Campaigning Volunteer Roles

Across the UK, our 270 local groups play a vital part in supporting people affected by MS. They provide sense of belonging, unity and friendship. And they deliver services and support for their local MS community.

We are looking to recruit an Activities Volunteer for the Chorley and District Group. As our local group Activities Volunteer you’ll help us to set up activities in the area. Whether you’re serving refreshments, talking to people, registering attendees or collecting payments, you’ll be making sure everyone feel welcome.

In this role you’ll be able to develop your organisation, communication and team working skills. Most importantly you’ll be supporting your local group to run activities that bring friendship and fun to your local MS Community.

About you

You’ll have an interest in the MS Society and the work that we do, as well as the enthusiasm to represent both us and our values locally. You will understand the needs of people affected by MS in your area and be sympathetic to the needs and motivations of volunteers. You’ll be able to apply disability, equality and inclusion practices and understand and apply our risk management system. Ideally you’ll understand the local area and organisations that provide local services.

You will be reliable and easy to contact and you need to live in or near the area the group to carry out this role.

Time Commitment

We estimate this role will need up to two hours a week. Our roles are flexible and aim to fit around you. Time commitments for this role may vary depending on your activities. This is an ongoing role.

Community engagement takes place across all areas of Solihull borough (support with travel arrangements and out of pocket costs will be provided) and will involve working as part of a small team. Work will be carried out at different venues and locations including:

• Service user support groups, steering groups, meetings etc. accessed via our Third Sector partner organisations.

• Events: freshers fairs, open days etc.

• Public Venues: Hospitals, GP surgeries, Libraries, Community Centres etc

Tasks include:
• Collecting people’s experiences of health and social care services, at focus group meetings and events.
• Helping to ensure those who are at risk of health inequalities are listened to, involved, and empowered to help influence better services
• Supporting investigations guided by our research team.
• Promoting Healthwatch Solihull within the community and raising awareness of our services.

Role description

Africa Health Organisation (AHO) is setting up a pharmaceutical company to carry out research and produce drugs/medicines and vaccines for patients in Africa. Patients and healthcare providers are all dependent on pharmaceutical companies for the treatment of diseases. Over 80% of drugs/medicines and over 90% of vaccines used in Africa come from outside the continent. AHO is working hard to end this by setting up a new pharmaceutical company to produce drugs/medicines and vaccines in the continent. The purpose of the company is to study diseases, research, and invent new drugs/medicines and vaccines for the diseases. The companies require medical data and reports of patients for researching and discovering new drugs. This is made easier after medical records have gone electronic and are being stored after encryption through blockchain-based applications.

AHO is looking for Specialists in pharmaceutical science to help with setting up the company, registration, governance, board of directors, licensing, production, compliance, regulatory, finance, laboratory, human resources, and marketing.

Roles and responsibilities

• Start-up, registration, governance, licensing, financial, capital, business planning, and lobbying in the UK, US, EU, Asia and Africa.

Qualifications and Experience

Qualifications

Essential

• Degree in pharmaceutical sciences, chemistry, pharmacy, biology, chemistry, medicine, engineering, epidemiology, or similar scientific subject if combined with further education and training such as the MSc Scientist Training Programme (STP) in Clinical Pharmaceutical Sciences, Business Studies such as MBA and Marketing.
• Registered General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) Member or/& HCPC/ RPS or willing to register.

Desirable

• Technical qualification such as Pharmacy, Pharmaceutical Technology, Quality Control, Engineering, Manufacturing.
• Post graduate certificate or diploma in a relevant pharmaceutical field.

Knowledge

Essential

• Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practice and the regulations surrounding Pharmaceutical Manufacture.
• Knowledge of clean room design and functioning.
• Highly developed Professional knowledge, underpinned by theory and experience.

Desirable

• Specialist knowledge of Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Processes including equipment and facility design, construction, validation and testing.
• Knowledge of:- o Aseptic preparation of medicines o Terminal Sterilisation processes o QA/QC services

Do you want to help stop needless deaths from sepsis and help improve recovery of those affected by Sepsis. UKST are looking to recruit additional Trustees to its established Board

Sepsis is a life-threatening condition that affects 245,000 people in the UK every year. At least 48,000 of those people lose their lives to the condition. We believe that earlier diagnosis and treatment across the UK would save thousands more lives a year.

The UK Sepsis Trust (UKST) was founded in 2012. Founder and Executive Director, Dr Ron Daniels BEM, is an NHS Consultant in Intensive Care:

“We seek to save lives from sepsis, and improve outcomes for survivors, by educating healthcare professionals, raising public awareness, providing support for those affected by this devastating condition and political lobbying. We will protect people by enabling the prevention of severe infection and the treatment of sepsis, whist helping to ensure antibiotics are used responsibly.”

The UK Sepsis Trust has ambitious plans to increase awareness, educate wider networks beyond direct care health professionals and provide support to an ever-increasing population of survivors and bereaved. We are seeking to diversify the existing Trustee Board by gaining access to broader and deeper skills, backgrounds, and experiences. Our Trustees work in partnership with our Chairman and Chief Executives to ensure our resources are applied to maximum effect to achieve our purpose – through a clear vision and strategy, whilst exercising stewardship to operate an appropriate framework of governance.

We are particularly interested in candidates from various backgrounds including:

• Clinical/Sepsis
• Finance & Charity governance
• Corporate Fundraising engagement
• Digital, web and apps

Key Tasks and Responsibilities will include:

• Working with the Chairman, fellow Trustees and Management Team to ensure UKST’s cultural values and ethos are fully understood and adhered to throughout the organisation
• Encouraging team-working and collaboration across the charity’s activities including supporters and volunteers
• Along with fellow Trustees, making decisions that will best enable the charity to carry out its purposes. Contributing to balanced and informed decisions about the long term as well as the short-term requirements for UKST
• Ensuring the Charity’s assets and resources are only used to support it carrying out its purpose
• Providing ad hoc advice to the Management Team on specific topics relevant to their skills and knowledge
• Keeping up to date with Charity Commission legislation changes
• Continually monitoring the Trust’s progress to determine if strategic priorities need to be adjusted

Time Commitment

The time commitment of the Trustees is variable but as a minimum they are required to attend the following:

• The Trustees have four formal meetings each year with the management team (2 of which are in person in either Birmingham/London).
• In addition there are four informal meetings with the management team along with regular Trustee only meetings which are all held virtually
• The Finance and Governance Trustee would also be required to attend four finance and audit committee meetings per year.

Volunteer Supporter Care Admin Assistants are required to help with telephone calls to say thank you to donators, sending letters, scanning and uploading files so knowledge of IT would be helpful.

Our Community Engagement Volunteers are an extension of our Fundraising team and act as champions for Tŷ Hafan within their local community.

They are passionate about their cause and eager to share their knowledge and enthusiasm with others.

Supported by your local Regional Fundraiser, you will help us with various fundraising activities depending on your skills and confidence.

You will receive a full induction and ongoing training, as well as opportunities to meet other volunteers and have fun throughout the year.

• Spreading the word about Tŷ Hafan's campaigns and events to your friends, family and contacts 

• Sharing your passion for what we do with your community

To be a Community Fundraising Volunteer, you need to have a good knowledge of your local area and potential supporters, and a genuine enthusiasm for our cause. It would also be helpful if you are:

• Able to speak Welsh (not essential for all volunteers, but we welcome Welsh speakers)

• Confident and comfortable speaking in public about what we do

• Familiar with using social media
