Bring your professional skills and experiences to the LTE Group, one of the UK’s largest education providers, who seek to add further expertise to their UCEN Manchester Divisional Board and Audit & Risk Committee.
Salary: £3,000 p/a and 5-8 hours per month
Applications close at 9 a.m. Monday 10th June
Who we are.
LTE Group is a family of five education and training providers working together to help communities gain skills to improve their life chances and grow their earning potential. Across LTE Group, we transform lives through the power of education and training, delivering further education, higher education, apprenticeships, and professional development, and we work in prisons to help offenders turn their lives around.
We are one of the largest education providers in the UK, and our provision spans a wide and diverse portfolio of education and training. Given the scope and scale of our delivery, outstanding governance is vital if we are to continue delivering high-quality provision, which leads to excellent outcomes for our learners whilst remaining compliant.
About the role.
To ensure that our governance remains robust and that, as a group of non-executives, we are able to continue offering support, advice and scrutiny to our senior leaders, we are now seeking to appoint new members to one of our committees and one of our Divisional Boards.
Firstly, we seek to appoint a co-opted member to join the UCEN Manchester Board. This Divisional Board provides oversight of the operation of the higher education provision offered by UCEN Manchester on behalf of the LTE Group.
We also seek to add a new co-opted member to our Audit & Risk Committee, whose remit is organisation-wide and whose support and challenge are vital if we are to ensure that, as an organisation, we remain compliant and can manage and mitigate the risks that affect us.
Both the UCEN Manchester Divisional Board and the Audit & Risk Committee meet three times per year, and members of these committees are required to attend in person.
Who we are looking for.
Co-opted Members are expected to support the work of the LTE Group Board of Governors through their membership of a divisional board or a group committee. You will be expected to contribute your expertise, skills and knowledge to support the operation of the UCEN Manchester Divisional Board or the Audit & Risk Committee and ensure the work is done efficiently and effectively.

About the role.
Following the decision of our current Chair, the Solihull College & University CentreCorporation welcomes interest from candidates who have the time, passion, experience, and interest to become a Governor and our Chair Designate in summer 2024.
Initially joining as the named Chair Designate, with time to engage in an extended and supportive handover period through the 2024 autumn term, we look forward to welcoming the person appointed as Chair of Solihull College & University Centre from early 2025.
The Chair provides leadership to the Corporation and its members, working closely with the Principal & CEO and the Director of Corporate Governance, Risk & Compliance. Supported by two Vice Chairs, the Chair ensures Governors have oversight of organisational development and are made aware of risks affecting strategy, finance, staffing, student experience, or reputation, through receiving plans and reports from the Principal & CEO and her senior team.
The Corporation is comparable to a board of non-executive directors and is composed of members from the local community, stakeholders, students and staff members.
Actively involved in long-term visioning and approving the educational character of Solihull College & University Centre, the Chair ensures Governors’ diverse skills, areas of specialist knowledge, networks, and professional opinions are used for the advancement of the organisation and in the most appropriate way.
With up to 19 Members of the Corporation, plus two External Members, the Chair ensures professional engagement between the Corporation and both employees and learners, through both formal means (meetings) and informal opportunities (such as events and visits).
Governors help the organisation to maintain a long-term focus whilst working on its shorter-term goals and plans. The day-to-day management is very much the responsibility of the Principal & CEO, and the executive management team. The Corporation is advised by a Director of Corporate Governance, Risk & Compliance who is part of the senior leadership team.
There are seven meetings of the Corporation throughout the academic year (September through to July). In addition to this, there are additional meetings of the Search & Governance Committee, the Audit & Risk Committee, the Remuneration Committee, and the Financial Oversight Group. Opportunities for Governors to participate in visits and meetings with students are arranged throughout the year.
It is expected that – with preparation for meetings, regular contact with Governors and both the Principal & CEO and Director of Corporate Governance, Risk & Compliance, plus any ambassadorial duties and training – the person appointed should plan to spend up to five days per month fulfilling the duties of the Chair.
Who we are looking for.
To be successful in this non-executive Chair role, we believe it is important that the person appointed brings experience in strategic leadership. When considering the requirement to be the ‘critical friend’ for a chief executive of a complex £50m business of education and training, set across several campuses and operating across the West Midlands, having a Chair with skills and knowledge which supports the development of the Principal & CEO, the executive team, and the broader Corporation and its members, is important.
Ideally, our next Chair will be an experienced non-executive, and know from experience the difference between operational leadership, and strategic oversight and scrutiny. The application of this knowledge will be welcomed, so that we may continue to benefit from the mutual respect that exists between the non-executive and executive representatives at the College.
If the person appointed doesn’t have direct experience of being a non-executive director or board member, then we will expect them to be able to demonstrate their ability to chair well and know how to get the very best out of a talented and committed voluntary non-executive group.
More than experience, we need a Chair who is passionate about the work that we do to transform the lives of our learners and provide opportunities to help shape their futures. The further education sector is a wonderful and enriching part of our education sector and a place where anyone, with any background or starting point can come, learn, and progress.
We are very open to the background and sector experience of the next Chair. We recognise the many potential benefits of appointing someone with either public, private, or third-sector leadership experience.
Please click 'Apply via website’ to be redirected to the Peridot Partners website, where you can find full details of the candidate profile and register your interest to apply.

