Chair of Trustees
Location: Remote with occasional travel to meetings and events
Remuneration: Voluntary
Time commitment: 1-2 days per month
Term: Initial 3-year term (renewable for maximum 2 terms)
A national charity dedicated to supporting individuals in the social care sector is seeking a new Chair of Trustees to lead its dynamic and mission-driven board. This is a confidential recruitment process at this stage – full organisational details will be shared with shortlisted applicants.
About the Organisation
This well-established and respected national charity provides vital support services, including financial grants, mental health resources, and advocacy for individuals. It operates with a small staff team, a wide network of partners and supporters, and a clear vision for change across the care sector.
About the Role
The Chair plays a key role in shaping the strategic direction of the charity and ensuring effective governance, while supporting the Chief Executive Officer. You’ll lead a committed board of trustees, represent the organisation externally, and ensure it remains focused on its charitable objectives.
Key responsibilities:
- Provide leadership and oversight to the Board of Trustees
- Chair bi-monthly board meetings and contribute to setting agendas
- Support and appraise the Chief Executive Officer
- Champion the organisation’s values and strategy
- Represent the charity in public settings and at sector events
- Ensure the organisation complies with charity governance best practices
- Assist with growing and developing the charity
- Support the board sub-committees
About You
We're looking for someone with:
- Strong leadership and facilitation skills
- Former chair experience
- Previous experience of committee or board-level work
- An understanding of good governance and charity board responsibilities
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and diplomacy skills
- A strong and extensive network in social care
- A passion for improving the lives of those working in and drawing on adult social care services
Desirable:
- Knowledge of the social care and an understanding of the challenges facing the care workforce today.
- Experience in the charity sector.
