Our advice line is a vital service to people experiencing domestic abuse and is available 24 hours. To help us provide the best possible service, we are looking for volunteers to help support this coverage.
Working closely with our trained team of experts, advice line volunteers will offer callers reliable information, friendly support, and useful signposting. Volunteers would need to be available for approximately 2 hours on a regular basis each week, during either our daytime (9am to 4pm) sessions or evening (4pm – 10pm) sessions. After a period of training, this role can be carried out from home or from our Northampton refuge.
Please note that this is a new voluntary role within NDAS and as such it will change and evolve whilst it is being developed and put into practice.
NDAS envisages the following as a guide.
You will be:
- Committed to supporting callers facing domestic abuse situations.
- Responsive and sensitive to the disclosure of domestic abuse and mindful of issues relating to risk, confidentiality, and information sharing.
- Mindful of boundaries after disclosure; working with systems and processes internally and externally whilst understanding the limitations of the role.
- Able to sensitively gain information from callers and be able to follow the provided procedures for handling calls.
- Able to relay information clearly and concisely whilst using our case management software.
You will NOT:
- Be responsible for DA cases or concerns.
- Be expected to be a ‘specialist’ in this field. Instead, you will be supporting the existing team and taking details from callers for our specialists to then contact.
- Be left without support – trained members of staff are on hand to always offer advice and support.
What we’re looking for:
- An excellent telephone manner is essential as is high level of computer literacy.
- You must have a genuine desire to help people.
- The ability to work calmly in a pressured situation.
- You will need to be patient, empathetic and non-judgemental.
- You will be discreet with the information that’s shared with you.
- You will be accepting and won’t discriminate against anyone, for any reason.
At NDAS we welcome applications from a wide range of applicants.
There are no pre-requisites for this role and we don’t expect you to be an expert in domestic abuse to volunteer with us. Extensive training will be provided before you begin your volunteer role, along with ongoing, regular support. However, knowledge, understanding or experience that complements the role is always beneficial – be sure to include this in your application, as there is often strong competition for our roles.
We would appreciate any time you are able to offer. If you can commit to regular hours (such as 2-3 hours per week) we would be delighted to discuss ongoing projects that might interest you. As it takes an amount of time and resource to welcome new volunteers on board, we would appreciate it if you pledged to support us initially for a minimum of 6 months.
What we offer:
- You will be given an induction and any necessary training for this role.
- Targeted support workers will help and support you when volunteering.
- You will be able to develop new and existing skills in areas such supporting clients fleeing domestic abuse.
- Fundraising is fun and rewarding and a great way of meeting new people.
- You will be working as part of a dedicated and motivated team of volunteers.
- You will have the opportunity to make a real difference to the lives of those we support.
- Volunteers can claim all reasonable and previously agreed expenses (such as for travel or reimbursement for items purchased).
Once your completed application form has been processed, we will contact you if we feel your skills would be a good fit for NDAS to arrange an informal interview.
If you are successful, we will contact you to arrange your induction. Please note that the compulsory induction will require several days of training - please contact us for more details.
This role outline is binding in honour only and is not intended to be legally binding.
The client requests no contact from agencies or media sales.

