Job description

Our local groups provide services and support to make a difference for local people affected by MS. Our Group Coordinators use their local knowledge and leadership skills to organise and oversee a local group.

Group Coordinator

We’re the MS Society – a community of people living with MS, scientists, campaigners, listeners, organisers, ambassadors and fundraisers. Our volunteers are a key part of achieving our goals and their support is vital. Join us.

About this opportunity

We are looking to recruit a Group Coordinator for the Shetland Group. As a Group Coordinator you will be acting as an ambassador for the group, developing annual plans, leading the group’s activities and recruiting and supporting group volunteers.

As Group Coordinator you will volunteer closely with the Finance Volunteer to oversee the appropriate use of group funds, and attend relevant meetings where possible. There may also be opportunities to meet with other Group Coordinators, link with other organisations and for partnership work as appropriate.

The primary aim would be to grow the number of volunteers and develop the support volunteer programme to provide support and awareness in your area. If you would like the opportunity to build on the success of our current team, to look at new services and activities going forward that the group could offer and to extend our reach, then this could be the role for you.

You'll have access to a group handbook as well as a welcome and induction checklist which lists what resources are available to support you in your role.

Time commitments for this role may vary, we estimate about three hours per week but we are flexible to suit your availability. The role will involve attending a monthly team meeting, supporting activities and training courses as well as biannual Volunteer forums. Out of pocket expenses can be claimed in line with our expenses policy.

This is a great opportunity to gain experience within a large charity and develop your existing skills and learn new ones. We need you to get involved and help make positive changes to the lives of people affected by MS.

About you
You’ll have an interest in the MS Society and the work that we do, as well as the enthusiasm to represent both us and our values locally. You will understand the needs of people affected by MS in your area and be sympathetic to the needs and motivations of volunteers.

You’ll be able to coordinate and support a team of volunteers. So if you are looking for a longer term volunteer role, and you are an organised and experienced leader, or you're looking to develop management and leadership skills, this could be the role for you. You'd be a valuable resource for our friendly team. You must live in or near the Shetland area to carry out this role.

The MS Society is committed to promoting diversity. We can only offer roles to over 18s.