Role summary
In this role, you will be helping to ensure that much needed meals get to the right people, connecting cooks and diners in your local area, and assisting with collection and distribution.
If you’re eager to get involved in the Nourish Now Project but are not interested in cooking an extra portion of a meal, signing up as a Connector may be for you.
We’ll provide you with a cool bag, some spare containers and labels. Just leave these out on your doorstep on the agreed day, so people can leave their meals in the bag. You don’t even have to be in! Once you’ve got the meals, we’ll let you know where to drop them, or arrange for someone to collect the meals from you for distribution if you’re unable to deliver them.
We also offer the opportunity to help collect meals from cooks who are unable to deliver directly themselves and drop these to our diners- all within walking distance of you! If you’re interested in getting involved in any capacity, sign up to find out more and begin making a positive impact in your community today!
The Connector position enables you to connect with cooks and diners alike and to build relationships with those in your community. An integral part of our model is not only fighting food poverty, but also developing stronger community ties. A friendly face and a chat can be just as important to our diners as the meal itself.

In this role, you would be working on our primary project, Nourish Now, under which volunteer cooks make one extra portion of a meal per week, which is then distributed to people in urgent need of a nourishing meal and of social connection. So far, we have facilitated the provision of over 2,500 meals, using no transport, no extra kitchens, and no extra energy.
Conditions
- Volunteer hours: 1-3 hours per week - timings can be flexible to suit volunteers.
- Location: From your home. UK wide.
- Expenses: This is a community volunteering opportunity.
Responsibilities
- Assist with the collection and distribution of meals.
- Leave a cool bag out on your doorstep, so people can drop their meals within agreed hours one day a week.
- Our meal connectors often drop the meals at a local food hub, such as a soup kitchen, to be distributed. However, if this is a barrier to you getting involved, let us know and we can try to find someone who is able to collect the meals from you and distribute them.
- Support the smooth running of the program in your community.
- Ensure any issues and ideas for improvement are brought to the attention of team leaders.

