Volunteer School Governor – Finance & Risk Specialism
Organisation: Charlton Kings Junior School, Single Academy Trust
Location: Cheltenham, Gloucestershire
Commitment: Approx. 1-3 hours per month (usually evenings)
Remuneration: Voluntary (unpaid)
About Us
We are a thriving junior school and single academy trust, committed to providing an outstanding education for our pupils. Our Board of Governors plays a vital role in setting the school's strategic direction, holding leadership to account, and ensuring the long-term sustainability of the trust.
The Opportunity
We are seeking enthusiastic and dedicated volunteers to join our Board of Governors. We welcome applications from all members of the community- you do not need to be a parent of the school or have a background in education. Skills and experience from the professional world are highly valued.
We have a particular need for candidates with expertise in one or more of the following areas:
- Accounting and Financial Management
- Risk Management and Internal Controls
- Audit or Compliance
What's Involved
- Attending full Board meetings (typically termly) and committee meetings
- Reviewing financial reports, budgets, and risk registers
- Supporting the school's leadership team through strategic challenge and advice
- Upholding the values and ethos of the school
What We're Looking For
- Professional experience in finance, accounting, or risk
- Sound judgement and the ability to analyse information objectively
- A commitment to improving outcomes for children
- Good communication and teamworking skills
School governors are subject to an enhanced DBS check.
