What does Plateful Cafe do?

• Helps those living under refugee status in Lewisham and the surrounding area to find jobs in the food and hospitality industry.
• Encourage local refugees to stay connected to their own cultures by making and selling food from their home countries.

What will I be doing?

• Developing a logo for our charity.
• Working on our charity's brand: choosing an appropriate colour scheme, creating sample post templates, etc.
• Working with the rest of the Marketing Team to apply the brand to posters, flyers, product labels and more.

Role Requirements:.

* Prior experience in graphic design

* Able to create interesting and engaging content.
* Good digital/IT skills.

* Good time management skills.

* Engaging and friendly.

* Good team player.

* Excellent communication skills and fluent in English.

* Ideally will be skilled at using a graphic design software such as Adobe Illustrator/Photoshop (or equivalent) and has access to their own software.

. * Lives in London with the ability to occasionally meet and visit us for events.

Commitment

• This is an ongoing role that requires a commitment of around 2 hours per week. The role is undertaken online, so it can be done from home and is flexible across the week. We will occasionally meet for socials to share ideas and get to know each other.

You could be a trustee for Artemis Studios, a Bracknell-based charity that’s now growing our Board, ready for the next stages of development.

 Artemis Studios Performing Arts Schools Limited is a Charity only Registered in March 2022, while our not-for-personal-profit organisation has been providing similar services in Bracknell since at least August 2014 and our roots go back locally to 2007. This, of course, means our charity Board of trustees is still growing, and needs new skills and abilities to achieve that growth.

The role and what we are looking for in a new trustee

Trustees are the people who make the top-level decisions for our charity. Our Board includes people with experience and skills in performing and creative arts, and we’d expect new trustees to have empathy with our cause and our beneficiaries. 

Interest in young people, mental health support, education would be beneficial, but potential applicants do not need in-depth understanding of, or involvement in, our operational cause.

If you have specific experience, skills or abilities in:

• Funding and fund-raising
• Strategic planning for our charity
• Legal responsibilities in a Charitable Company

Full induction to our organisation will be provided, plus specialist support as a new trustee including access to external training.

If you can think strategically and plan long-term, you have what our trustees primarily need; you’ll also need to work collectively with other Board members. Support from our paid employees is always available, under the leadership of our CEO, who works closely with the Board to develop and implement our strategic and operational plans.

We are a charity not a business, but we apply business principles to governing our organisation. We are looking for people from a variety of backgrounds to join our charity. We want to expand the diversity of our Board, in all meanings, and strongly welcome applications from people from less-represented groups. 

The focus of a trustee role is strategic, and trustees will not be expected to get involved in the organisation’s operations on a day-to-day basis; however, contact and liaison with other trustees and employees is expected.   

We ask for about six hours of your time per month, which includes all meetings, discussions, etc.  You will need access to digital communications, as much of our charity’s business is run that way.

Role Description

CARA (Centre for Action on Rape and Abuse) works with victims and survivors of sexual violence and child sexual abuse, providing independent, specialist support and promoting and representing their rights and needs. CARA works with adults of all genders, young people (aged 12-19) and children aged under 12 from across mid and north Essex.

Over the last 8 years, CARA has grown significantly. Our client numbers have more than quadrupled and we now offer a wide range of services to victims and survivors of all ages and genders. We currently have a team of 40 full and part-time staff and over 20 sessional counsellors.

CARA is interested in hearing from people who might like to join our Board. As a CARA Board member, you will have an opportunity to be actively involved in the running of a forward-thinking and fastdeveloping feminist charity. Our Board of trustees provide strategic direction and governance to CARA, supporting the management team and overseeing all aspects of our work. CARA’s Board of Trustees are also registered as our directors for the purposes of company law.

CARA trustees have the following statutory duties and responsibilities:

• To set and maintain vision, mission and values.

• To develop strategy.

• To establish and monitor policies.

• To set up employment procedures.

• To ensure compliance with CARA’s governing document (constitution).

• To ensure accountability.

• To ensure compliance with the law.

