We are the only national non-profit supporting people in the UK impacted by borderline personality disorder (BPD). We provide peer support, signposting, information and advice to individuals living with BPD, their families and carers. 

About the Role

Our busy support services team is seeking a reliable and organised volunteer to assist the signposting service. You will respond to queries from health and social care professionals and service users. In addition, you will provide administrative support to the team and processing referrals emailed into the service.

Responsibilities in this role include:

• Providing information and advice to health and social professionals and service users
• Processing new referrals
• Navigating and inputting information into our secure database, handling client data and sensitive information
• Explaining confidentiality to health and social care professionals and service users and seeking consent to store or share information where necessary
• Signposting and referring callers to appropriate alternative services as required

Who are we looking for?

The ideal volunteer will have:

• An understanding of the issues faced by people impacted by BPD, or willing to learn about this
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Good administrative and computer skills including proficient use of Microsoft Office
• A solid understanding of the importance of professional boundaries and confidentiality
• The ability to exercise a non-discriminatory, non-judgemental approach to supporting people
• A flexible approach to your work
• Strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise

Please note you will need a DBS check (if you do not have one, we can do that for you)and two references for this role.

Do you love to support and empower people? We are looking for compassionate champions to join our volunteer mentoring programme. Help mentees build confidence, get established in community and develop independence. The Build mentoring programme supports survivors of modern slavery. A volunteer mentor is paired with a co mentor meeting fortnightly in the community with a mentee; being a friendly support, setting goals, exploring opportunities and life skills. All volunteer mentors are supported and accountable to the Build Coordinators. This role is voluntary and unpaid (costs incurred for refreshments related to the mentor role will be reimbursed).

The Role

• To create a safe, compassionate, and healthy mentoring relationship
• Provide the mentee with tools and techniques to navigate a pathway to achieve things that are important to them
• Provide practical support to the mentee where appropriate (eg signposting)
• Support a mentee to identify and establish goals and life skills that are important to them
• Liaise with the mentee and fellow mentor to arrange safe and suitable meeting places including date and time
• Debrief with your co-mentor after each meeting and provide a brief written record of the discussion for the Mentoring Coordinator
• Work with your co-mentor to model ‘healthy community’
• Manage the trio’s refreshment expenses for reimbursement

• Mandatory checks including DBS
• Two satisfactory references

About the role

We are looking for Peer Group Facilitators (Black, Asian and minority ethnic communities) to support our Community Services in Bristol.

You will be based at St Pauls and, ideally will be able to commit one and a half hours per week to volunteering (14:30 to 16:00 on Wednesday's)

This role is dedicated to providing a safe space for people to discuss the impact of racism. You will be allowing the participants to lead the group and discuss change that could come about through different organisations - for example, how can organisations (mental health organisations/charities) change things to better support people.

About the role

We are looking for a Criminal Justice Volunteer (BME) to support our Bristol Community Service in Bristol. You will be based at St Pauls and, ideally, you will be able to commit one and a half hours per week to volunteering (14:30 to 16:00 on Tuesday's)

This group is a female only Black, Asian and minority ethnic criminal justice group aimed at women who have had experiences of racism in the criminal justice system. You will be facilitating the group and allowing the members to lead the conversation and speak about their experiences. Through facilitating the group, it is your responsibility to keep the conversation focused. You will also help the group to discuss changes that the members may want to see within the criminal justice system, and how this change can be implemented. Within this role, confidentiality is extremely important so you will be expected to share this value with the group.

• To be the first point of contact for the Mind in Somerset in North Somerset in the Citizens Advice offices

• To provide emotional listening support sessions on a short-term basis

• To effectively signpost clients to longer-term support either through Mind in Somerset services or partner providers in the area

Job title: Grief in Pieces – (Lived Experience) Volunteer

We are seeking a Lived Experience Volunteer to become part of our Grief in Pieces service. By joining Grief in Pieces, you’ll be helping to support others bereaved by suicide. You will play a role in creating positive change by sharing your experience and will make new connections with people with shared experiences.

Can you spare 3 hours or more a week to help us provide a confidential helpline for people with mild to moderate mental health problems, drug or alcohol problems? You will be part of a dynamic team of volunteers.

We answer calls predominantly from people in Surrey from 9 am to 7pm Monday to Friday:

• Providing listening and emotional support that is confidential.
• We are non judgemental and signpost to other agencies.
• Refer callers into treatment services.

No qualifications are needed as full training will be provided, but you will need a friendly and calm telephone manner with the ability to communicate effectively. We welcome volunteers from all backgrounds.

Our next training course is taking place online on 20th April and 27th April 2024.

Shift times are 9am to 12 noon, 12 to 3pm, 3 to 6pm and 6 to 7pmfts start at 9am). We require a minimum of one shift per fortnight. The Helpline is operated from your own home, at no cost to you.

Could you help prevent loneliness and isolation for people living with BPD and become a befriender?

• Do you have 1-2 hours a week to give to a service user suffering from BPD and feeling isolated or lonely?

About the role

We are looking for Digital Mapping Volunteers to support our Derbyshire Recovery and Peer Support & Living Well services and network.  You will be residing within Derbyshire community or surrounding area and, ideally, you will be able to commit up to 3 hours per week to volunteering.

The aim of our Community Mapping project is to provide easily accessible information on locations of other services, groups and community resources / assets available to our wider network.

You will work closely with a network of'nomad' volunteers across Derbyshire.  Nomad volunteers collect local grass roots information on support, points of interest and community assets available in the community were they live.  

