Our Shop Volunteers raise money for the people we support with a Learning Disability. Do you have a few hours a week to spare and share your time with us?

Calling All Book Lovers! Volunteer at Our New Acorns Book Shop in Pershore

Love books? Want to make a difference in your community? Acorns Children’s Hospice is thrilled to announce the addition of a book shop within our superstore and we need you!

As part of our network of shops across the Midlands, the Pershore Superstore helps us generate vital funds to support children and their families. By volunteering in our new store, you’ll play a key role in this mission while sharing your passion for books.

Step into a dynamic and exciting environment where no two days are the same!

As a shop volunteer you will.

• Organise and Catalogue books, journals, and other materials to keep our collection well-ordered and accessible.
• Assist Visitors in finding the right books and resources, ensuring they have a great experience.
• Engage with Customers by offering friendly service, answering queries, and creating a welcoming atmosphere.
• Curate and Sort Donations by arranging shelves, selecting featured titles, and helping process new book donations.

How Much Time Will It Take?

Our shop is open Monday to Saturday, 9am–6pm, and Sundays, 10am–4pm. You can choose the hours that suit you, but we’d love for you to volunteer at least 3 hours a week.

Full Training Provided
No prior experience is required—just enthusiasm and a love for books! While previous experience is a plus, it's not essential. We’ll provide all the training and support you need to succeed

Volunteering in our shops offers a variety of exciting tasks. From sorting, steaming, and pricing donations to spotting hidden gems, you'll roll up your sleeves in the backroom and assist on the shop floor. Engaging with customers is key, whether you're serving with a smile, working the till or helping donors complete Gift Aid forms.

Creating a warm, friendly and inviting space is just as important. You'll help design eye-catching window displays, keep the space tidy, and use your creativity to ensure everything looks its best, encouraging customers to return.

No special skills are needed as we’ll show you what to do, and we provide all the training you’ll need. But if you have any experience or particular interest, tell us; it may be helpful.

At Nottingham Contemporary, we believe in the power of contemporary art to inspire, challenge and bring people together. We are in an important moment in Nottingham Contemporary’s history as we deliver a transformative process of rearticulating our purpose and shaping our future. This includes securing our long-term financial standing by developing and working towards ambitious and entrepreneurial income generation strategies and building on new and existing partnerships, members and supporters.

In particular, we are looking for trustees with expertise in one or more of the below areas:

• Financial Director/Accountant – with strong financial understanding and experience, you will be confident supporting Board members and the Senior Leadership Team with financial decisions and will Chair our Finance and Audit Committee.
• Gallerist/Art Consultant – with substantial experience in the commercial art world. We are especially interested in candidates who have a deep understanding of the art market and its networks and the ability to help strengthen the organisation’s relationships with patrons, collectors, galleries and other stakeholders in the cultural and commercial ecosystem.
• Artist – with strong knowledge of the UK and international arts sector, and an interest and experience working with cultural institutions. Ideally, you will bring knowledge of partnership working within cultural institutions; for example, experience of partnerships between universities or local government bodies, community partners and cultural organisations.
• Commercial or entrepreneurial experience – you will understand how to develop new income streams or commercialise strands of activities, identify cross selling opportunities, strategic partnerships, and advise on how to leverage assets to generate income and create sustainable business models. This role will chair the trading company.
