Job description

We are the Ranger Cadets, a brand-new independent start-up non-profit uniformed youth work organisation. Our mission is to engage young people in their community in uniform, while equipping them with the essential life skills, tools, and opportunities they need to unlock their full potential.

We are a non-political and non-religious inclusive uniformed youth organisation that is open and welcoming to everyone regardless of their social background.

The Role: Inspiring the Next Generation

We are seeking dedicated, hard-working, passionate, and enthusiastic individuals to join our local unit teams as Cadet Unit Support Staff. This is a highly rewarding, uniformed volunteer role based in London, where you will directly support the Officer In Charge (Unit Lead) in running a weekly cadet unit.

Key Positions We Are Recruiting For

We are particularly interested in filling the following vital roles:

  • Staff Sergeant (Second In Charge): Providing key leadership and operational support to the Officer In Charge, stepping in to manage the unit when needed.

  • Instructors & Support Staff: Delivering engaging sessions and training to cadets, as well as assisting with the administrative and logistical running of the unit.

Your Mission: Delivering Impactful Training

Your primary focus will be on the young people in your unit. Key responsibilities include:

  • Instructing Cadets: Providing positive, fun, and engaging training sessions and activities that adhere to the Cadet Syllabus and help young people develop essential life skills.

  • Youth Development: Helping Cadets achieve a sense of achievement and belonging, allowing them to earn badges for their uniform (covering topics like Communication, First Aid, Drill, Mental Health Awareness, etc.).

  • Unit Operations: Assisting the Officer In Charge with the smooth running of the weekly cadet unit, including preparation, setup, administration, and maintaining discipline.

  • Retention: Helping to create a supportive and motivating environment that encourages young people to continue their journey with Ranger Cadets.

Time Commitment & Requirements

  • Unit Meetings: Cadet Units meet for 2 hours on a weekday evening, every week during term times, usually between the hours of 6-9 pm.

  • Training: Successful applicants will need to undertake induction and role-specific training (e.g., our Unit Support Training course, Safeguarding and First Aid).

  • Background Checks: This role is exempt from the provisions of the Rehabilitations Offenders Act.

You MUST be able to help make Ranger Cadets a huge success by being a positive role model and delivering high-quality training. We're looking for committed, creative, and driven volunteers to join us and help us create something special right here in London.