Our current Board have a wide range of skills, and we regularly conduct skills audits to ensure our Board has the expertise needed to ensure CARA’s effective governance. To enhance our existing Board of Trustees, we are particularly seeking applications from people with the following skills and experiences:

• Business acumen

• Income generation

• Knowledge of the Women’s Sector

• Property and premises management.

People from Black and minority ethnic groups are currently under-represented on CARA’s Board of Trustees, and we particularly welcome applications from people from these groups. Applications from survivors of sexual violence or child sexual abuse are always welcome.

All members of CARA’s Board of Trustees are required to make a minimum commitment to the organisation. This includes attendance at Trustees meetings, which are held every other month, starting at 7.30pm. Meetings are usually held on Zoom, but occasional travel to Colchester for face-to-face meetings is also required.

All trustee appointments will be conditional on an enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check, and satisfactory references.

HF Mencap supports people with learning disabilities, autism and developmental conditions. You will ensure high standards of governance and legal compliance but need not have previous experience as Company Secretary.

What will you be doing?

HF Mencap is the only disabilities charity in Hammersmith and Fulham that focuses solely on people with learning disabilities, autism, and other developmental conditions.

The Charity provides a wide range of service-user led activity, summarised in four projects: advocacy for families of young people with learning disabilities, a parent led forum for those with children and young people up to 25 with additional needs and learning disabilities, a youth development project for young adults, and a day service where the focus is on peer support and skills development through a range of inclusive activities.

As Company Secretary you will lead on maintaining high standards of governance and ensuring legal compliance.

As a Trustee you will help HF Mencap continue to provide the highest standards of professional, specialist support and care for the people who use our services and set a clear, ambitious direction for the charity’s future. The Trustees have overall responsibility for ensuring the charity is well-run and meets legal requirements, charitable objectives, and those of good governance. You will use your personal skills and experience to help the Board reach structured and sound decisions.

What are we looking for?

Somebody based in London with a corporate governance, legal or business background. It is desirable but not essential to have previous Trustee and/or Company Secretary experience as appropriate training and mentorship can be provided. You do need to be organised, methodical, and able to ensure that HF Mencap fulfils its obligations both as a charity and limited company.

We are also very keen to hear from you if you have lived experience of a learning disability and/or autism or are a parent or carer of someone who does. Alternatively, you may have direct experience of working with people who do.

Whatever your circumstances you feel strongly about HF Mencap's cause and want to combine your expertise and passion to create a better world for those it supports. You are willing to bring your skills and experience to the table to help shape HF Mencap’s future. You are enthusiastic, able to commit time and effort, and enjoy being part of a team.

The role is voluntary, with any necessary out of pocket expenses reimbursed. Appointment is for a three-year term with the opportunity to be re-appointed for a period of up to three years.

ACCOUNTABILITIES 

Service Delivery – Client support tasks:

• Provide remote support for clients who struggle with IT.
• Helping to build clients confidence and self-esteem with using popular digital technology.
• Monitoring Forward’s online peer support platforms to safeguard clients from inappropriate content
• Raising awareness of online services and the support available locally.
• Build a trusting and supportive relationship with clients.
• Listen to the clients concerns and work with them to overcome those. 

Forward Fuse:

Fuse is an online ‘learning and knowledge’ platform. It combines elements of social media with e-learning. Forward Trust uses it for clients to share peer support and receive news of events, activities and services.

• Supporting the Forward Fuse platform as a moderator outside of normal staff working hours – monitoring content and comments for breaking of the Ground Rules, and encouraging engagement.

Discord:

Discord is a digital messaging platform on which Forward clients can safely chat with others who share similar objectives around recovery and self-growth, sharing support and combatting isolation in the process.

• Supporting the Discord platform as a moderator outside of normal staff working hours – monitoring messages for breaking of the User Agreement

Additional tasks:

• Support with web coding (if you have relevant experience)
• Engage in support and supervision provided.
• To keep a good record of your work, including reporting verbally to their supervisor and completing relevant forms.

This may vary depending on your specific team and time commitment.

• Travel and lunch expenses will need to be pre-agreed with placement supervisor if travel is required.

Why volunteer with Brendoncare Clubs?

