These Sessions (Holiday and Food - HAF) enable disabled children to access fun, inspirational and challenging leisure activities that build life skills and promote independence whilst providing carers with vital short break respite.

Volunteer Responsibilities include:

• Assist Caudwell Children staff member(s) in running the short break activity sessions
• Help to ensure all children are safe during the activity sessions
• Support staff members with planned activities
• Participate in setting up an activity and helping with the set down
• Communicate and work with the children to ensure they have fun

This role takes place during August 2024. We are looking for volunteers that can commit to 8 days for this role (2 days per week ideally) – full training and support will be provided.

Are you a creative, friendly, open-minded person who wants to gain experience working with Children? Caudwell Children are looking for volunteers to help with our Short Break Activity Sessions!

Our Short Break Activity Sessions enable disabled children to access fun, inspirational and challenging leisure activities that build life skills and promote independence whilst providing carers with vital short break respite.

With our support, disabled children and young people get to explore their interests, talents and develop vital life skills. Activities can lead to ASDAN accreditation. Short break activities build future hopes and aspirations and provide children with the confidence to achieve their full potential.

Roles and Responsibilities:

- Assist Caudwell Children staff member(s) in running the short break activity sessions

- Help to ensure all children are safe during the activity sessions

- Support staff members with planned activities

- Participate in setting up an activity and helping with the set down

Are you a reliable, empathetic, tech-savvy individual with an eye for detail? Caudwell Children are looking for friendly and professional volunteers to help with our Service Delivery Department.
The Service Delivery Department is responsible for ensuring the beneficiaries of the charity receive high quality services. We offer services to children and support to families, including:

- Advice and signposting to local services (available to individuals anywhere in the UK),

- We accept applications for and (subject to a set of financial criteria) will contribute funding towards some specific therapies, provision of resources such as specialist wheelchairs, car seats, tricycles, sensory stimulating equipment and sports equipment

- We have specialist autism services and accept referrals to assess and diagnose autism in 4 to 11 year olds and provide information, workshops and advice to families with a child with autism

- We have an employment service for autistic young people up to age 25 years to support the transition into the digital skills workforce.

As a volunteer in our Service Delivery department, roles and responsibilities may include:

- Providing practical and emotional support to children and their families across the country

- Processing and completing applications for specialist equipment, therapies and treatment

- Data inputting onto our metro system

- Providing an information and signposting service

- Communication with other organisations via telephone and email

- Meeting and greeting visitors (including visitor sign in)

- Answering telephone/ email enquiries

- Monitoring our online chat service ensuring families receive the support that they need

We’re looking for somebody approachable, dedicated and responsible, with a good level of written and verbal communication, and telephone and computer literacy.

ECL exists to enhance the lives of people with learning disabilities or autism. Through our
activities at local community centres, we help our members have fun, make friends, learn
new skills and be themselves. We are currently looking for Trustees to sit on the Charity’s
Board.

Trustees meet quarterly to discuss how the Charity is doing, upcoming opportunities and
plans, etc. We are a small, friendly group who all have an interest in helping people.
Knowledge of the local area and an understanding of learning disabilities would be an
advantage, but not a necessity.

ECL exists to enhance the lives of people with learning disabilities or autism. Through our
activities at local community centres, we help our members have fun, make friends, learn
new skills and be themselves. We are currently looking for a Company Secretary to sit on
the Charity’s Board.

Main duties and responsibilities

 Overseeing the administration of the Charity, eg, maintaining statutory records,
organising Board meetings and AGMs, preparing agendas and taking minutes
 Guiding and advising the Chair and the Board on their responsibilities under the rules
and regulations of the UK Charity Commission
 Developing and overseeing the systems that ensure that the Charity complies with all
applicable codes, in addition to its legal and statutory requirements

governance, who takes an interest in the local community and would like to help support the
Charity in its goal of enriching the lives of those with learning disabilities or autism.

As a shop volunteer, you’ll help raise vital funds for our work towards everyday equality for disabled people. You will make a real difference to the lives of disabled people and their families. 

Every 6 minutes someone learns that they are losing their sight. Every five hours, a baby is born with sight problems. In these moments, two profound questions emerge:

• Can this be stopped?

