The Role: Secretary Trustee
We are seeking a new trustee to join our board who can take on the responsibilities of Secretary to the Board. This role is key in ensuring our board functions effectively and meets its legal obligations. The ideal candidate will have some experience or understanding of Human Resources (HR), as we value thoughtful, fair and informed support in matters relating to staff and volunteer welfare.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure accurate and timely documentation of board meetings (e.g. minutes, agendas).
- Support the Chair in preparing and circulating meeting papers.
- Maintain records in line with charity governance requirements.
- Help to ensure compliance with statutory duties (e.g. Companies House, Charity Commission filings).
- Provide oversight and support on HR matters, including policy reviews and recruitment processes, where relevant.
- Contribute actively to board discussions and strategic direction.
- Act as an ambassador for DOCA and support its mission and values.
Person Specification
Essential:
- Organised, reliable and able to manage documentation and communications efficiently.
- Understanding of charity governance or willingness to learn.
- A collaborative approach and commitment to inclusive practice.
- Strong communication skills and discretion.
Desirable:
- Experience in HR or related fields (e.g. people management, policy development, staff wellbeing).
- Previous board or committee experience (not essential).
- Knowledge of or enthusiasm for the arts and cultural sector.
