Job description

LEAD THE MISSION. BUILD THE MOVEMENT. BECOME THE DEPUTY CHIEF RANGER

Chief Operating Officer • National Leadership Role • Uniformed Volunteer Role • Rank: Crown and Two Pips • England/Hybrid

Ranger Cadets is rising — a new uniformed youth organisation with a bold mission to equip young people with essential life skills, tools, and opportunities to become active citizens who make a positive contribution to society.

To bring this mission to life across England, we are seeking an exceptional leader to stand alongside the Chief Ranger and help build the organisation from the ground up.

This is a founding role. A national role. A legacy‑defining role.

THE ROLE: DEPUTY CHIEF RANGER (CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER)

As Deputy Chief Ranger, you will serve as the Chief Operating Officer of Ranger Cadets — responsible for turning vision into reality, strategy into action, and ambition into a national movement.

You will work directly with the Chief Ranger to:

  • Lead the setup, launch, and operational development of Ranger Cadets across England.

  • Build the organisational structure, systems, and processes that will support national growth.

  • Oversee the development of cadet units, volunteer teams, and area leadership.

  • Ensure high standards of safeguarding, training, and operational excellence.

  • Drive strategic planning, performance, and organisational readiness.

  • Support the creation of ceremonial identity, culture, and national traditions.

  • Lead national volunteer recruitment and development initiatives.

  • Represent Ranger Cadets at senior meetings, events, and public engagements.

  • Act as second‑in‑command, ensuring continuity, stability, and strong leadership.

Your leadership will shape the organisation’s future — not just today, but for generations.

WHY THIS ROLE MATTERS

Ranger Cadets is at the beginning of its journey. We are building a national youth movement rooted in confidence, resilience, service, and pride.

But no movement grows without strong, steady, visionary leadership.

The Deputy Chief Ranger ensures:

  • The organisation launches with clarity, structure, and purpose.

  • Volunteers across England feel supported, trained, and empowered.

  • Cadet units open safely, consistently, and with dignity.

  • Standards remain high as the organisation expands.

  • The Chief Ranger’s vision is delivered with precision and heart.

  • Ranger Cadets becomes a trusted, respected national organisation.

Your leadership becomes part of the organisation’s DNA.

WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR

You don’t need previous cadet or uniformed experience — though it’s welcome. What matters is your ability to lead at scale.

We are seeking an individual who is:

  • A strategic thinker with strong operational leadership experience.

  • Skilled at building systems, structures, and teams.

  • Confident in managing complex projects and national initiatives.

  • Passionate about youth development and community impact.

  • Able to inspire, motivate, and support volunteers at all levels.

  • Calm, organised, and decisive under pressure.

  • Comfortable representing the organisation publicly.

  • Ready to uphold the values, standards, and ceremonial identity of Ranger Cadets.

If you have experience in operations, senior leadership, charity management, youth work, or organisational development, this role will feel deeply meaningful.

A CHANCE TO SHAPE A NATIONAL MOVEMENT

This is not just a volunteer role. It is a founding leadership position with national impact.

As Deputy Chief Ranger, you will help shape:

  • The national structure of Ranger Cadets.

  • The operational model and growth strategy.

  • The training and development of volunteers.

  • The standards and culture of the organisation.

  • The ceremonial identity and public presence.

  • The experience of thousands of young people across England.

You will be able to look back and say: “I helped build this movement from the very beginning.”

STEP FORWARD. LEAD WITH PURPOSE. BUILD THE FUTURE.

If you believe in the power of youth… If you want to help build a national organisation from the ground up… If you’re ready to lead with vision, discipline, and heart…

Then Ranger Cadets needs you.
