between the individual and the member organisations.
Expected Time Commitment
Variable, but up to 4 days per year for meetings plus up to 4 days for dealing with documentation, emails and actions.
Compensation
This is a volunteer role, but reasonable expenses will be reimbursed.
The person
- A proven track record of organisational and leadership skills with an ability to motivate and bring people together.
- Experience of committee work and management of meetings.
- Strong inter-personal and relationship skills.
- Ability to be impartial, discreet and exercise sound judgement.
- Excellent communication skills, with an ability to listen and engage effectively and respond with tact and diplomacy.
- Partnership working is critical to this role and the candidate will need to be able to demonstrate strong influencing, negotiating and collaborative skills.
- An interest in the delivery of high quality clinical services is required but previous experience in health care is not essential.
How to apply
If you are interested in chairing the CASE Member Organisations’ Board, please apply by 22 September 2026.
Applications should include a CV and a cover letter outlining the skills and experience you would bring to the role, and why you are personally interested in leading CASE.
Interviews will be held online
The client requests no contact from agencies or media sales.

About us: Could you help us get millions of separated children Back to Family?

A century of evidence shows that the bond between a child and their family is what every child needs to grow, thrive and be safe.
The role
As our Programmes Trustee, you will bring senior international development or humanitarian programmes expertise to our Board, helping to strengthen the quality, scale and impact of HHC's work across nine countries. Working closely with our Chair, CEO and Director of Global Programmes, you will contribute to our ambitious 2030 goal by:
- Programmes leadership — drawing on your senior experience to provide strategic oversight and constructive challenge on HHC's programme delivery, quality assurance and evidence base, helping ensure our work delivers real and lasting change for children and families.
- Systems change — advising the Board and Executive on how to drive and sustain national-level care reform across the diverse contexts in which HHC operates, including fragile and conflict-affected settings.
- Humanitarian financing — supporting HHC's ambitions to transform how the humanitarian sector finances work addressing children in orphanages and those at risk of family separation, drawing on your understanding of macro-level financing mechanisms and how they can be influenced.
- Safeguarding and risk — contributing to the Board's oversight of the risk, regulatory and safeguarding context for an international organisation working directly with vulnerable children and families.
Who we are looking for
You will bring senior leadership experience in a programmes function within an NGO, multilateral organisation, government body or major funder — particularly in work with marginalised children, families and communities. Beyond that, we are looking for someone who brings:
- A track record of overseeing or leading programmes at scale across multiple countries or regions, including in lower income, middle income or fragile and conflict-affected settings
- Extensive experience of programme strategy, quality assurance, monitoring, evaluation and learning, and of using evidence to drive decision-making
- A sound understanding of the international development and humanitarian sector, including donor landscapes and the operating environment for international NGOs
- Experience of working in partnership with local government and other stakeholders to bring about systems change
Above all, you will share our belief that every child deserves to grow up in the love and safety of a family, and our commitment to driving that change with courage, integrity, excellence and being deeply human.

