Suicide Prevention Champion
Job description
Be a Voice for Suicide Prevention – Become an Allkind Champion!
Do you want to make a positive difference in your community? Join us in raising awareness of suicide prevention and mental health, challenging stigma, and encouraging open, supportive conversations that could help save lives. We welcome volunteers from: Croydon, Kingston, Merton, Richmond, Sutton and Wandsworth. You’ll work alongside and receive support from Allkind’s Suicide Prevention team, helping to build more aware, compassionate and supportive communities.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Help people recognise warning signs, understand suicide prevention and know how to respond and where to find support.
- Encourage safer conversations about suicide and self-harm, challenge misconceptions and help reduce stigma.
- Contribute to awareness events, campaigns, community conversations and safe spaces, including sharing relevant experiences where appropriate.
- Promote mental health and wellbeing initiatives within the organisation or local area.
- Work with other Champions, share learning and build links with communities and organisations.
- Help ensure the experiences of people affected by suicide, self-harm and mental health challenges are heard and inform local activity.
Working safely within the role
- This is an awareness and community engagement role, not a counselling, clinical or crisis intervention role.
- You will work alongside or under the direction of the Suicide Prevention team, and will not take sole responsibility for supporting someone at risk.
- You will follow safeguarding procedures, escalate any safety concerns promptly and maintain appropriate confidentiality and personal boundaries.
- You will be supported to share lived experience safely and recognise when to step back or seek guidance.
What we’re looking for
- A genuine interest in mental health, wellbeing and suicide prevention.
- Empathy, openness and the ability to communicate with people from different backgrounds.
- A willingness to listen, challenge stigma and, where appropriate, share experiences sensitively.
- An understanding of the importance of safeguarding, boundaries and working as part of a team.
