Championing Animal Welfare at the Heart of Global Communities

Around the world, 100 million working horses, donkeys and mules power the daily lives of an estimated 600 million people. They carry food, water and goods, support small businesses and enable families to build more secure livelihoods. When these animals struggle, communities struggle with them - many face preventable suffering due to harsh environments, limited access to veterinary care and the pressures of poverty.

Brooke exists to change this. As the leading international charity dedicated to improving the welfare of working equines, we reach more than 1.4 million animals and 1.1 million people each year across South Asia, Africa and Central America. Our approach spans community-led programmes, systems strengthening, advocacy, and partnerships that help improve animal welfare and support community resilience.

As we prepare to launch our next global strategy, we seek two new Trustees, with expertise in Fundraising and in Safeguarding, to join our Board and guide Brooke through our next chapter.

For the Fundraising Trustee, you will bring broad-based senior fundraising expertise to support Brooke in continuing to diversify and grow our income sustainably. Acting as a strategic partner to the executive team, you will contribute to long‑term planning, investment decisions and supporter engagement, strengthening our financial resilience and global impact.

For the Safeguarding Trustee, your deep expertise will support the continual improvement of safeguarding across Brooke’s international operations. With significant experience in safeguarding within complex global or humanitarian contexts, you will support strong risk management, ethical practice and robust standards across our work worldwide.

For both roles, we seek individuals with a strong commitment to Brooke’s mission and values, sound judgement, and the ability to provide constructive challenge within an inclusive Board. First‑time trustees with relevant expertise are welcome.

Required Skills and Experience​

We are Alex, The Leukodystrophy Charity (Alex TLC).

Alex TLC is a trusted and experienced organisation offering support and information for all those affected by a genetic leukodystrophy. Formerly ALD Life, an internationally recognised centre of excellence for people affected by adrenoleukodystrophy and adrenomyeloneuropathy, the charity was established in 2004.

Due to popular demand, we extended our services to support all leukodystrophies in 2019 and became Alex, The Leukodystrophy Charity.

Like many other small charities, we have grown organically from an informal support group to the recognised voice for adrenoleukodystrophy patients and their families. Our charitable work is supported by our chain of five charity shops across south east London.

With scant resources we are always in need of trustworthy and reliable volunteers to assist retail staff.

OVERALL PURPOSE OF ROLE

MAIN ACTIVITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Using the voluntary working practices, policies, procedures and values set by Alex TLC, work with paid staff to ensure the charity shop business is run accordingly.

Work to the high standards expected at all Alex TLC shop premises according to the requests of the Shop Manager.

Work as a team member, taking full responsibility for all shop duties undertaken.

Participate in all training and legislative checks required by Alex TLC, statutory and specific to role.

CUSTOMER RESPONSIBILITIES (INTERNAL & EXTERNAL)

Maintain excellent levels of customer service (remembering customer service extends to colleagues and service providers, as well as customers), going above and beyond where possible.

TECHNICAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Expert knowledge of the safe and correct use of all equipment used in the day to day running of the charity shop, for example the till, steamer, pricing equipment. Training is provided.

Role Description

Founded in 2014, Ygam has evolved into the UK’s leading charity in this area, delivering impact-focused training and education across the UK to those in positions of influence over children and young people.

We are in the third year of our “Safeguarding our Digital Generation” strategy, and we will begin the process to appoint our new Chief Executive later this year. As our current Chair comes to the end of their term this year, we are looking for a visionary leader to join our board and help shape the future of harm prevention.

This is a unique opportunity to lead the board at a critical time when digital safeguarding has never been more important.

Our Befriending Project supports people who are socially isolated in Ealing and Hounslow. They may have a physical or sensory disability, or they may have mild dementia, and are sometimes housebound.

This is an opportunity to become a Befriender.

On successful completion of the training, Befrienders are matched with someone who lives close to them.

They make a weekly 1-2 hour visit to the client's home, where they might stay in and chat over a cup of tea or, where possible, go out for a walk together, visit a café or undertake a local activity.

These visits make such a difference for the client, but volunteering with BEfriend not only enriches the lives of those who are isolated, it also offers immense personal rewards.

CPRE Buckinghamshire is seeking a Treasurer to join our small, committed team, to oversee our charity's financial affairs. This role is ideal for someone with a financial management background who also cares about the environment.

CPRE Buckinghamshire champions the countryside and promotes sustainable land use. We advocate for responsible planning, the protection of green spaces, and we engage with local and national decision-makers, as well as the local community. We're looking for someone who is dependable, methodical, and quietly confident in managing financial responsibilities. You'll be comfortable working with numbers, keeping clear records, and helping us plan ahead. You'll bring a practical mindset to budgeting and reporting, and be able to explain financial matters in a way that's accessible to others.

You will:

• Maintain oversight of income, expenditure, and budgeting

• Prepare financial reports and ensure compliance with legal requirements

• Manage transactions and process payments

• Attend our bi-monthly Trustee meetings and other regular meetings

• Advise the board on financial sustainability and planning

• Share our commitment to protecting Buckinghamshire's countryside

• Be motivated by a belief in CPRE's mission and keen to make a difference locally.

This is a voluntary role, with a time commitment of no more than 2 days a month. Our team usually works remotely, but we do try to meet in person from time to time. Reasonable expenses are reimbursed.

THE ROLE

We’re looking for a motivated and conscientious volunteer to support our Business Development Team with fundraising and income generation. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute your skills, learn something new, or support meaningful social change.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

· Research trusts, foundations, and grant opportunities

· Support the drafting of funding bids and proposals

· Help maintain our grants pipeline and CRM data

· Assist with donor stewardship and relationship building

· Identify new partnerships or income opportunities

· Prepare briefings or summaries for the team

We’re looking for someone who is IT‑literate and ideally has some relevant skills or experience to bring, but you don’t need to have done fundraising before. Enthusiasm, reliability, and a willingness to learn are what really count.

About the opportunity

Joining a dynamic and passionate Board, the ideal candidate will provide expert oversight, guidance, and support for the Charity’s strategic objectives and as Chair of the People & Remuneration Committee, work closely with senior leadership on current and future strategic People (HR) matters.

Skills & experience required

• Senior strategic leadership and management experience.

• Demonstrable expertise in people & culture, strategy, recognition, reward and organisational development.

• An inclusive leader, with good interpersonal and relationship building skills.

• Independent judgement and strong communication skills.

• Act with integrity and respect when working with others.

• Previous experience as a trustee (desirable).