Help build a more sustainable future — and make your expertise count
What if your experience in sustainability, health, safety and environmental management could do more than support an organisation’s compliance?
What if you could help shape how an international organisation operates, build sustainable practices from the ground up, and contribute to programmes designed to improve lives and break the cycle of poverty?
Project Yananai is looking for an experienced and purpose-driven Head of Sustainability to lead this work.
Project Yananai specialises in poverty alleviation programmes through sustainable skills development and compassionate humanitarian aid, working with communities and partners internationally to create lasting, positive change.
This is an opportunity to take genuine ownership of our sustainability agenda and help embed strong health, safety and environmental standards across an evolving international organisation.
The opportunity
As Head of Sustainability, you will provide strategic leadership across health, safety and environmental sustainability, ensuring these principles are embedded into our programmes, operations and organisational culture.
You will have the opportunity to build, influence and shape — developing policies and frameworks, working with teams across different countries and cultures, identifying risks and opportunities, and helping establish the standards that will support Project Yananai as it grows.
This is a role for someone who wants to use their professional expertise for meaningful social impact and who is excited by the opportunity to build something rather than simply maintain what already exists.
What you’ll do
- Lead the Sustainability Strategy
- Develop and implement a practical, forward-looking sustainability strategy aligned with Project Yananai’s mission and international operations, ensuring health, safety and environmental considerations are integrated across our programmes.
- Build strong HSE frameworks
- Develop and establish effective policies, procedures and protocols covering health, safety and environmental management, helping create a consistent approach across our global operations.
- Influence and collaborate globally
- Work closely with international teams, local communities, partners and stakeholders to understand sustainability challenges, identify risks and develop solutions that are practical, culturally appropriate and capable of creating lasting impact.
- Build a culture of sustainability
- Design and deliver engaging training and awareness initiatives for staff and volunteers, helping embed sustainability, health and safety into everyday decision-making and organisational culture.
- Measure impact and drive improvement
- Develop appropriate measures to monitor the effectiveness of sustainability initiatives, using data and insight to identify opportunities for improvement and communicate progress to stakeholders.
- Champion sustainability externally
- Represent Project Yananai on sustainability matters and help develop relationships with relevant governmental, non-governmental and other organisations to strengthen our expertise, partnerships and impact.
What we’re looking for
We’re looking for someone who combines professional expertise with a genuine desire to create positive change.
You will ideally bring:
- 3+ years’ experience in sustainability management, health and safety, environmental management or a related field.
- Experience developing and implementing sustainability, HSE or environmental strategies.
- Strong understanding of relevant policies, standards, risk management and compliance.
- The ability to translate strategy into practical policies, processes and measurable outcomes.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
- The confidence to work across cultures, countries and different organisational environments.
- A collaborative and pragmatic approach, with the ability to influence without relying solely on formal authority.
- A genuine commitment to social impact, environmental responsibility and community empowerment.
- Experience within the charity, non-profit or international development sector would be advantageous, but it is not essential.
Why join Project Yananai?
- Make your expertise matter
- Use your professional experience to help shape an organisation focused on tackling poverty and creating sustainable opportunities for communities.
- Build something from the ground up
- This is an opportunity to have real ownership and influence. You won’t simply be stepping into an established framework — you’ll help create it.
- Work internationally
- Collaborate with colleagues, communities and stakeholders across different countries and cultural environments.
- Make a lasting contribution
- Help establish the standards, culture and practices that can support Project Yananai’s growth and long-term impact.
- Flexible and purpose-driven
- The role is designed as a flexible voluntary opportunity that can work alongside your existing professional or personal commitments, with remote working and periodic travel.
Could this be your next opportunity to make a difference?
If you’re an experienced sustainability, health, safety or environmental professional who wants to apply your expertise to something with genuine social purpose, we’d love to hear from you.
This is an opportunity to bring your knowledge, challenge conventional thinking and help build sustainable practices that can support meaningful impact for years to come.
Project Yananai is a UK-registered charity (No. 1209060) and an equal opportunity organisation. We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds, cultures and experiences.
Empowering individuals, strengthening communities, developing sustainable solutions.

