Fundraising Volunteer Roles

Outside Edge Theatre Company are seeking new Trustees who share our passion about changing lives through the power of theatre.

We are looking to broaden our Board’s diversity of thought with creative and strategic thinkers, including the appointment of two new roles: Treasurer and Deputy Chair of the Board.

We’re particularly interested in the following experience: Fundraising, Charity Finance, Drug & Alcohol services, Participatory arts, Theatre making, EDI and CSR. The most important factor, however, is that you bring energy and commitment to the role and a willingness to devote the necessary time and effort.

TRUSTEES REQUIRED!

At TOP UK we know how distressing and overwhelming OCD and phobias can be. Nearly 40 years of experience tells us that both conditions have a hugely negative impact on people’s lives. Fear and anxiety are incredibly unpleasant emotions and to frequently experience these emotions on a large scale is traumatic and debilitating. No one deserves that.

At TOP UK we also know that OCD and phobias are poorly understood, under-funded and stigmatised despite affecting millions of people. OCD and phobia sufferers often tell us how misunderstanding of their conditions leaves them feeling isolated, alone and afraid to seek help. At TOP UK, we believe no one should feel alone in facing their fears 

It is an exciting but testing time at TOP UK and we have just launched an ambitious three-year strategy. While we are eager to embark on this new stage of development for our organisation it comes with an acknowledgment that we are working in particularly uncertain and stressful times and there is a greater need to grow our service than ever before. Demand for our service is at an all-time high and continues to grow, currently dramatically outstripping our capacity. Mental health services are at breaking point leaving those with OCD and Phobias often finding it impossible to find help and dealing with debilitating conditions alone.

Meeting this demand will be a challenge, but it is a challenge we are ready and willing to push for but in order to grow and build our organisation we are keen to evolve, enhance and diversify our Board of Trustees

The role is open to those from the public, private and voluntary sectors. You should be someone with a genuine interest in mental health and we are ideally looking for individuals with any of the following experience: Charity Governance; IT & Digital;Marketing, Communications and Brand; Fundraising: Diversity and Inclusion. 

TOP UK also particularly welcomes applications from black and minority ethnic candidates and candidates from the LGBTQ+ community as they are currently under represented in our organisation.

 All board meetings are virtual and take place every other month.

Our Trustees are a team of volunteers who use their diverse skills, experience, and perspectives to set the strategic direction of the charity and make sure it’s doing what it was set up to do in the best possible way. 

For families facing tough times, a holiday is a much-needed break from the day to day, as well as giving space and time to breathe, think differently. A holiday is essential for building wellbeing and hope for the future, especially when the present is challenging.

About you

You'll have the energy, integrity, passion, and skills to work with the Board of Trustees, our CEO and staff team, and our community, to drive forward a successful and dynamic future for our charity and the families we support.

We’re particularly looking to add the following professional skills and experiences to our team.

• Developing digital products, tools and/or services.
• Directly supporting children and/or families on an ongoing professional basis.
• Fundraising in a charity through voluntary donations or commercial income.

You don’t need to have been a Trustee before, but you do need to be willing to do some training to help you understand the role and the responsibilities that come with it.

We actively encourage applications from under-represented, marginalised and racialised groups, and those with lived experience of any of the barriers families face to having time away together. That’s things like mental or physical ill health, disability, domestic abuse, being a young carer or living on a low income.

We will make adjustments to our schedule and processes to ensure new trustees can be included and supported in the role.

Expenses

You won’t get paid for your time, but we’ll make sure you aren’t out of pocket by covering the cost of your travel to meetings, childcare or other care if you need it, and a range of other expenses you might have while doing the role. We’ll book and/or pay for these in advance if you prefer.

After the interviews we’ll contact anyone we’d like to join the Board with an offer subject to references and checks.

If you accept, we’ll take up your references, do a DBS check and confirm your eligibility to act as a Trustee. If that’s all ok, you’re in! We’ll introduce you to the rest of the Trustees and get started with your induction.

Formal appointment happens at the next Board meeting which is on Thursday 5th August.

Main role and purpose of position 

St George’s Hospital Charity is a registered charity and a company limited by guarantee. The Board are the trustees and directors of the charity. The trustees are responsible for the overall governance and strategic direction of the charity, in accordance with the terms of its constitution, legal and regulatory requirements and best practice.

Main duties and responsibilities

• Collectively oversee the strategic direction of the charity and work towards the achievement of the charity’s vision and mission
• Ensure that the charity complies with legal, regulatory, and fiduciary responsibilities, in accordance with the terms of its constitution 
• Identify potential development opportunities for the charity, and leverage relationships to facilitate this
• Protect the property, reputation and resources of the charity through ongoing identification, monitoring and management of risks
• Advocate for the charity’s commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion
• Encourage teamwork among Board members and create a strong, profitable and fulfilling working relationship with trustees and the Chief Executive
• Appoint and give support to the Chief Executive of the charity
• Act in the best interests of the charity at all times and to the benefit of present and future beneficiaries of the charity
• Make a positive contribution to the charity’s governance, in accordance with the Trustee Code of Conduct and the Board's Terms of Reference

Qualifications and experience

Fundraising & Trustee

Essential:

• A commitment to the mission, values, and ethos of the charity
• Knowledge of the voluntary sector
• Current or recent professional experience in major donor fundraising and/or strategic partnerships with companies or other organisations
• Passion for the cause and some form of local or regional community connection
• Able to demonstrate evidence of effective delivery working as part of a team 
• A strong personal commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion 
• Ability to lead through facilitating, enabling, and consensus-building
• Ability to challenge constructively and supportively
• Ability to operate strategically, noticing trends, opportunities, and risks

Communications and change management Trustee

• Current or recent professional experience in change management and/or 
• Experience of strategic and digital communications

Clinician/general practitioner

Essential:

• All of the above 
• Current or recent professional experience working in a hospital environment or in the community as a GP or nurse 

Vice-Chair

The Vice-Chair supports the Chair of Trustees in leading the board, ensuring that it governs the charity effectively, in service of the charity’s vision and mission. The Vice-Chair helps leads in an inclusive way, supporting the board to work together well, and providing support and challenge to the Chief Executive. The Vice-Chair is also an ambassador for the charity and may deputise for the Chair of Trustees as and when necessary.

