Chair of Trustees

Time commitment: circa 2 days per month
Unremunerated: Voluntary position (expenses only)

Jessie May is a Bristol-based charity, with a national reach providing nursing care at home for children and young people with life-threatening and life-limiting conditions who are not expected to live beyond the age of 19.
Their vision is that all children and young people with life-limiting or life-threatening conditions are supported to have the very best quality of life possible, and to choose to live, and to die, in their own homes with their families.
The Role: As Chair of Trustees, you will work closely with the CEO and board to provide strategic leadership, champion their values, and drive forward their mission. You will play a pivotal role in shaping their future, ensuring effective governance, and advocating for the charity’s work.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the board in achieving Jessie May’s mission and strategic objectives.
- Provide guidance and support to the CEO and Senior Leadership Team.
- Ensure effective governance and financial oversight.
- Act as a spokesperson and champion for Jessie May’s work.
- Support fundraising activities and events for families.
Essential Skills and Experience:
- Experience chairing meetings and operating at a senior strategic level.
- Strong strategic leadership and inclusive communication skills.
- Commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
- Ability to advocate for Jessie May’s work through personal networks and social media.
Desirable Skills:
- Skilled in collaborative advocacy and relationship-building
- Strategic clinical experience.
Term of Office: Trustees are appointed for a 3-year term, renewable for up to 9 years.
