Nova New Opportunities is an educational charity based near Ladbroke Grove. As we ease out of London, we are looking for volunteers to help on day trips in and around London to support families in getting back to normality again.
Trips will include anything from horse riding through to the beach, farms and Kew Gardens. This is an opportunity to help families from marginalised communities while gaining experience of working with a small, friendly and supportive charity.
Volunteers will help the group leader to accompany groups of parents/guardians and their children on a variety of cultural/fun trips, helping to make them feel welcome.

This role will act to assist Advisors delivering support to people helping them improve skills for employment purposes. With the disruption of Covid-19, many households have been thrown into a continuum of health and financial challenges which have in some cases demotivated and reduced self-esteem. In the short-term our aim is to intensively support 30 RBKC individuals rediscover their potential, increase their confidence and assist them in reaching their potential through training, volunteering and longer-term secure meaningful paid employment.

A cancer diagnosis brings extra expense from day one. Every child or young person with a cancer diagnosis has a short-term disability and needs to apply for Disability Living Allowance (DLA) or Personal Independence Payments (PIP). The forms are long and complex and sometimes families need advice or support to ensure they include enough information to receive the correct level of financial support.
Your empathy, understanding and ability to identify the key information to enable families and young people to claim financial assistance will have a tremendous impact easing stress and allowing them to concentrate on supporting themselves physically and emotionally.
You will be an important part of the team and provide practical support to young people and families completing DLA and PIP forms which can seem lengthy and daunting to young people, and families. Each family’s needs are different, however support via benefits such as DLA and PIP are usually one of the first recommendations made to families seeking financial advice.
What you’ll be doing:
- Providing face to face to support to families of children and young people with a diagnosis of cancer
- Actively listening to families and asking relevant questions to enable them to identify specific support needs
- Supporting families to complete complex forms to enable them to claim DLA or PIP
- As a key part of the team recognise when to ask for other team members for advice or support
This will include:
- Looking at the DLA/PIP form with the family or young person
- Explaining the information Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) needs
- Coaching the family to include as much detail in their answers as necessary
The practical support required for this role will vary from taking the time to read through an application with a young person or family, who require a second opinion. Others may require questions to be re-phrased to simplify them and make them more applicable to their lived experience.
You will be providing guidance on how to answer the questions on the forms and useful information to include. It may occasionally include filling in the form with the family/young person when they are not able to complete it themselves
Booking slots will be flexible to meet the individual need (30 minutes up to 2 hours)
There is scope and opportunity in this role for development into supporting families or young people with appeals.

Chronically Marvellous is growing quickly, and we need confident, empathetic group leaders to host support sessions for our service users. We now have more individuals who need our help and support, so we'd like to offer more online sessions.

Leading support sessions: For many of our service users, our weekly support sessions are a lifeline, as well as an opportunity to socialise, speak any worries they have, and generally have a safe space to talk freely about their illness. Safeguarding: Our sessions will mostly be a way to let our service users come together, but there may be times that you notice something not quite right. Our teams offer support to those affected by domestic and sexual violence in their community. Our teams supply information, advocacy and specialist services to increase service users’ safety and meet a range of needs – these can include ongoing safety concerns, emotional or housing support, reporting to the police, legal options and support through court, help around child contact, benefits and financial advice. As well as providing direct assistance, we also work to build capacity and develop expertise amongst professionals and agencies.
About the role
Islington SASS is a busy service, which receives many referrals every day. You will be supporting our duty team to process referrals and key admin work. If you are interested, you can also be trained to contact clients, making initial welcome or check in calls. You will be in the office in Camden one day a week on a Tuesday or Friday to support with this.

ABOUT THE ROLE
This is an exciting opportunity to join IRMO and be part of the Latin American Youth Forum (LAYF). LAYF is a youth-led group based at IRMO for migrant and refugee young people aged 13-19 where activities are offered in a trilingual space (Spanish, Portuguese and English). LAYF ensures that everyone can feel safe and supported to overcome barriers and find their feet in the UK. At LAYF young people can: ➔ Learn English through fun and engaging weekly ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) classes. ➔ Learn new skills and get inspired through weekly educational, art and theme-based workshops. ➔ Get support to access education, volunteer and employment opportunities through a targeted mentoring programme. ➔ Lead the LAYF Youth Steering Group, learn about leadership and inspire other Spanish and Portuguese-speaking young people. ➔ Explore London and its surrounding through cultural trips and residentials. The LAYF Volunteer Mentor will deliver a programme of 8-12 mentoring sessions focusing on the personal, educational and professional development of each mentee. They must be fluent in Spanish or Portuguese, and English and have availability to support young people on weekdays during out-of-school hours. The sessions can take place at IRMO or remotely as it’s most convenient for the mentee.
MAIN TASKS
● Plan and deliver a targeted mentoring programme suited to the needs of each mentee.
● Write accurate mentoring notes during/after each session and discuss progress at regular supervision meetings.
● Allocate some time to research on the best way to support the mentee and any resources that might be beneficial for the session and for them to work on.
● Carry out regular monitoring & evaluation tasks.
● Meet regularly with the Youth Worker & Mentor to check on the progress of mentees
WE ARE LOOKING FOR SOMEONE WHO IS/HAS:
● Fluent in English and Spanish, or English and Portuguese (essential).
● Some experience in mentoring young people in school or out-of-school setting.
● Aware of the issues facing migrants, especially children and young people, in the UK.
● A warm, friendly, patient and empathetic approach towards young people with complex needs.
● Good time management and organisational skills to be able to deliver regular mentoring sessions.
● Ability to set own work priorities, take initiative and work independently with the young people.
● Some knowledge of safeguarding and child protection in the UK.

As a METRO Youth Volunteer, you would be an integral member of the youth team in supporting the Lead and Support Workers in the delivery of the weekly groups. These are held in London boroughs and Medway, Kent. ABOUT THE ROLE
The role of the Volunteer Barber is an important one to the charity as part of our confidence-building and resettlement efforts.
The role will suit someone who is a trainee or qualified barber or hairdresser, who can commit to 6 hours per month at our Health and Wellbeing days across South West London.
The volunteer will be mindful of how much a new appearance can increase the self-esteem of someone who is experiencing homelessness or is being resettled by SPEAR. They will enjoy developing positive relationships with new people and will be willing to work outside of their own comfort zone providing haircuts at no charge to SPEAR clients.
LOCATION/S: Our Health and Wellbeing days are held across Richmond, Kingston, Wandsworth, Merton and Sutton Boroughs. We hold approximately one Health and Well-being day per month in one of the above locations.

We are looking for volunteers to join our street outreach team. We go out in Central London 3 evenings a week and give out hot drinks and food to people who are sleeping out. We see regular guests and have a chat, check they're ok and see if there's anything that we can bring them.
If you would like to join our experienced and friendly volunteer team, meet some lovely characters and help make someone's day a little better please get in touch, even if you can only come out once or twice a month.