• How do I (or my child) live this life?

The merger of Fight for Sight and Vision Foundation, which took place on 1st April 2023, will enable us to address both questions. By combining our strengths and expertise we are now the only significant national funder with the efficiency,

capability, and capacity to increase investment in medical research and social improvement. Together we can mitigate both the prevalence and impact of sight loss. We have a clear ambition – to save sight and to change lives.

We are now seeking up to four new trustees as we establish ourselves in our new form and under our new name (soon to be announced). This is an exciting inflection point for us, and our new trustees will be central in enabling us to achieve our ambition.

We have worked through our merger and have a clear focus and vision, as well as a strong Board and senior leadership team, all of whom are ambitious for the potential impact we can make. Our re-brand will also enable us to amplify our position as a leader within the sight loss sector. Our merger was a critical step in accelerating research which will create a positive impact on the lives of millions of people. We are a new organisation forged from two ambitious charities: Fight for Sight and Vision Foundation. Our single, unifying mission is to save sight and change lives.

It is a mission that reflects two urgent questions everyone faces when they receive a diagnosis of sight loss: ‘How do I stop this?’ and ‘How do I live my life?’

THE MERGER

Fight for Sight funds breakthrough research and life-changing services to build a more equitable future for blind and partially sighted people by accelerating breakthroughs in multiple sight loss conditions.

Vision Foundation works to inform, include and empower the visually impaired community. Empowerment is at the heart of what we do; our work focuses on what people can do, rather than what they can’t.

The merger will help us to realise a joint ambition to tackle sight loss from both a clinical and social perspective. Our combined organisation is now grounded in data and insight into the science, as well as the lived experience of, sight loss. With this wealth of evidence we’re determined to:

OUR FUTURE

Our principal role is as a grant-maker. We award grants to the scientific community that could lead to scientific breakthroughs and treatments to stop eye diseases from progressing. In the future, we believe research can prevent people from losing sight and reverse sight loss. We invest to advance treatments that will cure eye disease and protect and grow the community of world-class scientists, technologists, and data scientists who can deliver tomorrow’s breakthroughs. Historically, Vision Foundation has funded innovations that directly impact people who are blind or partially sighted, from music classes for children to projects that take eye tests into at-risk communities. We invest in programmes, organisations and activities that deliver equity for and with blind and visually impaired people.

As a grant-maker, we are change-makers, accelerators and drivers of impact. We are bold, energetic, challenging, disruptive, tenacious, and determined.

We aren’t afraid to tackle the challenges facing the sight loss community, either. Recent campaigns include The Unseen, which unearthed the shocking scale and nature of domestic abuse among blind and partially sighted people, and See My Skills, which addressed high unemployment rates. The charity excels at working in partnership with others towards creating a more equitable society for the sight loss community.

As we progress, we’ll scale the impact of projects like these, look beyond the nation’s capital, and drive systemic change. We’ll need to secure the funds to invest in our trusted partners to achieve our ambitions. We’ll continue to fundraise by engaging with supporters and companies through legacies, events such as the London Marathon, and our network of charity shops.

The evidence we commission influences policy and decision-making to demand equality for all.

We’ll shortly have a new name that reflects our united ambitions, so it’s an exciting time for us and the people we serve.

 

OUR FINANCES

The charity is in a strong position financially, with a high level of reserves that we intend to draw down over the coming years as we focus on investing in sustainable growth and increasing our impact. Compared to many charities, we

have well diversified income streams, predictable costs, and are in the fortunate position to hold a sizable portfolio of investments. Our plans for the short and medium term are to invest in our income generation infrastructure, and to significantly increase the amounts of funding we can put to our charitable purpose.

Fight for Sight / Vision Foundation is the only organisation in the sight loss sector with an Executive Leadership Team that has over half of its members with lived experience of sight loss.

The Board currently numbers ten trustees, including our newly appointed Chair.

As the most senior leaders in our charity, trustees play a pivotal role in guiding our strategic direction, amplifying our impact, and ensuring the fulfilment of our mission to save sight and change lives. You will serve on the main board and will be invited also to get involved in one of our sub-committees. These are currently:

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic Leadership & Planning

- Provide leadership and strategic guidance to the charity, aligning efforts with the mission and values of the organisation.