Brendoncare aims to improve the quality of life for those who are more isolated in our communities. Brendoncare operates social and activity clubs, community services and online clubs. They enable our members to develop relationship networks and each service aims to respond to the interests, needs, aspirations and choices of each individual.

Brendoncare Community Allotments is an ambitious project which aims to produce fantastic home grown delights, grown for the community by the community. All of our services are run by fantastic teams of volunteers and we’re currently looking for more people to get involved in your local area.

Who are you?

Brendoncare are looking for happy, enthusiastic individuals to help at our fantastic new community allotments. Ideally, you will be a team player, happy to get involved, and ready to make a difference! You might be green fingered or a total beginner, Brendoncare provides training and support throughout your volunteering.

What is required?

Volunteering at our community allotment will involve getting stuck in with some gardening, an average session might involve: assisting with preparing seedlings, looking after the plot (pruning, tidying, and watering), and safe light maintenance. We also host planning meetings which you will be encouraged to get involved in to help shape the direction of the allotment.

We ask for two satisfactory references and an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check from all our volunteers.

Help sort, steam, hang and display our donated stock and rotate the stock following the manager's guidelines. Dealing with customer purchases, confidently process the cash handling and accurate operation of the till.

Role Summary

We are looking for a new Chair of Trustees who will offer strategic and supportive leadership to our highly effective, collaborative and committed Board.  The Chair leads the board, ensuring that it governs the charity effectively, in service of the charity's vision and mission.  The Chair leads in an inclusive way, supporting the Board to work together well, and providing support and challenge to the Chief Executive.  The Chair is also an ambassador for the charity.

Chair role & responsibilities 

Provide strategic leadership to the charity and the Board, ensuring that Glass Door achieves its mission with the interests of Glass Door's guests at its centre.

Work collaboratively with the CEO, staff and volunteers to achieve our mission and optimise the relationship between the Board and Glass Doors's staff and volunteers.

Provide leadership within the Board, ensuring that it fulfills its responsibilities for the governance of the organisation and promoting governance among fellow Trustees, providing clarity around boundaries between governance, management and operations.

Plan and chair the bi-monthly board meetings and the AGM, with colleagues as appropriate and liaise with the CEO, Company Secretary and Governance Trustee with regard to setting up meetings, agenda items and annual report content.

Facilitate meetings ensuring all have equal involvement in discussions, clarifying any uncertainties, confirming decisions made and actions to be taken and ensuring effective time management of meetings whilst providing appropriate periods of discussion and reflection.

Act as a spokesperson and figurehead for Glass Door when required.

Support Glass Door functions and events eg attendance at supporter events.

Support the Head of Fundraising & Major Donors with the cultivation of high-level donors, occassionally attending meetings where value can be added.

Represent the Board at staff Town Hall meetings.

Support the team liaising with partner churches and statutory authorities as required and be the public face of Glass Door in the local community.

Liaise with the CEO and he Board to keep an overview of the charity's affairs.

Provide supervision and support to the CEO as necessary in addition to planned monthly/bi-monthly 'catch up' meetings and, with the People Trustee, lead the CEO's annual performance review.

To act as final stage adjudicator for disciplinary and grievance procedures if required.

What we are looking for

Experience of being a Trustee, ideally in the third sector, and an understanding of the legal responsibilities and liabilities of a Trustee/Director.

A keen sense of strategic purpose.

Strong leadership skills, able to foster and promote a collaborative team environment and an inclusive and collaborative leadership style; able to inspire and support everyone to participate on an equal footing.

An ability to facilitate, mediate, influence and respect the confidences of colleagues.  The ability to listen and engage effectively.  You are comfortable with challenge and debate and are able to encourage that in others whilst fostering a collaborative board environment.

Excellent presentation and communication skills.

Advocate and ambassador - possess gravitas to lead the organisation and be able and willing to champion Glass Door.

Demonstrate a strong and visible passion and commitment to Glass Door's guests and ensure that the interests of our guests drive the decisions of the Board.

A strong personal commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion.

A willingness to devote necessary time and effort to your duties as Chair and be available and responsive (e.g. when things sometimes 'come up' that require the Chair to advise, support or give consent to).

