At BIAS, we’re looking for personable and kind individuals to join our Be-A-Friend scheme and help reduce social isolation amongst older members of the Irish community in Brent.

Our Be-A-Friend scheme connects volunteers with older people who may be living on their own. Whether through a friendly visit or a chat on the phone, your time will bring companionship and joy to someone, making a real difference in their life.

The role is flexible, allowing you to volunteer at times that suit your schedule. While we encourage a regular commitment (such as once a week) to build meaningful connections, we’re happy to work with you to find a routine that suits best! Our coordinator will also be available to support you throughout your volunteering experience.

Octavia works with people affected by unemployment, ill health, social isolation or low income to connect them with opportunities for positive personal change. Our vision is to build stronger, happier and healthier communities in central and west London to help create an enriched life where we live. Please help us to do this by volunteering to befriend a member of the local community, who is isolated and vulnerable, in Westminster or Kensington and Chelsea.

What would I be doing?

 Meeting once a week with the person you have been matched with, in their own home or an agreed public place, at a mutually agreed time

 On occasion you may be asked by your befriendee to accompany/escort them outside on a one to one basis or do some shopping in circumstances where they are unable to

What skills are we looking for?

 Good communication skills
 Understanding of empathy and the needs of people with isolation issues
 Understanding of confidentiality
 Able to use own initiative and work unsupervised, reliable and trustworthy
 We ask that you volunteer for 1 hour per week, for a minimum of 6 months

When you aplply, we ask for 2 references but these do not need to be from employers. For instance, they can be character references from college tutors or support workers who know you well. We also carry out Enhanced Disclosure checks on all volunteers, but this would only happen if we both agree that Befriending is the right fit for you.

We are looking for an additional volunteer to join the friendly team at our refugee and asylum seeker support charity,  to assist with casework.  Clients come to us with queries on a wide range of issues, for example around asylum support, poverty,  bank accounts, eVisas, housing,  benefits, English classes etc.   We need someone with good general knowledge of how to work with UK systems,  who enjoys supporting people and is able to hit the ground running and work with minimal supervision. 

Role outline 

The casework volunteer will be asked to see individual clients who come to our weekly drop-in session with queries or requests for support,  to offer what help they can with the query in the time available,  to agree any follow-up needed, and to keep a very brief record of the problem and action taken.  The volunteer will have access to our casework information resource, and many queries can also be responded to using the information sheets for clients available on our website.  There will always be at least one other person to turn to with any queries, either our service delivery lead or other experienced casework volunteers.  All volunteers are expected to follow RRSG policies and procedures eg. around safeguarding and data protection

Person specification 

Essential 

• Fluent in English
• Familiar with dealing with UK systems eg. health services, banks, etc.
• Confident in dealing with other agencies on the phone and in writing
• Experience in supporting others to solve practical problems
• Able and willing to use own laptop for the work
• Able to use RRSG IT systems
• Reliable, trustworthy, strong interpersonal skills, and committed to assisting the client group
• Able to commit to attending sessions in Haslingden, Rossendale on Wednesday mornings 10.30-12.30, at least twice monthly on average.

Desirable

• Fluent in Tigrinya, Kurdish, Farsi, Arabic or other relevant languages

As the welcoming face of the food bank you’ll be sociable, enjoy meeting people and able to offer friendly and caring support to those in crisis. You’ll receive and check food vouchers, prepare food parcels and make refreshments for the people who visit the food bank. You’ll provide a listening ear and support people in accessing other services with compassion and dignity.

Why we want you

We are committed to ensuring anybody visiting a food bank is welcomed, valued and treated with dignity.  Volunteers take time to share a warm drink, discuss food requirements, offer a listening ear and, when appropriate, signpost people for further support and help.  

As a Food bank centre helper you will play a vital role giving direct support to people who use food banks, meeting and greeting people coming into the food bank, packing their food parcels, making them feel comfortable and providing further signposting support where appropriate.

In this role you can make a real difference to people’s lives providing vital help and support to those in crisis in your local community.

• Receive vouchers, check validity, and prepare food parcels according to the standard packing lists

Acting as the link between food donations coming in and reaching those in crisis, you’ll support the smooth running of your local food bank. You’ll be part of a team overseeing and running the replenishment order, with large volumes of stock moving from the warehouse to the Foodbank distribution centre. This is a physical role as you’ll be on your feet a lot and you must be comfortable with some heavy lifting and maintaining a clean and safe warehouse.

Why we want you

Food banks provide essential community services to people in crisis. By volunteering as a warehouse assistant, you can make a real difference to people’s lives providing vital help and support locally. This role is an essential part of how Brent foodbank operates and without it we would not be able to run all of our weekly sessions.

What you will be doing

• Fulfilling the replenishment requests from our Foodbank shop
• Lifting cardboard and plastic crates in and out of the van in line with current manual handling guidelines
• Keeping warehouse area clean and tidy at all times, ensuring relevant materials are recycled
• Following Health and Safety guidance, manual handling training and the other policies and procedures related to the running of the warehouse
• Undertaking any other duties that may be reasonably expected to fulfil the role
• If applicable, and interested, becoming one of our van drivers (optional)

Ready to make a difference to a young person's life? Team Up is seeking dynamic volunteers to help transform the lives of disadvantaged pupils by building confidence, resilience and doubling their expected progress in English or maths.