WorldShare is a global Christian mission and development charity that is over 80 years old and based in Doncaster. We are currently recruiting for two new trustees to join the board from ethnically diverse backgrounds, in order to represent more accurately those we serve.
At this time we particularly need someone with an accountancy / financial background to join our Finance sub-committee.
The client requests no contact from agencies or media sales.
What does a Trustee look like?
Look in the mirror!
Right now, less than 3% of charity Trustees are under 30, 8% are people of colour and 36% are women. We are looking for people from across the UK and are keen to recruit trustees from all nations in the UK.
We value the many skills and experiences that you can bring to the Marine Conservation Society. We are committed to a Board culture that enables everyone to be their authentic selves and to enjoy the Trustee experience.
We believe that becoming a Trustee with us will be a rewarding journey for you – we want you to share your experience, your fresh perspectives, and we will listen to your views.
It’s a critical time for our ocean. There is not a moment to waste. Our goal is to recover the health of our ocean so it can help with healing our climate; to make seas protected in law to be protected in practice; and to stop the tide of plastic that’s getting into our waters.
Our Board needs people with a range of backgrounds, life stages, experiences, and skills who come together as a team to offer challenge and energy to one another, and to boost our ability to deliver for our ocean.
By joining as a Trustee, you will help navigate us through the risks and opportunities that we meet.
We want our organisation and Board to be reflective of our society. We recognise that we should all have the opportunity to take responsibility to protect our ocean for the future, so we are particularly interested in applications from groups which are typically under-represented on Boards. You can read our Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Statement here.
Equity, Diversity and Inclusion are essential to achieving ocean recovery so everyone can expect to be treated with consideration and respect in an atmosphere without prejudice, discrimination, harassment or violence.
What we’re looking for
We’re looking for people to join our Board with expertise in one or more of the following areas:
-
Finance – you might be a qualified accountant and have a background in finance and audit so that you can provide vital skills to help the Board oversee our financial management. An understanding of charity accounts and regulations would absolutely be an advantage.
-
Marketing & Communications – we want to reach new audiences to ensure a diverse and inclusive approach, and we are aiming to do that at scale. You may have experience of providing strategic support for increasing our reach and visibility.
-
Marine Conservation - you might have environmental knowledge, ideally on the marine environment, with policy and/or practical experience of conservation. A network of contacts across the marine sector, particularly with business or government, would be an advantage.
What you can bring to our Board can be just as interesting as where you’ve been working. You do not need to have previous charity trustee experience, but you will need to be comfortable participating at a senior level with complex discussions and the need to be comfortable making pragmatic but key decisions.
Why join our board?
Being a Trustee can be a challenge, but it’s also a brilliant opportunity for you to develop your skills, work as part of a team that shapes the direction of our charity in making tangible changes for the future of our ocean and planet. If you’re passionate about what we do, then you’ll feel the same excitement we have in making those changes happen.
You don’t need to understand everything that we do or know the Latin names of fish, or in most cases, even to have experience of the charity sector. As a Trustee, you’ll develop your personal and professional knowledge, work on strategy and develop an approach to managing risk and broaden your influencing and negotiation skills in a new context.
You’ll also gain insight and knowledge from your fellow Trustees, with everyone’s skills being recognised and valued.
Trustees are volunteers, so the role is not paid but we will cover your costs for travelling and any overnight stays to attend meetings or events.
Application and selection process
We value the knowledge and experiences that you will bring to Marine Conservation Society, and they may have been developed in a range of ways, and by many routes.

Franchine Young Ireland
They are an emerging organic brand with a passion for reconnecting people with clean and plant based ingredients. They have a desire to create a brand that means well at every stage, protecting people, animals and our environment.
There is an ‘ugly’ truth inside the Beauty Industry that simply has to change. Single use plastics, toxic ingredients, greenwashing, animal cruelty and a complete disregard for people, animals and our planet for many years. Many people are unaware that most products may contain ingredients known as Endocrine Disruptors, (EDCs). Recent evidence suggests exposure to EDCs is associated with early onset menopause. Marketing messaging continues to focus on unrealistic images of beauty that have resulted in anxiety, low self-esteem, and low self-confidence in many women, as well as affecting the hormonal journey. It’s time to take a stand, to challenge the large corporations and to provide solutions and alternative options for conscious consumers.
Franchine Young Ireland is an emerging organic brand with a passion for pure ingredients, simplified skin care and a desire to protect people, animals and our environment.

Organic, plant based and cruelty free and they believe passionately in taking less from our earth, a minimalist approach to skincare. We believe in doing ‘no harm’ in the complete life cycle of our products – from Field to Face ® they have created a simplistic and effective skincare routine, Mother Nature’s Method®.
They are passionate about health and exposure to unnecessary chemicals and processes within the beauty industry. They seek to create innovative products that simplify, excel in caring for the skin without harming anyone or thing, including our earth, in the process. They look forward to meeting like minded volunteers that can bring skills and experience in all areas of the business to growing the brand.