Our amazing team of volunteers help us run over 100 shops across England and Wales.

Every donated item that you sort, prepare and sell helps to raise vital funds to support us in our mission to make sure no one, no matter how complex their disabilities, is isolated, left out, or unable to fulfil their potential. Our shops are at the heart of local communities – sharing the work of Sense, and helping to secure support for our life changing work.

Volunteering in one of our Sense Shops will involve a variety of tasks that you can get involved with. These include:

• Welcoming and assisting customers, providing great customer service and a fantastic shopping experience
• Receiving donated goods from members of the public
• Processing sales and serving on the till
• Promoting Gift Aid and other Sense fundraising initiatives
• Acting as an ambassador for Sense; promoting the shop and Sense in your local community
• Supporting with the recruitment and training of new volunteers
• Following new health, safety and social distancing measures to ensure the safety of everyone

Interview dates: July 2024. While this role can be carried out remotely, please note that there will be one annual face-to-face meeting.

As a Digital Champion you will provide support to our clients who struggle with IT. You will need to understand the importance of digital literacy to our clients. There will be a ‘referral’ system from keyworkers and staff members who will identify clients in need of digital support. In addition, you will provide support to our online Forward Fuse platform and Kaizala (digital messaging app).

To be successful in this role you will have excellent communication skills, IT skills and a true passion and commitment to supporting vulnerable people to address their support needs and fulfill their full potential. The Forward Trust is committed to tackling ‘digital exclusion’ within our client base.

Accountabilites 

Service Delivery – Client support tasks

· Provide remote and/or in-person support for clients who struggle with IT.

· Helping to build clients confidence and self-esteem with using popular digital technology.

· Raising awareness of online services and the support available locally.

· Meeting clients within the community to enable them to access digital devices such as tables and PC’s.

· Build a trusting and supportive relationship with clients.

· Listen to the clients concerns and work with them to overcome those. 

Forward Fuse

Fuse is an online ‘learning and knowledge’ platform. It combines elements of social media with e-learning.

· Supporting the Forward Fuse platform as a moderator outside of normal staff working hours – monitoring content and comments for breaking of the Ground Rules, and encouraging engagement.

Kaizala

Forward successfully used the digital messaging app Kaizala (similar to WhatsApp) to help members of the Forward Connect service keep in touch with each other and share support while face-to-face meetings weren’t possible.

• Supporting Kaizala as a moderator outside of normal staff working hours – monitoring comments for breaking of the Ground Rules, and encouraging engagement.

Additional tasks

· Support with web coding (if you have relevant experience)

· Engage in support and supervision provided.

· To keep a good record of your work, including reporting verbally to their supervisor and completing relevant forms.

This may vary depending on your specific team and time commitment.

Expenses

· Travel expenses (within 20 miles of the service)

· Up to £6.50 lunch expenses.

· Any additional expenses will need to be pre-agreed with placement supervisor.

Training & Induction 

Induction training will be provided to the volunteer and will include the following:

o E-Learning:  

- Data Protection/GDPR/PECR

- Safeguarding – Knowledge

- Health & Safety – Knowledge

- Volunteer Induction – Organisational Awareness

o Digital Unite – available e-learning module and resources to help structure support sessions with clients.

· A full induction to your team including placement specific policies and procedures.

· Additional volunteer training will be discussed and offered according to the need of the volunteer in placement.

Qualities 

Below is a list of the qualities that we are looking for from volunteers:

· Must be over 18 years of age.

· Ability to use computers and IT equipment.

· Confident to pass on digital skills in a friendly and supportive manner.

· Content Moderator – ability to evaluate content in line with content and policies.

· Web coding (preferable) – specific information needed.

· To have the ability to engage effectively with the client group.

· To have good verbal and written communication skills.

· To have a clear understanding and maintain a high degree of confidentiality.

· To have a clear understanding of how to set and maintain boundaries.

· To be able to communicate and actively listen to client’s concerns.

· To be able to treat clients in a positive and non-judgemental manner.

· To be committed to own learning and development.