Wells Cathedral deservedly has gained an enviable reputation for its lovingly maintained gothic architecture, world-class music, and its ministry. Underpinning the life, worship, and ministry of the Cathedral is a diverse organisation where a lot is achieved with modest resources. It oversees a diverse tapestry of activity:
- A world-class music foundation
- A works and estates department
- A team of virgers
- The Cathedral library and archives
- An education, learning, and outreach programme
- Finance, HR, and administrative functions
- Volunteer management
- Trading companies
About the role
The Chapter body is the custodian of the Cathedral and its precincts, and we are dedicated to the care and conservation of these wonderful assets, so they may enrich lives for centuries to come.
As a non-executive member of Chapter and trustee, your role will be critical to the leadership of the Cathedral.
As a member of Cathedral Chapter, the Chair of the Finance Committee will work strategically to support Chapter in ensuring good financial oversight and will work closely with the Chief Operating Officer and Chief Finance Officer to enable the effective financial management of the Cathedral. This will include developing a financial plan to align with any revised strategy, overseeing effective governance, budget planning, information management and reporting. In addition, this role has oversight of the Cathedral’s investment portfolio.
The Chapter is the Board of Trustees for the Cathedral, a registered charity, and has the ultimate responsibility for directing and overseeing its affairs – as a place of worship and a community of service, as a significant building and a heritage site of remarkable beauty, as a venue for events and as a globally recognised destination for pilgrims and visitors.
Members of Chapter come from a variety of backgrounds and seek to work collegially in their leadership and responsibilities as they take forward the ministry and mission of a Cathedral which has been servicing Wells and the County of Somerset for almost 850 years.
The objects of the Chapter are:
a) to advance the Christian religion in accordance with the faith and practice of the Church of England, in particular by furthering the mission of the Church of England;
b) to care for and conserve the fabric and structure of the Cathedral Church building;
c) to advance any other charitable purposes which are ancillary to the furtherance of the purpose referred to in sub-paragraph (a) or (b).
Who we are looking for
With considerable background in finance as either an executive leader or leader of a specialist finance function, the next Chair of the Finance Committee and Chapter Member will be committed to working with the other members of Chapter as they develop the strategy and plans to bring the mission and vision of the Cathedral to life.
They will understand the role of good governance and shared leadership in a complex organisation and will be able to contribute to the wider agenda of the Cathedral as well as lead on finance.
They will have wisdom and kindness in their leadership and enjoy motivating and developing the team around them. People from all areas of the organisation will find them approachable as they stretch thinking and share ideas.
They will be committed to learning and growing with other members of Chapter and personally as the Cathedral develops into its newly established charity status.
The ability to untangle complex figures and interpret them to others who may not be financially minded is key in this role. A strong financial background is essential, together with the ability to challenge and assimilate views to operate collegially whilst being mindful of the Cathedral environment and governance requirements.
Non-executive members of Chapter will be communicant members of the Church of England, or of a church with which it is in communion. Further information is set out in the Cathedrals Measure 2021 and from Rule 83(2) of the Church Representation Rules*. For any further clarification on these points, or should you have a query, please get in touch with Rebekah Abbott.
*83(2) In these Rules, ‘actual communicant’ means a person –
(a) who has received Communion according to the use of the Church of England or a Church in communion with it at least three times during the 12 months preceding the date of the person becoming a member of a body the eligibility for membership of which depends on a person being an actual communicant, and
(b) who either is confirmed or ready and desirous of being confirmed or is receiving Communion as referred to in paragraph 1(b) of Canon B 15A (communicant members of other Churches subscribing to doctrine of Holy Trinity).

Are you the new Chair-designate for Reading Community Learning Centre?
Do you have enthusiasm and skills to cooperatively govern and lead our charity that supports women learners?
You could be the Chair-designate of Reading Community Learning Centre, a charity serving the needs of local refugee, asylum-seeking and migrant women. We stand proudly for equality and women’s rights, and are looking for a woman Chair-designate to take on the role of leading our Board, supported by our outgoing Chair for a handover period of up to 12 months.
Although this is a voluntary position, the provisions of Schedule 9, Part 1, of the Equality Act 2010 effectively apply as they would for our employment of women-only staff.
About us:
Set up in 2007, we are a Charitable Company that helps often-marginalised women to achieve their individual potential, through helping them improve their English, build confidence, make friends, volunteer locally, gain qualifications or secure a job.
In the 2022-23 academic year, 420 women from 36 different countries attended classes at the Centre, and 874 women received information, advice and support, through our charitable spending of around £200k.
About the role
We’re looking for a woman to lead our Board, to work with other trustees and our Centre Manager to shape our future supporting and empowering women.
If you can think and lead strategically, and help us plan long-term, you have the primary skills needed to be our Chair-designate and eventual Chair. Support from our employees is always available, as they will be dealing with the day-to-day running of the organisation.
Experience of committee or similar work, an understanding of cooperative leadership and a strong focus to shape the forward-looking Board, are what we are looking for. You don’t necessarily need prior experience of charity trusteeship, as induction will be provided, plus specialist guidance as a new trustee, including access to external training.
This is a high-profile appointment, with strong commitment to the future of Reading Community Learning Centre an essential quality, and having a good understanding of the value for the women we help. Trustees make the top-level decisions for our charity: our Board includes women with understanding, skills and experience of our support, and we require new trustees to have empathy with our cause.
We are a charity, not a business, but we apply business principles to governing our organisation. We encourage women from all backgrounds to apply, particularly Black, Asian and minority ethnic women, and those who have previous experience of engaging and working collaboratively with our beneficiaries.
The Board meets online every six weeks, and we ask you for up to sixteen hours per month; this includes all meetings, correspondence, communication, etc.
How to apply
This high-profile appointment is being managed for us by inVOLve Community Services, a charity-support organisation, who offer an informal no-obligation discussion by phone or video. A detailed Role Description and Skills Specification can be made available to you by request before that discussion.
Trustee appointments are subject to satisfactory references and satisfactory completion of an Enhanced DBS check.
Your CV and supporting statement will be read by our current Chair and trustees; an informal discussion followed by a more formal interview can be offered as soon as mutually convenient.