Essential

• Experience of being a trustee
• A keen sense of strategic purpose 
• An inclusive leadership style: able to inspire and support everyone to participate on an equal footing
• The ability to listen and engage effectively. You are comfortable with challenge and debate and are able to encourage that in others whilst fostering a collaborative board environment 
• Advocate - be able and willing to champion St George’s Hospital Charity’ work through personal networks, social media, and other channels
• Be responsive and flexible, able to advise, support or help decision-making.
• In addition to the above, the Vice-Chair will have the responsibilities and qualities of all trustees

VOLUNTARY GRANT FUNDRAISER

Alex TLC is a trusted and experienced organisation offering support and information for all those affected by leukodystrophy. Leukodystrophies are rare genetic disorders that mainly affect the white matter of the central nervous system, (ie the brain or spinal cord). They affect people of all ages and backgrounds, most notably children. Leukodystrophies are usually degenerative, causing symptoms such as impaired mobility, vision, speech and hearing, incontinence, inability to swallow and loss of cognitive skills. In many cases, this sadly means a reduced or limited lifespan.

Established in 2004, we are recognised by the NHS and global stakeholders as the "go to" organisation for those affected by these devastating conditions in the UK.

Like many other small charities, we have grown organically from an informal support group to the recognised voice for leukodystrophy patients and their families. To fulfil our charitable objectives, we need to increase and sustain our grant income levels.

Could you spare a few hours a week to help us?

ABOUT THE ROLE

Working with our Trusts and Grants Fundraiser, we are looking for volunteers, preferably with experience of grant fundraising, to:

• research potential grant making trusts for relevance to our specific objectives
• send applications using existing templates
• update our systems with details of applications

This is a wonderful opportunity to develop your existing skills within a unique arena, learn about the difficulties facing those with rare disease, and give vital and tangible support to sufferers of leukodystrophy.

We need your help to give hope and support to people affected by leukodystrophy.

ABOUT YOU

Candidates should be able to demonstrate the following:

• an interest in Alex TLC and the work that we do
• basic understanding of the complexities of leukodystrophy
• excellent written skills
• excellent computer skills, particularly Microsoft Word and Excel
• excellent organisational and administrative skills
• access to a laptop/computer, internet and printing facilities
• a basic understanding of (or keen interest in) grant fundraising

This is a remote role with an ideal commitment of at least two hours per week.

The Iolanthe Midwifery Trust is a registered charity that aims to promote and improve the care of mothers, babies and families through awarding grants and fellowships in support of midwifery education, practice and research.  Our aim is to reach more midwives and student midwives with our awards programme and need to look to increase and diversity our fundraising streams.  

We need your fundraising skills, experiences and knowledge to help us drive this aim forward.  You will sit on the board alongside our midwife and lay trustees and head up our Fundraising sub committee that feeds into the full board.   You will work closely with our Executive Director

Taking the lead on the Board to oversee fundraising and to make sure it is carried out in legal, honest and accountable ways

We're especially interested in filling the roles of Chair and Treasurer too, as well as the Trustee role.

You will work with fellow interim Trustees to;

• Lead and actively participate in quarterly Trustee Meetings held in East or Central London during an agreed evening between 7-9pm and actively take part in discussions and decisions that benefit SUNSHINE and in supporting those who live social isolation, helping us foster connections, enhance wellbeing and transform lives.
• Provide strategic guidance and direction to SUNSHINE, helping us plan for our first 3 years as a charity.
• Support in the registration of SUNSHINE with the Charity Commission.
• Support in the registeration of SUNSHINE with HMRC for Gift Aid.
• Lead on the creation of a Business Plan and a 3 year Strategy for SUNSHINE.
• Lead on and contribute to the development and implementation of organisational policies and procedures.
• Lead on fundraising activities that generate much needed income, including grant writing.
• Support and advise the CEO and SLT, ensuring a good working and professional relationship.
• Manage relationships with stakeholders, including donors, partners, and community members.
• Ensure that SUNSHINE has the much needed resources and support it needs to carry out its much needed community work.
• Other Trustee duties relevant for a new start-up charity.

This is a really flexible role – you can choose what you’d like to get involved with:

·Face-to-face fundraising – organising or helping with fundraising events, running supermarket collections and fundraising stands, monitoring collection tins

·Online fundraising – setting up online appeals, increasing social media engagement to maximise funds raised

·Marketing – spreading the word about our fundraising activities, for example on social media and with the local press  

·Completing administration – processing donations, sorting and recording donated goods, completing Gift Aid paperwork

·Championing our work – getting involved with developing new fundraising ideas and increasing community engagement

We provide support and guidance from our National Cat Centre and through our regional and local volunteer groups and teams. Our fundraising volunteers use their passion for cats and people to raise the vital funds needed to help more cats and kittens in need. As a fundraising volunteer we want to support you to fundraise in whatever way suits you best – whether that’s organising a fundraising event, fundraising online, promoting fundraising activities on social media, completing administration or supporting the development of new fundraising ideas! Whatever your skill set, this could be the role for you!
