About Merton Connected
Merton Connected seeks a committed, experienced individual to join our Board as Chair. We are an independent charity operating within the Borough of Merton, providing finance and services to local voluntary sector organisations. We work closely with Merton Council, South West London NHS, and major independent trusts that provide our funding.
For over 35 years, the organisation has provided a wide range of support to organisations to help them establish, develop and become sustainable. It encourages, supports and develops volunteering and works with organisations in the public, private, voluntary and community sectors to develop partnership activities to benefit the community
As Chair, you will provide leadership to the Board and ensure it has agreed priorities, appropriate structures, processes, and a productive culture. Merton Connected prides itself on having diverse and talented Trustees, and as chair, you will lead the trustees in playing a full role in developing and determining Merton Connected's strategy.
About the Role
Key responsibilities of the role include instigating and facilitating discussions on the strategic development of the Charity, ensuring that the Board has agreed on strategic priorities, and line managing the Chief Executive to ensure effective management and delivery of the organisation's strategic aims and objectives.
The successful candidate will have a high level of understanding and interest in the issues Merton Connected seeks to address, a commitment to the values and principles of Merton Connected, strong business and financial acumen, and experience in committee work.
About You
You will also possess highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, proven leadership skills, and sound, independent judgment. In addition, you will be able to understand complex strategic issues, analyse and resolve difficult problems, and demonstrate high standards of personal integrity and probity. Politically astute, you will be able to grasp relevant issues and understand relationships between interested parties.
Time Commitment
Board Meetings: Five Board meetings per year
Sub-committee Meetings: Four meetings of the Finance and General Purposes Committees per year