We are looking for inspirational role models who will tutor Maths or English on one of our school programmes across London. You will be matched with a small number of pupils and provide them with the academic support, encouragement and inspiration they need to get back on track. All our volunteer tutors receive full training, lesson resources and support from a qualified teacher/facilitator throughout their placement.

Practical Considerations:

• You can choose a programme that suits your timetable and location.
• Sessions are between 60-90 minutes and will take place on a fixed day of the week, normally at the end of the school day (between 3-5pm).
• Each programme runs across a 12 week period, usually during term time. You will be expected to volunteer for at least one programme (10-12 weeks). 
• Team Up provides full lesson plans and teaching resources.
• This role requires you to undergo a free of charge DBS check, which will be arranged by Team Up.
• Travel expenses up to £15 per session are covered.

At St John Ambulance, we are looking to develop our volunteering offer and become an even more integral part of our communities through delivering community first aid and education. 

We need people who have a passion for helping others, care about their communities and want to make a difference, supporting them to become safe and more resilient by sharing your first aid skills and knowledge. As a Community First Aider, you’ll deliver first aid to those in need through local events, as well as provide education to the public so that the ripple effect of First Aid grows.

Through supporting the growth of community partnerships, you will bring people along to our cause, growing our membership and fundraising base and spreading the message that First Aid Saves Lives. 

Through volunteering as a Community First Aider, you’ll get a huge sense of satisfaction and pride delivering an essential service. It’s great for you, great for your community and great for our nation, and it requires only a small commitment of your time. 

We will make sure you will have access to a proper induction to volunteering with SJA and the training you need for the role you take on. We are looking for new members to join our clinical team in Derbyshire South to support at local community events.

Volunteers will be required to undertake 2 days of face-to-face training for their role in addition to online learning modules. Meetings with the Network team take place on Monday and Thursday evenings, some available online.

We are looking to run a volunteering selection session on: Sunday 9th or Sunday 23rd November, Inductions will take place after the interviews. 

Face-to-face training for role will take place in Derby on 17th & 18th January 2026. You must be able to attend both days. Online learning can be done in your own time prior to the course.

Our charity provides a wide range of vital resources, services, parent/carer amenities, and accommodation. We also fund medical equipment, facilities improvements and projects outside of the NHS remit. We are currently looking for a Fundraising and Events Volunteer to help our organisation . 

We would like the volunteer to help with:

• Stewardship at events to help families and guests.

• Supporting staff with admin at these events so that processes run smoothly.

• Communicating with families and guests who may share personal stories related to the charity. Feeling comfortable and confident to speak to people about our charity and what we do.

Location

Whilst we are based at Royal Brompton Hospital, Sydney St, London SW3 6NP, your role will mainly be off site at different locations around London and the South-East to help at fundraising and community events.

Time

Due to our mission, we would greatly appreciate at least 6 weeks of your time, preferably more. This role would not be a set day a week, but rather be for fundraising and event days. These days would normally be Saturdays and Sundays, averaging once a month. We are an understanding and flexible organisation, and would be happy to discuss options with you. 

The Brompton Fountain is a children's charity working with those impacted by heart and lung conditions in Royal Brompton and Harefield hospital. Our charity provides a wide range of vital resources, services, parent/carer amenities, and accommodation. We also fund medical equipment, facilities improvements and projects outside of the NHS remit. We are currently looking for a voluntary In-Patient Services Officer to help our organisation support the children and their families on the wards of our hospitals by distributing/providing resources/services to improve the quality of their stay in our hospitals.

Of Note: This role entails interacting and seeing children who can be very sick. This is understandably very sad and can be distressing to witness. Please make sure you are able to cope with this before applying.

We would like the volunteer to help with:

• Distribution of resources to patients and families on the ward e.g care packages and food vouchers.

• Being a point of contact for families in hospital to talk to.

• Supporting in-hospital socials.

• The tea and coffee service we deliver on the wards.

• Communicating with families who may share personal stories related to the charity. Feeling comfortable and confident to speak to people about our charity and what we do.

• Taking inventory of our current stock that is being used for both in-patients and out patients. 

• Organising stock and adding to a system that makes it accessible.

• Creating and packing resources for different services we provide in hospital.

• Packing orders from our online charity shop to send out to customers.

• Tracking resources we need on the wards and accommodation units.

• Processing deliveries e.g unboxing and sorting.

• Ad-hoc requests that may arise in the office.

You will be supporting our Community Engagement Lead and our Children and Families Service Lead who will provide an overview of our existing processes and be there to help you every step of the way. The Brompton Fountain has a strong team of staff and volunteers who you will be working collaboratively with as a team to support the families we are in contact with.

Your input will greatly affect how smoothly our operations run, and how we are able to interact and support our service users. With your help we will be able to have a more organised process in allocating our resources, be able to support the children and their families in the ward, and have a clearer set of operations with distribution off-site.
