We are looking for new Board members to support our work and bring new skills, expertise and ideas for the future of our organisation.

At Nottingham Contemporary, we believe in the power of contemporary art to inspire, challenge and bring people together. We are in an important moment in Nottingham Contemporary’s history as we deliver a transformative process of rearticulating our purpose and shaping our future. This includes securing our long-term financial standing by developing and working towards ambitious and entrepreneurial income generation strategies and building on new and existing partnerships, members and supporters.

In particular, we are looking for trustees with expertise in one or more of the below areas:

• Financial Director/Accountant – with strong financial understanding and experience, you will be confident supporting Board members and the Senior Leadership Team with financial decisions and will Chair our Finance and Audit Committee.
• Gallerist/Art Consultant – with substantial experience in the commercial art world. We are especially interested in candidates who have a deep understanding of the art market and its networks and the ability to help strengthen the organisation’s relationships with patrons, collectors, galleries and other stakeholders in the cultural and commercial ecosystem.
• Artist – with strong knowledge of the UK and international arts sector, and an interest and experience working with cultural institutions. Ideally, you will bring knowledge of partnership working within cultural institutions; for example, experience of partnerships between universities or local government bodies, community partners and cultural organisations.
• Commercial or entrepreneurial experience – you will understand how to develop new income streams or commercialise strands of activities, identify cross selling opportunities, strategic partnerships, and advise on how to leverage assets to generate income and create sustainable business models. This role will chair the trading company.

Touch Wood is a wood recycling and upcycling initiative, which collects surplus and waste wood and timber and gives it a new lease of life, preventing it from being burned, chipped, or dumped in landfill.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

* Preparing wood for resale

* Assisting with the construction of wooden products, from small household items to pieces of furniture

Our Touch Wood volunteers are able to gain skills in practical woodworking, as we offer hands-on experience of working with reclaimed timber; from making basic lumber products ready for resale, through to assisting with the creation of bespoke items, such as kitchen equipment and home and garden furniture.

Full training in woodworking and health and safety is provided, along with Personal Protection Equipment.

The UK generates around 5 million tonnes of wood waste every year, but less than 1% is reused. Touch Wood rescues waste timber that would otherwise be landfilled or turned into woodchip; creating jobs and training opportunities for disadvantaged local people at the same time. We collect from construction sites, industrial estates and other commercial sources, reclaiming everything from pallets to indoor cycle tracks – you name it, we take it! Anything we can’t reuse is locally recycled, so nothing goes to waste. This reduces the carbon emissions associated with disposing of waste wood, offers cost savings for DIY enthusiasts, and provides training and job potential to volunteers in the workshop. Some of the timber we work with comes from high profile sources, including the entire track of the Manchester Velodrome cycling centre and wood removed in the recent refurbishment of Manchester’s historic Town Hall!

Our skilled team of staff and volunteers often use reclaimed timber to create beautiful and practical products, such as home and garden furniture. We regularly create bespoke pieces to order; some of it for famous clients like Olympic cycling champions Jason and Laura Kenny, for whom we made a table from the Manchester Velodrome track.

Please be advised that our volunteers require a fair level of physical fitness and manual dexterity as the role is entirely practical.

Our Touch Wood workshop and wood store is open Mon-Fri, 8.30am - 4pm.
We occupy a unit at Maynard House, inside New Smithfield Market, in Openshaw, North Manchester, which is accessed from the main entrance on Whitworth Street East (off Ashton Old Road). The site is served well by buses, and we have free parking onsite, as well as secure storage racks for pushbikes.

​IMPORTANT NOTE:
You must be resident in the UK and living in Greater Manchester, or within easy commuting distance of our base, in order to volunteer with us. There are no exceptions to this rule. This is because we require volunteers to be able to reliably commit to regular shifts for some of our roles. We are unable to offer sponsorship for overseas applicants.

About the Role

We are Buttons & Bubbles C.I.C. and our mission is to increase inclusion and representation for disabled families across society. We offer a variety of services including bespoke characters, workshops, free resources, events, sensory trails, and more.

We are looking for volunteers to help source, sell, and send clothes on Vinted to raise money for our services. This role is not about listing your own items but about sourcing donated items from others that we can then sell to support our work.

Why we want you

We’re seeking friendly, reliable individuals aged 18 or over who want to make a

difference in their community by helping their local Oxfam shop to stay open

for as long possible. We need people to open and close the shop, and ensure

volunteers know what tasks to undertake so the shop can run smoothly.

No prior experience is needed, as we provide full training. If you’re open to

learning, enjoy working with others, and have a passion for helping people,

you’ll fit right in!

You have the time to become a volunteer in your community; you might be

looking for work experience, the opportunity to meet new people, or keep

active.

By volunteering with us in one of our amazing retail spaces

you will be raising essential funds for Oxfam – all whilst

learning new skills and meeting some incredible people.

What you will be doing

Undertaking shop related tasks agreed with the Manager, for example:

Opening or closing the shop.

Ensuring that the shop is ready to trade or cashing up at the end of trade

Allocating tasks to members of the volunteer team.

Selecting, sorting, and pricing donated stock.

Chatting to customers, giving great service on the till.

Researching valuable and vintage stock.

Visual merchandising: creating eye-catching window and in-store displays.

Photographing and listing items for the online shop.

This role may include occasionally lifting boxes. We prioritise a safe

working environment and provide comprehensive health and safety

training to all volunteers.

Role Summary

Quilombo UK is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Services Sales Specialist to join our team as a self-employed contractor. This is a crucial, target-driven, commission-only role focused on generating revenue by converting prospective service users into paying clients.The successful candidate will gain direct, high-impact sales experience that mirrors the standards and performance expectations of a paid sales position, with the added benefit of earning commission on all confirmed deals.

Compensation Structure

● Payment Basis: This is a commission-only, self-employed contractor position. There is no fixed salary or hourly wage. The specialist is responsible for invoicing Quilombo UK monthly for earned commission.

● Commission: Commission is earned per converted sale, payable only after the customer’s second monthly payment is successfully processed.

○ Standard £200 ePDP Sale: £25 commission

○ Subsidized £100 Sale: £10 commission

○ 2-Month Rolling Sale: £65 commission

● Payment Schedule: Commission earned is paid monthly, 30 days after receipt of the monthly invoice from the specialist, following the trigger (receipt of the customer's second payment) being confirmed.

Main Responsibilities

This is a target-driven, client-facing role responsible for the full sales cycle:

● Lead Generation: Proactively research and identify prospective clients aligned with Quilombo UK’s mission and services.

● Outreach & Pitching: Initiate direct outreach (calls, emails, online meetings) with clients directly.

● Closing Deals: Deliver compelling sales pitches and presentations, handle end-to-end sales processes, and secure contracts for services.

We offer high street to designer names, tea sets to linens, vinyl to hatpins, toys and books for all ages and plenty in between. 

Jeff and his team of superstar volunteers will do their best to help you find just the thing and the chance to buy a winning lottery ticket, too.

Considerations:

As a volunteer Charity Shop Assistant, you would join a small team working with the shop manager and 1-2 other volunteers to help make it a success and raise vital funds for animal welfare.