As a Digital Mapping Volunteer, you will support other 'nomad' volunteers by updating the local information they collect on our digital Community Mental Health Support Map.

You will receive training and regular supervision to ensure you feel confident in your role.

About the service

Our Derbyshire services support people who are having difficulties with their mental health by offering targeted goal-focused support, developing peer support and volunteer opportunities across Derbyshire, and also peer support groups.

What you will be doing as a Nomad Community Mapping Volunteer

The aim of our service Digital Mapping Volunteers is to update and maintain the Digital Mental Health Support Map.  As part of the team you will support:

• Liaising with Group Development Workers and Community Mapping Nomad Volunteers for mapping information

• Inputting up-to-date information into our digital online Community Map

• Network with other local services for updates and changes to community support

• Workshop and network ideas for improvement to the mapping service and user experience

• Source and identify online collaborations for expansion and improvements to the project

• Liaising with Group Development Workers, providing updates

• Organise and file information updates into our system

You will support our Administrators and front line workers with a range of administrative functions to support them with their daily activities and workload. This will give you the opportunity to be involved with a variety of administrative duties including filing, writing notes and supporting the front line workers with the administrative preparations of their group delivery and updating of their client case notes.

This is a fantastic opportunity to use your organisational and administrative skills while gaining an understanding of the roles and support function of our front line services.

The volunteer role will be subject to prison vetting and security checks. This is in addition to what is required for community working.

Accountabilities 

Service Delivery – Client support tasks

· Support administrative staff and front line workers with data entry onto database system.

· Provide assistance at reception/in admin office answering and taking messages and transferring phone calls.

· To assist with filing and maintaining of administration records in an orderly user-friendly system. 

· Support front line staff with administrative paperwork required for group sessions or group meetings.

· To assist with minute taking.

· To maintain confidentiality and data protection principles, raising any issues with your line manager as appropriate.

Additional tasks

· Engage in support and supervision provided.

· To keep a good record of your work, including reporting verbally to their supervisor and completing relevant forms.

This may vary depending on your specific team and time commitment.

Expenses

• Travel expenses (within 20 miles of the service) 
• Up to £6.50 lunch expenses.
• Any additional expenses will need to be pre-agreed with placement supervisor.

Qualities

Below is a list of the qualities that we are looking for from volunteers:

· If in recovery, to be 6 months abstinence from all mood altering substances if in recovery.

· Must be over 18 years of age.

· Ability to use computers and IT equipment.

· To have good verbal and written communication skills.

· To have a clear understanding and maintain a high degree of confidentiality.

· To have a clear understanding of how to set and maintain boundaries.

· To have the ability to reflect and receive feedback.

· To be reliable, flexible and committed.

· Reference (this may be from a keyworker, volunteer supervisor, tutor or sponsor if you are not able to provide a work reference)

Our requirements:

All mentors must have had personal experience with body image issues, and are now in a position where they feel able to support someone else through their own.

Alongside this, we need you to:

• be over 25 years of age
• be able to complete around 6-8 hours of online training and assessment 
• successfully undergo all necessary safeguarding checks including DBS and personal references
• agree to Been There’s confidentiality and privacy policy guidelines
• be able to commit to a minimum of six months volunteering with Been There
• have access to a quiet and private environment to complete your online training and deliver one-to-one mentoring sessions (for 1-3 hours per week).
• have a secure internet/data connection in order to access the Been There app

At Bradford Samaritans Hub, we provide vital emotional support to those going through difficult times. Our non-judgmental and confidential service is available 24/7, allowing individuals to talk openly about their feelings, thoughts, and concerns. We are a social enterprise dedicated to enhancing mental wellbeing. Our flagship service is The Teashop, which brings small groups of community members together to foster their mental wellbeing through an enjoyable activity with known mental health benefits, over a cup of tea.

Job Description: 
As a Volunteer Events Assistant, you will have the opportunity to contribute to our mission by supporting in-person Teashop sessions. Each session brings together groups of up to 15 adults experiencing mild-to-moderate mental health symptoms, providing them with an enjoyable activity and an opportunity for connection in a supportive environment. We’ve offered dog therapy, art-making, yoga, and wellness discussions in the past. 

Responsibilities: 
- Create Eventbrite/Facebook/Instagram ads to draw new participants to future sessions. 
- Assist with the setup and logistics of sessions for The Teashop service 
- Travel to and support Teashop sessions by helping with materials, taking photos, and managing sign-in procedures, typically two sessions per month during weekends. 
- Create engaging social media content to promote The Teashop sessions and build community awareness. 
- If required, provide mental health first aid support by signposting and offering assistance to attendees in need. 
- Collect feedback at the end of each session and input it into Excel spreadsheets.

Essential Criteria: 
- 18+ years old
- Completed A-levels or equivalent
- Must possess a valid DBS check or be willing to have it done
- Excellent organisational skills and ability to manage time effectively during sessions
- Strong interpersonal skills and a passion for engaging with diverse communities
- Availability to volunteer two weekend days per month for in-person sessions
- Ability to travel to session locations within the designated area
- Proficiency in basic computer skills for data entry and social media management.
 
Desirable criteria:  
- An undergraduate degree (BSc/BA)
- A valid driver's license and licensed vehicle to help transport materials
- Experience in customer service/administrative role
- Experience with working with people with mental health conditions
- Experience in social media and/or graphic design skills
