Job description

Keech Hospice Care provide free, specialist care for adults in Luton and south Bedfordshire, and children from Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and Milton Keynes, who have life-limiting and terminal illnesses.

We rely heavily on our retail shops and fundraisers to generate income. Why not join our fun and friendly team at our St Albans store and help us make a difference when it matters the most.

Role:

To support the Shop Manager in the smooth & efficient running of the shop and to carry out all responsibilities in accordance with the hospice Philosophy.  Volunteers may:

  • Greet all customers as they come into the shop.

  • To effectively display items presented for sale.

  • To assist customers and effect a sale.

  • To complete documentation in respect of donated items and money.

  • Help keep the shop clean and tidy.

  • Dust the bric a brac and clean the shelves.

  • Tidy clothing rail.

  • To act in accordance with Health and safety Regulations.

  • Adopt a clean/clear walk policy.

  • Promote the hospice lottery where applicable.

  • Help with the processing of gift Aid items and recruit new gift Aiders.

  • Be polite and courteous.

  • Any other duty that, from time to time may be required.

  • Ensure all Health & Safety rules are observed and be aware of their responsibility for their own and others safety.

Note: some volunteers may focus on working within the customer facing area whereas others may prefer to work within the sorting areas.  Please discuss your preferences with the Store Manager.

What skills will you need:

  • Good people skills.

  • Ability to handle money and work a till would be desirable.
