JOB DESCRIPTION
Coping with a diagnosis of a terminal or life-limiting illness involves painful feelings, coming to terms with loss and making adjustments in life.
We are looking for volunteers to offer emotional and/or bereavement support either in a group setting through facilitation of support groups, or on one to one individual basis. You will be helping people to explore their feelings and adapt to their new life after a diagnosis or the death of a loved one.
This role is supporting patients and families who are over 18 only.
Your role will include some of, but is not restricted to, the following tasks:
- Provide emotional and/or bereavement support either in the hospice, in a small group setting, over the phone or at the person’s home, according to local resources.
- Actively listen to clients and explore their feelings around the diagnosis/loss with empathy
- Pass on appropriate information to your line manager.
- Complete appropriate documentation as required in line with our confidentiality (service user) policy.
- Assist staff in the Patient and Family Support team when necessary
- Adhere to hospice record keeping procedures
- Assist with other related tasks when necessary

About White Ribbon Alliance UK: We prioritise the eradication of gender-based violence and the promotion of gender equity in sexual and reproductive health and rights, especially for marginalised and underrepresented communities. We enable access to unbiased and evidenced-based resources, education, and support for women, girls, and trans individuals. We influence healthcare professionals, hospital systems, policy makers, and the public to centre the human rights of women, girls and trans men, intersex, and non-binary people throughout the lifecycle of their sexual health needs.
Purpose of the Role: The Volunteer Research Assistant will support White Ribbon Alliance UK's efforts to improve maternal and reproductive health by conducting research, analysing data, and contributing to reports and publications. This role is crucial for informing our advocacy and program development.
Our aspirations for activities the volunteer would perform:

We are seeking a Trustee Treasurer to help to manage our finances and investments, as well as being involved in strategic decision-making and grant giving.

The Lipman Miliband Trust funds socialist research and education as well as “educational activities that raise public awareness and understanding of struggles and movements for peace, human rights and a more equal, diverse co-operative and democratic society.”
The Trust was established by socialist businessman Michael Lipman in 1974 and academic Ralph Miliband until his death in 1994. We are celebrating fifty years of the Trust’s existence this year – and looking forward to the next 50!
Having benefited from a significant increase in resources in recent years we have started on an exciting new phase of our development that has meant increasing staff support and expanding our outreach, fund-raising and grant-giving activities. We are currently a Board of ten trustees and we are now seeking a Trustee Treasurer who shares our values and our belief in the vital importance of socialist education.
About the role
You will work with our Trust Coordinator as well as external advisors and accountants in helping to manage our finances and investments, and be a member of our Governance and Finance Working Group. Our finances and investments are critical to the success of our work so we are looking for someone with experience of financial management and/or accounting, as well as some level of experience in understanding and/or managing investments. This is a voluntary, unpaid post, but we are happy to pay for appropriate additional training and there will be a lot of support from the Trust Coordinator and other trustees.
Being a Trustee is a significant commitment and responsibility, but it is also hugely rewarding. The role will require you to attend each of our four Trustee meetings a year, and to participate in regular online meetings of the Finance & Governance Working Group. You will be part of strategic decision-making about the Trust, contribute towards the Trust’s governance and take part in decisions about grant awards.
We are based in different locations around the country and most of our work is conducted online, however we aim to meet in-person as a Board at least twice a year.

What will I be doing?

Fight for gender equity through system-level change by educating about and advocating for living in sync with your cycle.
Period Reality aims to address period related issues and stories by sharing the real life stories from girls and women globally. Although half the population experiences a menstrual cycle, the stark contrast in the different realities of girls and women is very real and through storytelling we aim to educate and provide relatable content.
Through sharing stories from girls and women focused on their common humanities. Even though our realities might be very different depending on many factors (physical, geographical, socio-economical, mental etc.) we all share a lot of the same questions, worries, dreams, anxieties, ambitious etc. Making these stories relatable and accessible will educate and inspire and create a movement of girls and women being able to first and foremost understand their own cycle, in order to be kind to themselves.

Do you resonate with their mission and vision to bring advocacy and education around this particular element of women's health that is rarely talked about? Do you want to help break down taboos? As part of the Education Team, you will be essential in creating the curriculum and educational programs in countries around the world. If so, the Education Team here at Period Reality wants you to join their international team of passionate educators and curriculum designers!

Spearhead the growth of communities within their app by either creating your own vibrant space or rallying existing communities to transition to their platform. Reach out to women, both known and unknown, to invite them to join or create communities within their app, showcasing the benefits of their platform for fostering meaningful connections and support networks. Act as a catalyst for community building, inspiring women to embrace the power of collective strength and solidarity within our digital ecosystem. Qualifications: Passion for women's safety and a commitment to fostering inclusive communities. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to engage and motivate others, whether in person or through digital channels. Proactive mindset with the ability to take initiative and drive community growth independently. Experience in community building, social networking, or grassroots organizing is a plus but not required. Develop a comprehensive PR strategy to generate buzz and media attention around their app launch. Execute the PR strategy, leveraging creativity and resourcefulness to maximize exposure with minimal budget. Continuously evaluate the effectiveness of PR efforts and adapt strategies based on insights and feedback. Take ownership of day-to-day PR activities, making autonomous decisions while keeping the team informed. Embrace a proactive approach to management, embodying mission command principles to drive results. Qualifications: A passion for women's safety and a genuine desire to make a positive impact. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with a knack for crafting compelling messages. Fluent in either English or Spanish, with proficiency in both languages being a plus.
