Youth Wellbeing Events Volunteer
With the stigma of domestic abuse, as well as the stigma of therapy, we are hoping to design something with this targeted age group (14-25) at the centre - that they will want to keep coming back to, invite others to, and talk to their friends about. We will be leaning into the trends of "self-care" as well as community care to aim to destigmatise therapy, promote healthy relationships, build their confidence, and cultivate a sense of connectedness with others.
Main tasks and responsibilities:
- Supporting activities targeted at 14-25 year olds, in a safe and inclusive space
- Activities include gaming, film club, arts and crafts, discussion and debates, sports and fitness, mindfulness, homework support and more
- You will sometimes be encouraging them to participate, other times just being a warm presence and listening ear, and able to adapt to what's needed
- Any concerns with attendees to be reported promptly to Free Your Mind staff present at events with you
Benefits to volunteer:
- Help the local community and be part of the growth of a safe and inclusive space that promotes self-care, community and destigmatising therapy
- Improve your own communication skills by interacting with various young people from different backgrounds and gaining confidence
What skills are needed:
No experience necessary, but the following would be helpful:
- Good people skills
- Confidence
- A passion for young people
- Well-organised, reliable, punctual and able to travel to and from Ilford central on a Wednesday, 3-7pm
- A creative mind, particular interests and skills to lead or support different activities
A current DBS on the Update service would be an advantage, or willing to have a DBS check done through Free Your Mind CIC.
These events will be once monthly, first Wednesday of the month 3pm - 7pm.
We’re a small grassroots non-profit focusing on tailored therapy for child victims of Domestic Abuse.