About The Refugee Council
The Refugee Council is the nation’s refugee charity. Together with community groups, partners and volunteers, we help people who have escaped war and persecution to rebuild their lives, integrate into communities, and play their part in Britain. Born in the aftermath of World War II, our frontline services support over 14,000 refugees each year to find safety, get to know their neighbours, and enter education, training or work. We share our evidence and expertise with policymakers to help build integrated communities where everyone can contribute.
We have offices across the UK where our Services teams provide support to refugees at the local level.
Inclusion and Accessibility
Ensuring that the Refugee Council is an inclusive and accessible place to work is important to us. We want to enable people from different backgrounds to apply and thrive with us. We believe our recruitment process enables that and are also happy to make adjustments on request.
Our Values
Our values underpin everything we do:
- Inclusive: We are inclusive. We work with – not for – refugees and people seeking asylum so they have an equal voice, co-producing projects and ensuring their expertise and experiences are at the heart of what we do.
- Collaborative: We are collaborative. Working with others is a priority in order to have the collective impact that is vital to achieve policy and practice reform.
- Courageous: We speak out when we see injustice, cruelty and unfairness. We always stand up for what we believe is the right thing to do to transform the experiences of those seeking protection in our country.
- Respectful: We are respectful of all those we interact with. We treat everyone – our staff, volunteers, beneficiaries, partners and people we disagree with – with the same respect, professionalism and understanding.
About the Role
As a Volunteer, you will support with several aspects of the Childhood First Partnership. This will include the administration of the Community of Practice, which will launch to age dispute practitioners in late 2026. You will also support with communications for the Partnership, such as newsletters. Finally, you will be involved with the activities of the Youth Support Collective, such as supporting with co-production projects and facilitating ice-breaker activities in sessions if you wish.
You will work under the supervision of the Childhood First Partnership Officer, and also the Partnership Manager. This volunteering role would suit someone who has an interest in working with young people, learning about the asylum system, and developing workplace and administrative skills.
Hours: 4 hours per week - any day, Monday to Friday.
How we support our Volunteers
Volunteers are valued members of our teams, and we provide them with support and development opportunities. Volunteers will receive regular planned support sessions with their supervisors.
Refugee Council allows volunteers to attend our professional training courses when needed for the role, free of charge. Training will be discussed with you during support sessions with your supervisor.
Volunteers will be given an IT account, a Refugee Council email address, access to our Hub and online courses whilst volunteering with us. Equipment will be provided as and when needed for the role.
Through sponsorship from the Marsh Charitable Trust, Refugee Council also provides volunteers with the opportunity to design and set-up a new service for new clients. There will be an opportunity to discuss this with your supervisor.
Volunteer roles are unpaid, but we will reimburse volunteers for lunch and travel costs according to our expense policy. Unfortunately, our limited budget only allows for local travelling costs.
Let’s work together to improve the lives of refugees in the UK – apply on our website today.
Closing date: 18 September 2026.
We encourage early applications as we reserve the right to close the vacancy early if we receive a high number of applications.

Babylon Migrants Project, currently a CIC, is embarking on an exciting journey to become a registered charity. We’re looking for a Finance Advisor to support us through this important transition period, eventually becoming our charity Treasurer.
Babylon Migrants Project is a grassroots arts organisation led by and for young people from refugee, asylum-seeking and migrant backgrounds. We deliver creative and community-building activities that support displaced young people to build creative skills, confidence and support networks as they navigate life in the UK.
We work with young people aged 16–30 who are facing isolation, systemic barriers and a lack of safe and relaxed spaces. Our work takes place across our two hubs in London and Stoke-on-Trent, where participants take part in creative workshops led by expert facilitators, supported by a welcoming team of staff and volunteers.
Our three key aims are:
- Reducing social isolation amongst young people from refugee and asylum-seeking backgrounds
- Growing lived experienced leadership across the arts and refugee sectors
- Shaping more informed and human conversations about migration
We are in the process of registering as a charity, which will hopefully unlock vital funding and help us to grow as an organisation, ultimately supporting more young people in need. We are looking for a finance expert who, in addition to contributing generally advisory board (and subsequently, trustee board meetings), can support our ambition by:
- Advising on financial matters, particularly through the transition to becoming a charity
- Supporting us to improve financial processes
- Contributing to our understanding of the risks facing our organisation
- Supporting us to comply with HMRC requirements
- Helping us to create financial forecasts for the future as we develop and expand.
We currently have an Advisory Board that has no legal responsibility, the members of which we hope will stay on as Trustees of the new charity. The expertise represented by the current board are: fundraising, safeguarding, communications, and strategy & business planning. We therefore seek a finance expert to help ensure the success of the transition to charitable status, and who can hold responsibility for finances and risk for the new charity.
As our organisation is led by lived experience, we would particularly encourage applications from people from migrant or refugee backgrounds.
Who are we looking for?
- Formal finance qualification
- Experience/understanding of financial forecasting, payroll, corporation tax & charity accounting
- Experience of being on a trustee board before, particularly in a role relating to finance (preferable)
- Lived experience of migration or displacement (preferable)
- Willingness to attend quarterly advisory board meetings (and subsequently, trustee board meetings) as well as provide more ad hoc financial advice to the directors.
- Ability to operate at both strategic and practical levels
- Willingness to speak one's mind, listen to the views of others and constructively challenge
- Willingness to commit the necessary time and effort to being a board member (roughly 1 day per quarter, possibly rising to 2 where required).
- Commitment to our vision and values
As a financial advisor and later trustee with responsibility for finances and risk, you will help ensure the financial sustainability and compliance of the organisation, helping to ensure we can maintain and grow our support for young people from refugee and asylum-seeking backgrounds, at a time when support is needed more than ever.