- Collaborate with the board, executive team, and stakeholders to develop and implement long-term strategies that advance the charity’s impact and sustainability.

Governance

- Ensure effective governance, decision-making, and compliance with legal and ethical standards.

- Work closely with board members, fostering a culture of transparency, accountability, collaboration and open communication, harnessing different views and opinions.

Engagement

- Represent the charity at public events and networking opportunities to promote our mission and raise awareness about our cause.

- Develop and nurture relationships with key stakeholders, including donors, partners, corporations, government agencies, and the visually impaired community.

Evaluation and Accountability

- Collaborate with the board to evaluate performance, ensuring alignment with the charity’s goals and objectives.

- Ensure the charity is accountable to donors and beneficiaries, that is financially robust and sustainable, and that is effective risk management in place.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

We are seeking dynamic and dedicated individuals to serve as trustees of our ambitious merged organisation. The ideal candidates will have a strong commitment to our cause, along with the following:

Specialist experience

At this time, we are particularly interested in candidates who have leadership experience in:

- Scientific and/or medical research

- Ophthalmic research and/or clinical practice

- Strategic oversight of substantial fundraising and/or retail operations

TERMS OF APPOINTMENT

Remuneration

This role is not accompanied by any financial remuneration, although reasonable expenses may be claimed.

Time commitment

While the exact time commitment may vary based on the charity’s needs and priorities, we anticipate the following general expectations:

- A minimum of four Board meetings per year

- Up to four subcommittee meetings per year (the specific committee depending on skills and experience)

- Preparation for meetings, review of materials, and other trustee engagement as appropriate.

- Annual Strategy Day with full Board and executive team.

- Meetings with members of the executive leadership team as appropriate.

- Representing the charity at high profile events, functions and public engagements to enhance its reputation and partnerships.

Location

At present Board meetings are held in central London. Subcommittee meetings are held remotely.

Our Volunteer Gardener Role requires you to visit the gardens of disabled people and perform basic gardening tasks e.g mowing a lawn, weeding, pruning, bagging up garden waste, and tidying up the garden to improve accessibility.

Midland Mencap seeks a passionate volunteer with good digital and IT skills to help our citizens and family carers access information and connect with their local communities by helping them understand the basics of social and digital platforms and applications.

If you are wizz on social media, a genius with Microsoft office and have a great understanding of digital platforms, you could help to make the world a bit easier to navigate.

Help us showcase the positive impact of the digital world to people who may not currently be accessing it and expand their horizons. Provide tips on safe and secure access so that everyone feels confident to use the internet.

What would I be doing?

Provide a “drop in” opportunity at our busy community hub in Weoley Castle.       Meet and help citizens and their carers to understand and access the digital world via a laptop, smartphone, or MAC book. This will include helping people get online safely, send emails, and use Microsoft applications such as Word and PowerPoint

Support our weekly Digital Creative Workshop. Join in with our staff team as we support citizens to unleash creative talents and learn how to make amazing online content for the digital world.

Collaborate with the marketing team: Share content for use in promotional materials, social media, and the website.

For this volunteer role you need:

· A good understanding of digital platforms, internet use and Microsoft applications

· A friendly, calm, and patient attitude

· Be accepting of people who may be different to you

Across the UK, our 270 local groups play a vital part in supporting people affected by MS. They provide sense of belonging, unity and friendship. And they deliver services and support for their local MS community.

We are looking to recruit an Activities Volunteer for the Bristol and South West Gloucestershire Group. As our local group Activities Volunteer you’ll help us to set up activities in the area. Whether you’re serving refreshments, talking to people, registering attendees or collecting payments, you’ll be making sure everyone feel welcome.

In this role you’ll be able to develop your organisation, communication and team working skills. Most importantly you’ll be supporting your local group to run activities that bring friendship and fun to your local MS Community.

About you

You’ll have an interest in the MS Society and the work that we do, as well as the enthusiasm to represent both us and our values locally. You will understand the needs of people affected by MS in your area and be sympathetic to the needs and motivations of volunteers.
