Honorary Assistant Psychologist

The Helen Bamber Foundation is a busy charity supporting asylum seekers, refugees, victims of human trafficking and other human rights violations. Our specialist team of therapists, doctors and legal experts hold an international reputation for providing therapeutic care, medical consultation, legal protection and practical support.

We are looking for an honorary assistant psychologist to join our therapy team.

We need someone who:

·        Has completed a psychology (with GBR) or other related degree or is in the process of completion.

·        Has a keen interest in working in the area of mental health for asylum seekers,

       refugees and victims of trafficking.

·        Has direct experience working with people who have mental health problems.

·        Is looking to develop their clinical skills and expertise.

·        Has experience working with databases and using programs such as Excel/SPSS.

·        Has strong organisational skills.

·        Is available 1 day a week for at least 6 months (Monday-Thursday only).

This is a client-facing role and prospective applicants will need to be able to travel to our offices in London for face-to-face work.  Travel expenses to and from our offices will be reimbursed.

Your role would include:

·       Conducting initial assessments for people newly referred into our service to ascertain their legal, social, and psychological needs and to assess their suitability for our services;

·       Conducting structured care plan reviews with clients to monitor their progress over time;

·       Completing standardised measures with clients for research and therapeutic purposes;

·       Shadowing and working with clinical psychologists;

·       Completing casework with clients;

·       Attending regular clinical supervision;

·       Entering data and contributing to audits and reports which will help us to improve how we support our clients and secure funding for vital projects;

·       Assisting with preparation of materials for group/workshops we offer;

·       Based on experience and progression in the role, there may be opportunities for some individual therapeutic ‘stabilisation’ work with clients.

Please note that the successful candidates will be offered the role subject to suitable references and a DBS check. This role will require disclosure of both the adult and child barring lists. If appointed, you will be required to give your consent to HBF to receive regular updates on your criminal records status throughout your time volunteering with us.
